- EMFK, on 06/27/2009, -14/+70Some global warmers tend to be absolute extremists. Yet, these are the same people that will turn right around and call other people extremists. Just put all the information out there and let people decide for themselves.
- wjappe, on 06/27/2009, -6/+60Ignoring contradictory evidence is not good science, it becomes political in scientific circles, who gets the money and fame, which may not be in the public interest since anything that affects this issue has wide reaching consequences and is not a minor effect on the country.
- Stevanoski, on 06/27/2009, -12/+56Group-think is mandatory to be a "believer"
- BillE3, on 06/27/2009, -5/+41It is not only 'not good' science, it stops being science. When someone begins to filter out any evidence that does not fit in their model that model is nothing more than propaganda.
- badqat, on 06/27/2009, -7/+41Conform to their religion or be ostracized!
- cran, on 06/28/2009, -11/+35The human-induced global warming theory has become a religion.
- BillE3, on 06/27/2009, -6/+27So true, they do act like religious zealots out on crusade.
- Peko, on 06/28/2009, -10/+28So I tried to google up Dr. Mitchell Taylor. Long comment follows...
I found numerous copypasta with the same general gist as the telegraph article in the link. "30 years of experience" comes up a lot. However - the content is regurgitated and seems to end up on 'right wing think tanky' kinda sites. (Example - Frontier Centre for Public Policy).
After some additional digging I came across a CBC podcast from the program "The Current' (http://www.cbc.ca/thecurrent/2006/200609/20060906. ... and it's generally a well reputed journalistic program. In the program Mitch Taylor seems to indicate that bear populations that he watches as a scientist for the Nunavut territory have gone up. However he also adds that bear population in other regions (Greenland, Berring Sea, Western Hudson Bay) are reported to be dropping. He theorizes that the Davis Straight is a different ecosystem than the other two noted populations and also adds that the increase in harp seals have directly benefited the growth of the population in the Davis Straight.
Throughout the interview he seems to agree that climate change could be negatively affecting polar bear populations in general but not specifically in the Davis Straight. Personally he (more or less correctly) seems to state that he's not a climatologist and he watches bear populations and making a connection is a bit tenuous.
Feel free to listen to the podcast and make up your own mind.
I'd say that the telegraph article is just spew for sensationalism - cherry picking quotes and distorting details to make a big headline. - mrogi, on 06/28/2009, -5/+22Global Warming is a hoax designed to make Al Gore a billionaire.
- ousthouse, on 06/28/2009, -1/+18He's not claiming to have a better understanding of global climate. He does however, have a good reason to be a part of the "Polar Bear Specialist Group" which is what he's being driven away from.
- ghatid, on 06/28/2009, -2/+18Just like when liberals call conservatives closed minded.
- inactive, on 06/27/2009, -10/+25Oh no, not a denier!
- CrudOMatic, on 06/28/2009, -10/+25Man-made Global Warming is a hoax, perpetrated to introduce carbon taxes. They finally found a way to tax you for breathing. Enjoy the U.N. raping our/your sovereignty for the sake of bankers that have taken over the governments of the world, believing that they are kings of us all.
The money changers are hated for a reason. Research the U.N. and it's founders, and observe the bankers raping America and the rest of the world of it's wealth. Police states and Carbon taxes are good, children. Fall in line. - scoottie, on 06/28/2009, -7/+20Because the Al Gore cultists are a joke
- rv361162, on 06/28/2009, -4/+16These same types of bastards (I shall here by call them the "Warmers") are juuuuuust the groups that bill 2445 will empower as our climate police.
Call and bitch to your congressman/woman if they voted for it and contact your senators and tell them to banish that ***** this week! - inactive, on 06/28/2009, -1/+13Next they'll be burning non believers at the stake or putting them on the rack until they recant.
- Brassbud, on 06/28/2009, -3/+13Further proof that "Science" is the new religion.
- foxtrot3, on 06/28/2009, -3/+12This really is amazing. 6 months ago a post like this would never have made it to the front page. In fact it probably wouldn't have made it to any page. The times they are a-changin'.
- aurorous, on 06/28/2009, -4/+12They don't but they do have a much better understanding of what kind of climate change threatens the worlds polar bear population. If the eco-nazi's are gonna scare everybody with commericials claiming all the polar bears are gonna die tomorrow unless we all go back to the dark ages, you'd think they might want to get actual facts to backup that claim.
Question: What do environmental scientists and Christian preachers have in common?
Answer: they both make their living by screaming "WHERE ALL GONNA DIE AND IT'S YOUR FAULT!!! Make a donation and I'll tell you about it." - inactive, on 06/28/2009, -0/+8False. Global warming is very real. It was invented by Al Gore to make him a billionaire.
- rugrat54, on 06/28/2009, -2/+9Dont forget cow flatulence.
As george carlin would put it, arrogant *****! - specialbuddy1, on 06/28/2009, -3/+9They must be buried because any alternative viewpoint is simply based on faith.
- Protonz, on 06/28/2009, -6/+12How is the 'green movement' any different from Scientology?
Why the double standard diggers? Think rationally. - anthropodeus, on 06/28/2009, -2/+8Inquisit him!
- superkendall, on 06/28/2009, -10/+15But it's not like that at all. There are thousands of scientists calling into question the idea of human caused global warming. Hell, even Greenpeace was against the Cap & Trade bill the house just passed!
- orangefly, on 06/28/2009, -2/+7that would be incorrect....
