Plasma Blade Sci-Fi Like Surgical Tool of the Future
gizmodo.com — Instead of a sharp metal edge, or even an electrosurgical cutter, the Plasmablade uses pulses of plasma generated around its tip to locally cut and cauterize flesh.

- wallish, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1I don't feel that's the right trombone for this situation. I need a WAP-WAH disappointing trombone rather than the sad trombone.
- copypastry, on 07/27/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't let a valley girl operate on me. At least not surgically.
edit: OH i see what you were trying to do. You did a bad job, and you should feel bad. - njdube, on 07/28/2008, -0/+1"Luke, I am your surgeon!"
There, fixed that for you.

- diggB, on 07/25/2008, -0/+7Would make a great kitchen tool! Imagine the beautiful decorative vegetables you could make ...
- eviljolly, on 07/26/2008, -0/+6And you don't even have to worry about your food bleeding!
- njdube, on 07/28/2008, -0/+2For a second I thought you where about to say "Imagine a Beowulf cluster of those".
- greenroom628, on 07/25/2008, -0/+27now if they can make this into an energy sword, that kid who made all his halo weapons will be one step closer to his dream.
- Andrwmorph, on 07/25/2008, -1/+21So.... when can I buy myself a plasma sword?
- eviljolly, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Depends on how much cash you have laying around.
Money talks...
- eviljolly, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Depends on how much cash you have laying around.
- wishninja, on 07/26/2008, -2/+2Curious, any idea of how it works? does it have like a pilot arc inside and then it blows the plasma out or what?
Anyway its better then lasers in my view it is kind of dangerous to have a person handling a laser manually. - Shogi, on 07/26/2008, -1/+9Wouldn't instant-cauterization prevent tissue from healing back together?
- Ultrace, on 07/26/2008, -2/+0Exactly what I was thinking. This might be handy for emergency situations where blood loss is a major factor, but I'm thinking it'll leave pretty noticeable scarring.
- Senious, on 07/26/2008, -1/+4I hope they fixed the lunging problem
- sock2828, on 07/26/2008, -1/+3It cauterizes while it cuts!
- blademanx, on 07/26/2008, -1/+8Holy crap, we're in the future.

- senatorpjt, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5They need to make it out of stainless steel or something, it looks like a kid's toy with those pastel colors.
- nuno86, on 07/26/2008, -0/+11It reminds me of that knife from the 'Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy', that would cut and toast bread at the same time.
- ignisatra, on 07/26/2008, -0/+8I just like how it looks like a kids toy.
- vptel, on 07/26/2008, -1/+8well it's no sonic screwdriver
- MeatyMcBeef, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5The fact that I got that tells me I will never be allowed to have sex ever again.
- kotn2012, on 07/26/2008, -1/+5Dude, I'd have sex with you just because you got it.
- dethmonkey, on 07/27/2008, -0/+0it could be... if the doctor or McGuyver got his hands on it.
- MeatyMcBeef, on 07/26/2008, -0/+5The fact that I got that tells me I will never be allowed to have sex ever again.

- Ryvenn, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1Wow. That's cool. I can see militaries leaping on this thing.
Clean, cauterised combat amputations could save a lot of lives.
Of course, couldn't really use it on a leg or anything, so you'd need a much bigger blade for that, with funding, we could see medics wielding plasma swords... for casualty treatment of course. - Mongoose, on 07/26/2008, -0/+3MY LIFE FOR AUIR.
- mrsammercer, on 07/26/2008, -0/+1But can it cut through an AT Field?
