- FakeHipster, on 04/20/2009, -6/+715This is one of those things I don't want to "digg" because its sad...
- garryw, on 04/20/2009, -8/+598This made me think, why not get rid of American idol and start a contest for America's next great physicist. I realize Hawking is British, but still seems like we need more physics heros and fewer Hollywood types on TV.
- drewt333, on 04/20/2009, -6/+327Not looking forward to the swimsuit competition.
- latenightlab, on 04/20/2009, -9/+307It's amazing he has lasted this long. It would be sad to see him go, but his contributions over the years have been second to none.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -5/+290get well you ***** genius
- brandonchicago, on 04/20/2009, -4/+253For a man confined to a wheelchair, he has left an indelible footprint on mankind.
Get well soon Prof. Hawking. - zanejamal, on 04/20/2009, -7/+189Hopefully he will recover. It must suck to be one of the greatest minds the world has known and yet be confined by such a horrific disease.
- goldfenix, on 04/20/2009, -10/+174Dear Professor Hawking,
I'll cross my singularities for your speedy recovery.
Signed,
Physics Geek - DrunkenDigger, on 04/20/2009, -13/+162Godspeed Mr. Hawking, we wish you well.
- sockpuppets, on 04/20/2009, -7/+151Kill yourself and further the cause.
- K4Lic0, on 04/20/2009, -5/+131Hope he can pull through this and get well soon. He's one of the greatest minds to ever live, in the same class with Einstein, DaVinci, Tesla, etc..
Also; if Hawking passes, who will control gravity and ward off black holes? - logic6, on 04/20/2009, -6/+130He's British?
His accent sounds like it's from Texas... Instruments. - Loonacy, on 04/20/2009, -5/+126If i bury as inaccurate will it make it actually inaccurate?
- Locnar, on 04/20/2009, -1/+105I have never read a book of his.. Never heard a lecture. But have the greatest respect for Prof Hawking. From what others have explained to me he is one of the greatest minds in the past 100 years.. I say this because to "act like" I understand his theories and great ideas would be an insult to the man..
- UselessTrivia, on 04/20/2009, -1/+103Dude is such a badass that he turned down an offer of Knighthood from the Queen of England. He disagreed with British science funding policy and dislikes titles. That takes balls. I doubt a whole lot of people ever turn down knighthood.
http://itnews.com.au/News/78853,stephen-hawking-tu ... - Samohtneas, on 04/20/2009, -4/+96I think lightspeed would be more appropriate.
- stoanhart, on 04/20/2009, -1/+90I saw a show in Hawkings once, and they had an interview with his wife. She said that when they got married, people would ask her why she was marrying someone who had a life expectancy of only a few years. She said that at the time everyone though they were going to die at any second in a nuclear holocaust anyways, so she didn't care. Several decades later, the holocaust never came and Dr. Hawkings is still alive.
- chriswastaken, on 10/27/2009, -4/+80I wish there were 3 buttons. Bury, Digg, Kill.
- serif69, on 04/20/2009, -10/+84Please don't write his obituary just yet. I hope and pray that he'll pull through.
- sgnpkd, on 04/20/2009, -2/+76i hope he will recover in this version of history
- thedcam, on 04/20/2009, -9/+70Is this kinda like right before Doctor Manhattan goes exploring the rest of the universe?
- ctnp, on 04/20/2009, -2/+59He should be ok. The Island's not done with him yet.
- Dustmuffins, on 04/20/2009, -0/+51When I think about digging a story, I think of it more of a "Other people need to see this" button rather than an "I like this" button.
- dafragsta, on 04/20/2009, -3/+53Oh boy. I seriously hope no one buries you, because you know what you said, you are just asking for it and you know it.
I personally hope MC Hawking is doing alright. - PizzaEagle, on 04/20/2009, -1/+45Proof that life isn't always fair.
- PixelMagic, on 04/20/2009, -2/+43Why is he being voted down for well wishes?
- Harabeck, on 04/20/2009, -3/+43I can't believe such ignorance. This has to be a troll, and one in very bad taste.
- SasquatchBill, on 04/20/2009, -1/+39The world has been fantastically lucky to have Professor Hawking around for so long. By all statistics of ALS he should have died 30+ years ago.
Folks, take this opportunity to look up ALS. It is yet another disease that ravages the people who are affected by it - not just the patient, but the family as well.
There is no getting better, there is no recovery, there is no known cause, and certainly no known cure. If you care about Hawking, take a little time to look up ALS, find out what it's about, and maybe even donate some time or money to the cause of finding a way to fight it. - Greengoo, on 04/20/2009, -0/+37I laughed.
- rikwakefield, on 04/20/2009, -1/+37He is the greatest mind of my lifetime. Get well soon Professor.
- zadadka, on 04/20/2009, -1/+34Well put.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -0/+33For now.
- ManHammer, on 04/20/2009, -2/+34I hope he turns the corner -- there's still a lot of universe to figure out.....
- benologist, on 04/20/2009, -5/+34Digg users are all for freedom..... until someone disagrees with them.
- antime1, on 04/20/2009, -1/+29Hey guys I think we have this. It's pretty new but give it a look. It's called the "Nobel Prize for Physics."
- cmallinson, on 04/20/2009, -0/+28Well said, but I'd encourage you to read "A Brief History of Time". It's written for non-physicists. You need to have an understanding of science, and specifically astronomy to get a lot out of it, but it's well worth the read either way. He writes with such passion.
- Cubedude04, on 04/20/2009, -2/+29He's contributed alot more than you ever will in your pathetic life.
- inactive, on 04/20/2009, -1/+28What? You shot yourself?
- DPDish12, on 04/20/2009, -0/+27When a man can accomplish what he has whilst suffering through paralyzing ALS, it really shows the true power of the human brain and the human spirit.
He is an inspiration to us all.
Get well soon Professor. - serif69, on 04/20/2009, -2/+28Apparently the figure of speech "hope and pray" is too religious for some people.
- morepowerr, on 04/20/2009, -5/+30To bad we can't to the robo- cop thing with him :(
- one1plus1one, on 04/20/2009, -3/+28Actually I am. There are some pretty hot scientists I have seen lately (including many hot Asian babe scientists from China.)
- wonkavsn, on 04/20/2009, -9/+34Because of Digg's ridiculous immaturity when it comes to other belief systems.
- reckage, on 04/20/2009, -0/+24They are called Hawking Holes. :P
- ICSU, on 04/20/2009, -2/+25well, that's the point
- FDisk, on 04/20/2009, -0/+22
Or can we? - SasquatchBill, on 04/20/2009, -0/+22The average life span of someone when they're diagnosed with ALS is under 5 years. 15% (I think) live longer than 10. Hawking's living with it for nearly 40 years is unheard of.
My dad died of it after 1.5 years. The fact that Hawking has the same disease as my dad did blows my mind - delrin500, on 04/20/2009, -1/+21Yet you still do not contribute anything positive to the world.
- raynar, on 04/20/2009, -1/+21SPOILER ALERT!
- Kronos6948, on 04/20/2009, -0/+20Neil DeGrasse Tyson in a banana hammock.