- ZzZzZzZzZZz, on 06/28/2009, -6/+11@maxvette
Because 'human caused global warming supporters' rolls off the tongue much better right?
lets not pretend HCGWS's don't make up names for those of us who don't think we should be sure that humans caused global warming. "deniers" etc etc - LtAction, on 06/28/2009, -7/+12Aaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha, "global warmists"!? I, too, support Global Warming.
Global & Warming 2012. - CrazyEddie041, on 06/28/2009, -6/+11An expert comes up with numbers that indicate that polar bear populations are at a 30-year high, and you're asking for evidence? Exactly what are you looking for in regards to polar bear population levels?
- specialbuddy1, on 06/28/2009, -2/+7Al Gore is a scientist?
- DavidNiven, on 06/28/2009, -4/+9Dissent will not be tolerated - Goracle, 2001
- ismhmr, on 06/28/2009, -0/+5Not only are they good swimmers, but they are so strong that they can pull a whale to shore, where they eat them.
- foxtrot3, on 06/28/2009, -1/+6@EMFK - Nah, that wold take all the fun out of it.
- ismhmr, on 06/28/2009, -1/+5False again! Al Gore became a billionaire for inventing Man-Bear-Pig!
- inactive, on 06/28/2009, -2/+6You are correct! You win the stuffed manbearpig bear!
- degausser23, on 06/28/2009, -4/+8Polar bears are good swimmers. Why was everyone so worried about them in the first place?
- pagit, on 06/28/2009, -0/+4Go to Churchill Manitoba and you will not see the big older bears but younger smaller bears - though numbers are the same.
The bears will adapt but other species will have a harder time - Protonz, on 06/28/2009, -1/+4That's the thing. The burden of proof is not on me to disprove man-made global warming (which they re-branded as global climate change).
We can't even effectively predict the weather more than a week out due to far too many variables. To say that not only does the government understand what causes the climate to change, but they know what will fix it, is completely absurd.
A problem like smog in LA is pretty obvious, but it stands to reason that when you subsidize something, you get more of it. This may seem a bit radical, but the government is subsidizing vehicles and urban sprawl through public roads. Market alternatives can not be explored, kind of hard to complete with 'free'. There's much more on this topic, way more than for a digg post.
An example of junk 'green' science is the ban on DDT:
http://www.eco-imperialism.com/content/article.php ...
"In fact, the worst thing anti-pesticide activists like Greenpeace even say today is: “some researchers think DDT could be inhibiting lactation and may contribute to lactation failure and low birth weights in babies.” Compare those far-fetched and minor risks to the reality of countless mothers and babies DYING from malaria."
A lot of mainstream views are irrational, but alternatives are just not discussed. A great podcast where the alternatives are explored is: http://freedomainradio.com/ - PhantomChicken, on 06/28/2009, -1/+4Doubly False! You fools! Don't you see? Al Gore invented Global Warming to become a billionaire so he could create Man-Bear-Pig! It's all so simple when you do the math...
- maxvette, on 06/28/2009, -0/+3I support real science, not biased opinions and name calling. from ALL sides.
- tkcom, on 06/28/2009, -3/+6This kind of stuff could've been on Penn & Teller's *****.
- Xwhy, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3"I didn't read the article thoroughly,"
so then shouldn't you go do that before coming up with a "but if he's" argument.
I mean, the link is right there.
We'll wait. - LouisCipher777, on 06/29/2009, -0/+3even the American Physical Society says you warmers are nuts.
http://www.aps.org/units/fps/newsletters/200807/mo ...
the problem is that there is a movement to silence and discredit any opposing position.
the climate has been changing for billions of years before man's earliest ancestor set foot on dry land. what the hell makes you think you can change it now? - xbrown, on 06/28/2009, -1/+3Mitch Taylor was my roommate at Pacific Tech. A really great guy...
- LouisCipher777, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2it's not even close to settled science.
- LouisCipher777, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2are you high? or did you just miss the part where he has studied the animals for 30 years?
polar bear populations are on the rise. - vbullinger, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2What should we call you? "Global Warmers" and "Global Warmists" don't really sound all that insulting. "Global Warming Deniers" and "wingnuts" sound a lot worse. Don't get cute like "realists" or "intelligent." Give me something that's fair. I'll call you that.
- LouisCipher777, on 06/29/2009, -0/+2there is no scientific majority, there is simply a movement to silence the opposition.
- maxvette, on 06/28/2009, -19/+21While I certainly object to the stifling of opposing views,
You really cant get a more biased article. Repeated use of the phrase "Global Warmers". In any case when a million people stand up and say one thing and one man stands up and says another, we should listen to him, but not put him on stage. - Cartman86, on 06/28/2009, -1/+3I don't know enough about global warming to give my opinion on it (maybe you will disregard this post for that), but I suspect the difference in peoples eyes is that scientology is completely nuts and has no evidence to support it. Hell I would say it's impossible for evidence to be brought up, because it's complete BS. Now if by green movement you mean ***** like lowering your carbon footprint then okay yeah that is BS. However, I personally find lowering emissions to fix smog in cities a good thing. If the consensus among scientists is that man made global warming is not occurring then okay we don't need to be obsessed with legislation.
Either way I think we have a group of people who are lumping in global warming with our depletion of fossil fuels and hatred of gas companies. We want innovations in car tech etc. and that could possibly be blinding many people from true science. But like I said I would like to see the evidence for or against global warming. I would love to know if this is like the creationists and Intelligent Design people and their attempts (I might say successful) at muddying the waters with their complete BS or if their is a legitimate reason to doubt global warming?
Link with me some info if you could. -
