- victorguttmann, on 11/19/2007, -0/+13This is a pretty old article (March '04). Anyone have anything more up to date on the subject?
- PunkRockRalph, on 11/19/2007, -1/+10most likely a snuke.
- leprix, on 11/19/2007, -2/+8I bet he has three PS3s.

- Majorkerina, on 11/19/2007, -0/+5Sorta-Update Here. Looks like it will go the way of "Cold Fusion"
http://www.fourmilab.ch/fourmilog/archives/Monthly ... - danconia, on 11/19/2007, -0/+5I'm with you on that but I looked it up and apparently there are also "nuclear isomers" and that's what they're referring to here.
Your memory of chemistry is fairly impressive though. - LaueOfficer, on 11/19/2007, -0/+5"Boom, maybe."
- P5ycHo, on 11/19/2007, -0/+5That would be when the US reaches the religion levels of Sweden.
- piesforyou, on 11/19/2007, -0/+4I agree - the article starts of interesting and then you realise your scrollbar has only moved about a millimetre. It needs an abstract.
- TrueTechieGirl, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5Yep, funny (or scary): '"I guess I don't feel anything. At some point, I'll retire and go play golf," he said with a smile.'
- apolloae, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5If this weren't a serious post I'd make an inane joke regarding small packages.
- Encablossa, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5It's true, that article is frightenly long!
- drivin98, on 11/19/2007, -1/+5Because what the world really really needs right now is another bomb. >_
- poidh, on 11/19/2007, -2/+5Cliff notes?
- SiNN4R, on 11/19/2007, -4/+7Do you trust our government with this? I don't.
- whalesalad, on 11/19/2007, -4/+7That's what she said.
- FortyCaliber, on 11/19/2007, -1/+4Does anyone find it intriguing that the entrance symbol is a lower-case lambda?
"Dr. Gordon... if you could please climb up..." - Micktion, on 11/19/2007, -0/+3No update required, in the article there are repeated comparisons of the science behind this bomb research to the famously debunked science of cold fusion. I think it is the story behind the funding of science that is interesting here, not the science itself.
The only reason why this research is still allive is that the scientists working on it are promising powerful new weapons will result from it. I think the dude at the end kind of admits this isn't going anywhere, I think he's just riding the research $$$ and looking forward to retiring with lots of money despite having failed as a scientist. - Micktion, on 11/19/2007, -1/+4Interesting (long) read, basically illustrates how you can make a lot of money out of bad science - just let the military believe you can make a new powerful weapon out of it, despite the entire scientific community saying it's rubbish you can still get millions of dollars out of the system. Then pretty soon it becomes main stream science as all the pigs come to the troff to get their share of the loot.
- danconia, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2I thought they said it was a gamma. Either way I've got my crowbar ready.
- everfalling, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2goatse.cx you mean.
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -1/+3Big Badda Boom
- stevedclarke, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Was I the only one a little disturbed at a 'nuclear hand-grenade'? How would you even use one? Run very fast?
- LaueOfficer, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2bastard
- oojamaflip2006, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2I wonder if I could sell them my elastic band of doom
- Tippis, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2γ, not λ
- innocentsinner, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2Nope. Third post in the thread.
- AQMessiah, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2It's funny how we've remained the same animals as 3000 years ago. War is still a normal part of life. Each country/tribe/state is still out their trying to kill each other for such primitive ideas. Does anyone else wonder when will war finally be looked upon as a past 'act of stupidity' or is this just a far-fetched dream? The said person would actually be seen as a psychotic lunatic instead of a scientist... Just some ramblings.
- Micktion, on 11/19/2007, -2/+4I think the only thing in danger here is your tax money.
- nphase, on 11/19/2007, -0/+2What's on the other side of a Nuke?
- jpfed, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2I thought isomers were molecules that shared the same ratios of atoms, but in different configurations? Maybe the word they were looking for was "isotope"?
- mos6507, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1It would come in handy for taking out Isfahan.
- jhul, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1http://www.fourmilab.ch/bombcalc/
- OwdenBowden, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I have a brand new Daughter (my first child) and everyday she leaves my wife and I something scary in that little package (many times over).....
- inactive, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2Dick in a box?
- HanSolo69, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I thought this was going to be another picture of the Firefox condom.
- bellapria, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I was thinking the same thing....This is from almost 4 years ago....not new news
- danconia, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2I was under the impression that things like this bomb are going just A TAD BIT OVERBOARD.
As if the nuclear weapons weren't the worst things to ever be invented now they wanna make some more freak-science stuff to control the masses with. Seriously we don't need this stuff to fight terrorists, in fact it just makes terrorists that much more effective if they get their hands on it. Bleh this sort of human endeavoring sickens me. - acidbass, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1We already have enough big bombs to destroy the whole world many times over.
With the old bombs i would just be blown into pieces, but with this new bomb, i would be blown into tiny pieces.
Makes no difference to me. - TheOther1, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Perhaps you should read this:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Everyone_s_Guide_to_By_P ...
Then you can submit your data to the FBI all by yourself. - blixco, on 11/19/2007, -1/+2There's a great book called "Imaginary Weapons" which chronicles very well the fallacy of the isomer bomb. There will never be an isomer weapon. The science is wrong, broken, imaginary. The guy who claims to have achieved the reaction is a crackpot.
- Micktion, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1cx is the old domain which seems to be just spam now... http:\goatse.cz has the pic we all use to see on a good portion of links posted in forums.
Personally I think I prefer seeing goatse to rick & roll... less psychologically disturbing. - Tyrghast, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1from the title i assume this was an article about babies.
- 5xSTUN, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1I didn't even read the date on the article. I'm reading along, and then they're talking about six years after 1998 as if it were today, and I'm like, "Uh, wait a second." Come on, the article is from more than three years ago! How does that get to the front?!
- Bologner, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1"Theres a snuke in her snitch?"
- munted44, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Old Old out of date article.
Its been mostly discredited, which given the promises of devastation is just as well. - Elohir, on 11/19/2007, -0/+1Mr. President, we must not allow a mineshaft gap!
- everfalling, on 11/19/2007, -2/+2thank you science! don't worry about the AIDS/cancer/common cold cure, i'm sure your neat fire cracker is gonna be awesome and completely worth humanities time and effort.
- stevetrojanman, on 11/19/2007, -0/+0Ha! I knew I was going to be Rick Roll'd but I did it anyway...dammit I need to trust my instincts more
