- jizzimmy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28Do they... get you high?
- 0b501373, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I think the question is
are they magic? - Kanna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17No, but they get you one step closer to that fireflower you always wanted.
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Thats odd... Well glowing mushrooms aren't really anything new... They just usually don't start doing it until you eat them.
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12We'll see this picture a lot. Mainly as cover of psytrance compilations.
- teaBagger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I found a glowing mushroom in the Yarra Valley, out of Melbourne Australia about 25 years ago when I was about 15.... No one believed what i had found.... Cannot remember what I did with it...
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+11That's because you ate it!
- AeonTorpor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hm.. reminds me of those bio-lum. shrooms that are (were) so popular on Digital Blasphemy.
- Alphabet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The only evolutionary advantage I can see from this if it it attracts insects. I imagine it's hard to have a lot of wind deep in a forest, and therefore, it's harder for the mushroom spores to travel further. The insects can help by spreading it around more. Generating a faint light doesn't take a lot of energy, and the other method to attract insects(using smell) may take up too much resources.
- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Unfortunately, I think they are poisonous. Would be cool if psilocybe Cubensis glew in the dark.

I wouldn't mind having some of these around as night lights though. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6why dont you eat one and find out... let me know how they taste after
- FutureSandwhich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Someone has to get this information out to the shroomery.org people and see if they can cross-grow this with a strain that actually makes you trip.
- nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4
Must be near a nuclear power plant....
Besides, I am pretty sure I saw these on Star Trek.... I bet if you get to close they spray out some powder that will kill you. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wish I were bio-luminescent
- strikerK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks like a scene from Metroid Prime
- GnuTzu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Cool pic. I'd like to see this in 1600x1050 please not bad as a tiled desktop background).
"Of these only 33 are known to be bioluminescent"
"The work, Stevani says, has increased the number of glowers known since the 1970s by 30 percent." - lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'd like to see if they make me glow in the dark after eating them.... unless they're poisonous.
- antechinus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have glowing mushrooms in my backyard (Queensland). They are growing on a log. Every autumn they put on a show for a couple of weeks.
- techlyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least we know Infected Mushroom won't be on that compilation - perhaps some Ecliptic and other Brasilian artists.
- edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4No, you eat them and your batteries recharge!
- megaloid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Far out, man.
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've also seen glowing mushrooms near Tomah, Wisconsin.. relatively common there.
- protossss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yum Yum. Mushy Mushy! Psytrance FTW!!
- ivanjs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sweet-so that's where Oblivion got glowing mushrooms... I thought they were just a crutch to allow light in caves, who knew they really existed?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"why dont you eat one and find out... let me know how they taste after"
If they're anything like magic mushrooms: not very nice..or so I'm told at least. - theworldisround, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2dammit... I'm eating a sandwich and I just realized I forgot to put mushrooms on it.
- mccake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11UP mushroom from Super Mario Bros.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why the **** would this have evolved? How did glowing mushrooms outcompete their nonglowing brethren?
Real question... anyone got an actual thoughts on the subject? - NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Uh..sure, think whatever you want
- YES! - lardlung, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2So if I eat one, it'll recharge my batteries?
- johnvid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why did they evolve like this, perhaps because everyone is picking the non glowing ones, and these are screaming, pick me! pick me! But this photo looks like night time, so perhaps its so the nocturnal animals can see them, though it could be a warning!
- redrum781, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I don't get this joke...is it from a game?
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I ATE ONE AND IT RECHARGED MY BATTERIES!!!
- Ndiggnation, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Must be from the jellyfish-gene-injected fish escaping into the wide green pastures.
- bigbaddie, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2you ate it and you probably got high. that explains the memory loss.
- bigbaddie, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3That's cool. It would be cooler if it comes in other colors.
- cvrefugee, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Que ótimo!
