- DreKor, on 01/03/2008, -0/+25And here's a follow up for the skeptics out there. The skeptics who haven't seen this about a hundred times already.
http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/sharkkayak.as ... - terrorpin, on 01/03/2008, -3/+25I was amused by this comment on the page:
"Why does the article refer to it as an "animal”? It's a FISH! They should have shot the darn thing with a high powered rifle and killed it so that it could never harm another living creature again!"
Some people should be eaten by sharks. - Dokument, on 01/03/2008, -1/+17Kayak
- Scopitone, on 01/03/2008, -0/+15He's gonna need a bigger boat.
- mikehill33, on 01/03/2008, -0/+14If you look closely, you can see Fonzie in the background, waiting to jump it.
- widgetmaker, on 01/03/2008, -0/+12Could people please stop submitting Daily Mail articles it's the British version of Fox.
- thcobbs, on 01/03/2008, -3/+15Kayak in chainmail.........
That's a WONDERFUL IDEA! - garrettnb, on 01/03/2008, -2/+11hunter, you dumbass
- zwendkos, on 01/03/2008, -5/+14If I had a nickel for every time I've seen this pic on digg, I'd have approximately $249.55
- cosmicr, on 01/03/2008, -1/+9Sharks are animals. Just as lizards, kangaroos, polar bears, humans, butterflies and lobsters are.
- scoot2006, on 01/03/2008, -0/+8That person would have been eaten by the shark while trying to shoot it with a high powered rifle.
Everyone knows that sharks are only killed by getting an oxygen tank in the mouth and shooting the tank. Duh. - deathproof, on 01/03/2008, -0/+8Remember that board game Shark Attack? That game sucked.
- Dhalsim007, on 01/03/2008, -0/+6Amazing pic ,,, impressive. I hope the photographer gave the kayak some sort of heads-up.
- dbug, on 01/03/2008, -0/+6http://www.whitesharktrust.org/pages/mediaarticle/ ...
- DagYo, on 01/03/2008, -2/+7Esteban was eaten!
-Is he dead?
Esteban was eaten! Check the scanning monitor before it dives too deep!
-Eaten! He was swallowed whole?
No! Chewed! - darklights, on 01/03/2008, -1/+5Hey Darwin, we've got a winner!
- rotten777, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4there was this crazy loon who tried to convince people the same about bears... he's dead now. eaten by bears. maybe you've heard of him?
- tattertech, on 01/03/2008, -0/+4But the next picture had a chance to be even more memorable!
- SeaweedWater, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4I see what you did there.
So does my grandpa. - dotlizard, on 01/03/2008, -1/+4so they had a special on one of those educational type channels, about this guy who's discovered that sharks aren't so dangerous if you just pet them. that's right, pet them. if you do, it reminds them of those suckerfish that clean them, and it feels good so they won't eat you. so this isn't a scary pic at all, the big fella just wants to cuddle!
- ccL1, on 01/03/2008, -2/+5I assume the researcher wasn't thrashing and paddling like mad to get away, which is smart. In any case, if that were me, that yellow kayak wouldn't be yellow anymore. It'd be brown.
- DeepNarcosis, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2The funny thing about chainmail sharkdiving, is that the metal actually attracks the sharks electrochemical receptors and encourages them to bite you (sharks feel with their mouth). I've been diving with big sharks (tigers, bull, carribean reef) for years, and the only times I've been bit has been when I'm using chainmail - go figure.... see profile for pics...
- aclements, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2But he is not trying to go diving. He is intending to stay in the kayak. And kayaking in a wetsuit in that weather is a bad idea (heat exhaustion / stroke).
- Amric, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Yes, I have seen actual footage of divers using that chainmail protection when diving with sharks. They even provoked the sharks to attack them just to try it out. It ended with a bloody hand since the shark got hold of her (Valerie Taylor) glove and swallowed it. It was all caught on tape and was very interesting.
Chainmail only works on smaller sharks thought. Against a great white it would offer only minimal protection. - Synova, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2We're gonna need a bigger kayak.
- annabegonia, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2love the picture!
- poiuytrewq44, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Try flipping a 13 foot shark upside-down.
- audguy, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2nope, there are parts of the world with that blue of water.
- ssravp, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2So what if you've seen it before. There are always going to be people who didn't. Get over it. The next time you think about making that comment, just back away from your computer.
- louiedog, on 01/03/2008, -0/+2Too bad the Mythbusters episode where they tested shark color preference hadn't aired yet when this was taken. They found it plausible that sharks went for bright yellow bait before attacking other colors.
- tango1110, on 01/03/2008, -1/+3Family Guy:"I'm gonna eat you."
- ngmcs8203, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Nah... he probably just heard the shark say, "Where's the cream filling?"
- CrimsonBlur, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Yes. My grandma had it when we were kids... it did suck.
- DeepNarcosis, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Actually, it's called Tonic Immobility, my buddy Stuart Cove discovered this, if you do one of two things: 1.) Grab the shark by the nose and shake vigorously (I about ***** when he told me to do this) ..or 2.) for smaller sharks, if you flip them upsidedown they go into the same trancelike state and are docile....
- louiedog, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3Or tow a small child on a raft that can be cut loose. You don't have to be overpower, outrun, or kill a predator. You just have to not be the slowest prey.
- tbunreal, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3Wheres a oxygen tank and harpoon when you need it.
- Zeush8su, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3This a old pic and article. Wonder why it has a new date?
- sinrtb, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Then the article or at least website needs to say thats it is satire or from a previous post or something. It is being posted as new news not old photoshop with a new story.
- DeepNarcosis, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1The next time I do another Discovery Channel special about sharks, I'm so wearing my Diggnation shirt....
- britblogger, on 01/03/2008, -2/+3pic or it never hap...
*****. - OneLess, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1Yeah, thrash the paddles quickly in the water like a dying fish. Somehow I doubt this guy is quite that desperate for a Darwin Award.
- jhuebel, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Saffron Burrows-- Hot. Deep Blue Sea-- Not.
- richardiscool, on 01/03/2008, -1/+2The Sun and The Times are the News Corp. papers.
- baalzebub, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1RE:["Luckily for Trey, the 13ft-long shark was more inquisitive than hungry."]
i would tend to believe the shark was inquisitive alright, inquiring where you were a tasty meal or not, any animal will inspect a new potential food source before just chomping on it... - Tippis, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1Well yes, if they get large enough to do severe damage just through sheer jaw pressure, then you're pretty much screwed -- it works wonderfully against being cut up by sharp teeth, though.
- UrlorJkron, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1I thought it was a piss poor version of bbspot.
- darklights, on 01/03/2008, -0/+1The Daily Mail is the UK's equivalent of Fox News.
*edit* Bugger WidgetMaker beat me to that comment :S - bizchris, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1http://prometheus.med.utah.edu/~bwjones/C127634910 ...
- angryredplanet, on 01/04/2008, -0/+1The water off Africa's southern cape is actually that deep shade of blue. It's very inviting, then you remember that white pointers like it there too.
