- aznbond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a great find. I remember in an intro archaeology course I took, the prof discussed surveying techniques and how grad students could pay money to look through satellite imagery. But with the advent of google earth, it seems like this kind of information is much more accessible to amateurs and enthusiasts.

- KinGvsKinG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1great find, konquest. don't listen to people, they just like to bitch.
- dubiousness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I feel bad for the poor guy that's going to get his farm ripped up because someone noticed "intriguing shadows" in picture of a place he's never been to while sitting at his computer in his underpants.
- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For those who were whining that I linked the story through my blog rather than the Nature piece, it's because I think I was able to put more in that post that was available on the Natre Website.
- sonks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2who cares wardragon, if it's news worthy what's the problem with posting to their blog then. Not like you're getting flooded with viruses, you just upset you can't do the same or something? TBH get over it, digg doesn't need people whining over every news post linked to a guys blog. Now if it's a fake story with nothing but advertisements on the blog then go ahead and bitch..
- kimuuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very cool and interesting find. I wonder if sometime in the future, this villa will be yet another tourist spot.
- lafingputz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a big LOL to the guy that said 'What's a villa?'

based on that he went through all that trouble? ok... - WarDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting, but why do they always link these stories through their blog.
- DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So is it possible for google to try to take partial credit for the discovery?
- j3ph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Too funny, not only is google cause political trouble with china, but it now is finding lost cities? Shoulda bought stock when they went public!
- thatsiebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet aliens did it...

Google Earth is the greatest. - Ravi_Mishra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great find, google earth really seems rocking.
- piesforyou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think he gets those rights for the discovery anyway. But I guess it depends what the laws are in that country.
dugg. - hazri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would have kept my mouth shut and dig for treasures/ancient coins.
Even ancient vases would be worth something - fixit2new, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0treelovinhippie:

Ancient colosseum?"
Looks cool, but would be better if you had the SAME SPOT!!!! - HardHatMack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for the direct link
- FarcicalFart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0'Voila is a french word and means "that's it"'
I was waiting for someone to say that. At least somebody knows their french. - srikanthp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here's the translation to the Italian blog ...
http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.quellidellabassa.org%2F%3Fpage_id%3D9&langpair=it%7Cen&hl=en&safe=off&c2coff=1&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools
Or else just use Google Earth to go to Frassinara, Italy. Zoom in to find Google pointer. Scroll a bit North, and you should see the place. - sspooner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Had a quick zoom out of that area and... wallah: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=44.949280,10.329434&spn=0.005381,0.010131&t=k&hl=fr
Ancient colosseum?"
How come people say "wallah" ? Presumably it's either a laugh or they just don't know it's "Voila!" ... - allthewhile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF awesome.
- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think what will happen is that once the archaeologists publish a paper on thier find, they are going to include him as an author so that he gets at least partial credit.
- marbel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Voila is a french word and means "that's it"
- treelovinhippie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0lol, Voila is such a stupid spelling of the word! :D
Probably some Italian or Greek word... so I say ocker (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Ocker) it up a bit and change it to wallah!
