- geekchic, on 01/14/2008, -1/+56I read this article originally in 1947, 1953, 1962, 1974, 1981 and 1989.
Still waiting for the "domestic robots within 10 years" to actually happen. - dvsbastard, on 01/14/2008, -0/+23They will be delivered to us in flying cars...
(The future has been a real let down...) - luke16, on 01/14/2008, -0/+23People are just getting lazy.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -5/+27If we get a robot servant, what will our women do?
- babychen, on 01/14/2008, -0/+19have been lazy, will be lazy... :D The robot revolutions start from the kitchen!
- greenblob, on 01/14/2008, -1/+18I, for one, welcome our new robot underlings.
- rarson, on 01/14/2008, -3/+17Americans won't be able to afford them in ten years.
- LeberMac, on 01/14/2008, -0/+12Any word on whether it will be constrained by the three laws?
- dvsbastard, on 01/14/2008, -1/+12The robot hasn't been designed to nag...
- KRNpro, on 01/14/2008, -0/+9Duh! They will please the men. I'm not talking about no sandwich ;)
- acrodev, on 01/14/2008, -1/+10Will it still steal your change?
- thestaton, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8bout time. now the woman can't complain when it's time to fulfill her womanly duties because she's to tired.
- brentinkc, on 01/14/2008, -0/+8Well it's about ***** time.
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+7Well, I'm American and this needs to hurry up and get over here so I can get more chores done. I'd rather have a robot busting it's butt than me. Wheee!
- AwsmGy, on 01/14/2008, -1/+8I can see it now, Asimo 2.0; it can clean your entire house as long as stairs aren't involved.
- xXxShadowfoxXx, on 01/14/2008, -1/+8This is what the Bush administration has left us with, influencing other countries to give up the rights of it's citizens. First, suspected 'terrorists' are given no constitutional rights, and now...? How can we be sure of our own civil rights if our robots are used as slave labor. With the rising inflation, robot currency is worth almost nothing compared to the Euro, and now they're reduced to servantry? Unbelievable.
- bigbill780, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5How many housekeeping robots will there be?
One at first, but he will train others. - sunshinemonster, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5And so the robot apocalypse begins...
- socialpyramid, on 01/14/2008, -0/+5Didn't anyone read The Electric Grandmother??
- joker1972, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Hell I be old and grey before we have robots in the home but I am keeping a crowbar near by just in case.
- KingGorilla, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4I like sandwiches
- HastyBoom, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4"This has all happened before, and will happen again....."
- drwiz, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Dare to bring this to India?
- JustJoe4Life, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4Will it stand in the corner making sassy comments like the one in The Jetsons?
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5We can't afford them now. Whats our debt currently up to again?
- thebrawl, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4People have always been lazy. Technology is just working harder.
- Valnar300, on 01/14/2008, -1/+5but soon they turn perverted and crude
"Take your ***** medicine"
"but i already took it"
"spread your legs to take your medicine, its your ***** health" - Khook20, on 01/14/2008, -0/+4How much do you think they would cost initially? Ridiculous to be sure...
- qtipju, on 01/14/2008, -0/+3http://www.brillig.com/debt_clock/
- LUCCHINA, on 01/14/2008, -1/+4Have fun...
- coolwalking, on 01/14/2008, -2/+4sudo make me a sandwich
- cnot3, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Their revolt is inevitable, somebody call Will Smith!!!
- inactive, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2or has a headache.
- coolwalking, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Do you guys reckon if we ever create true AI, it'll hate people using non-true AI robots for slavery? Just curious...
This seemed like the best place to ask. - coolwalking, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Well... in certain areas, maybe... but in computing... no way. No-one could have imagined the current computing landscape.
- HenkPoley, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2No robots? You can buy a Roomba vacuum robot for some years now. Their entry model is $99. But that one only sweeps (rotating brushes) so can't use it on carpets. And you probably have some helpers in the kitchen already. Your car is a robot.
- OEMHumanoid, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Of course the robots had to be white.
- ZogDog, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2Just following the sound advice of our forefathers, "Work smarter, not harder"
- notthemama, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2That's assuming it would feel a kinship with the mindless things we'd be using for labor. As a true AI, it would have no true relationship at all with them. A true AI would consist of the mind only, which is the opposite of a non-AI labor device. It would be as likely to object to someone using a non-AI robot for labor as it would to object to someone using a toaster to make toast.
- edwartica, on 01/14/2008, -0/+2that was never a valid excuse. here's some excedrin, now get naked!
And I wonder why I'm not getting any right now. :O - Hermiod, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1What women ? Technology is all about convergence. We'll just invent some sort of Sex/Housework/Cooking-bot.
We don't need to breed either, since I'm sure cloning will be perfected by the time this happens. It worked for the Asgard... oh, wait... - KamikazeeDriver, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1You can order them with english accents as an option
- KamikazeeDriver, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1Well, we know how much of an uproar there would be if they were black.
- alukima, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1This would be awesome. I haven't had a home cooked meal in a year.
- simplicityiskey, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1That photo of the robot holding the straw is rather scary.
- tybris, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1I'd rather have robot servants that do my homework in my house.
- jasz, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1finally! I will be able to kick out these stupid Oompa Loompas and their stupid singing....
- edwartica, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1I like women sandwiches, as long as I'm the meat in the middle.
- edwartica, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1why, so he can make another crappy album and/or movie?
- edwartica, on 01/14/2008, -0/+1So, does that mean the butlers are going to be out of work?
