- ScottMcIntyre, on 11/19/2008, -3/+18Poor penguins- just cause they can't fly, they're always the last in the queue ;-(
- VentedWidemouth, on 11/19/2008, -5/+16awwwww, they look so cute. And delicious!
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+10Welcome to the Internet! May I be of assistance?
- Sherman901, on 11/20/2008, -0/+9been watching the matrix lately?
- ncc74656m, on 11/20/2008, -0/+8Mankind: Killing off rare and unknown species since 1500 AD.
- tattertech, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7No, because we have very little similarity to the structure of a virus (which some debate as to whether it technically counts as "living" or not).
- freezerburn666, on 11/20/2008, -0/+7it looks like you're trying to use a meme. would you like some help?
- DonJuanAussi, on 11/20/2008, -1/+7Please note, that it was probably the Moa Hunters or the Moriori who hunted them to extinction. Political Correctness has gone insane in New Zealand over the past 20 years. They have taken the history books and rewritten them to appease the minority aboriginal people, the Maori. Though the Maori elders who gave the Europeans their history when Europeans first arrived in New Zealand gave detailed and repeated descriptions of when they arrived, approximately a few hundred years earlier, and the way they killed, ate and raped the Moriori inhabitants they found living there. Not that the Moriori were the first, they were the Moa Hunters.
The Maori now receive hundreds of millions of dollars in Government handouts for being the "first" and the "downtrodden" people, so there is a large industry protecting their claim to have been in New Zealand first. - Knowltey, on 11/20/2008, -0/+6Hello Mr Andersen....
- d3dm, on 11/20/2008, -0/+5Crikey! Now I know the answer to the age-old riddle...
"What's black & white and breaded all over?" - cynic573, on 11/20/2008, -1/+5You should probably see a doctor.
- iamghost, on 11/20/2008, -0/+4Morgan Freeman should say their eulogy.
- WhiskeyLemur, on 06/30/2009, -0/+3Except that this happened 500 years ago.
- angusm, on 11/20/2008, -3/+6This is a double tragedy. Not only has this fascinating species been lost to science forever, but their extinction has also effectively scuppered my plans to launch a chain of Waitaha Fried Penguin restaurants.
- Knowltey, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3What about the penguin in my computer?
- Thuktun, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3BBQ
- TxRevolutionary, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3It will explode.
- rossiohead, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3Chill DonJuanAussi: asking for a source is a legitimate question, and even if it wasn't asked in a sincere spirit, answering it truthfully instead of bitterly would just serve to help anyone else who might be interested but didn't bother to ask.
- JimSartor, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3They really need to work on that title. An animal that went extinct 400 years ago is not "discovered too late" it was "killed too early". Next article: Tyrannosaurus Rex discovered too late.
- Cerialthriller, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3***** Puncher! Coming to a theater near you!
- lava, on 11/20/2008, -1/+4I don't know about you, but I love learning about funny 4 chan memes without having to go into 4chan.
- RaulMuadDib, on 11/20/2008, -0/+3I smell a new linux distro.
- elementop, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Hey, look! It's Digg-libs!
I accidentally_________the penguins.
verb - freezerburn666, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4who the hell hunts penguins, honestly?
- nlogik, on 11/20/2008, -3/+5NED! THEY'RE COMING RIGHT FOR US!
- KSUdesigner, on 11/20/2008, -1/+3"disappeared about 500 years ago"
I could see blaming it on McCain, but Bush wasn't around back then. - DirectTulip, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4No, no, they weren't supposed to look delicious .... :)
- metaknite, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2Are there tribute distros?
- PhantomRogue, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2"Rewriting history for political reasons is a crime."
The Ministry of Truth would like a word with you. - Ghorloch, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2Motel Hell?!
- IRoaChI, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2nah, just the moari's
- Conwaysb0718, on 11/21/2008, -0/+2lighten up, francis... i was genuinely curious where i could go to learn more about what you were talking about. no need to get all huffy about it.
- Conwaysb0718, on 11/20/2008, -2/+4cite your source pls.
- ajkrik, on 11/20/2008, -0/+2"Too Late" for what?
- ShadowofAres, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1And it has to do with hunting to extinction, not global warming.
- mal1964, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1The Penguin: Now hear this, now hear this. This is your Captain speaking. My fine pinioned pirates, we're approaching the tricky buoy! Sharpen your cutlasses! There may be skullduggery ahead!
- sek52, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2Penguins rule.
- securitymonkey, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Nature always wins.
We are just guests here. - bromac, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2New Zealand has a penchant for eating flightless birds. I guess that's why they're called Kiwis.
- d3dm, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I suppose it's our duty (burden) of being at the top of the food chain on this planet.
Besides, "Meat's meat and a man's gotta eat". (Digg++ for anyone that knows the movie this line is from) - perryge, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Sad feet.
- kiwiboyus, on 11/20/2008, -1/+2To pretend the Maori were not f**ked over by the English really disgusts me, and I am a white New Zealander. Did they get a better deal than say the Native American's and Australia's Aborigine, sure but they were still cheated out of a lot. The fact that i was not taught in school that there were two versions of the treaty that was signed, one in English and one in Maori that did not match exactly in their intentions also pisses me off. Some Kiwi's would like to pretend that we are no longer bound by the treaty when it means living up to what was promised the Maori, so they bitch about it like DonJuanAussi
- monoa, on 11/21/2008, -0/+1More like "since 100,000 BCE". We've been wiping out species since at least when we left Africa.
- Asianwaste, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I need clarification. That liberal tag was supposed to be a sarcasm right? No one can possibly be this stupid.
- RaulMuadDib, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1I have one in the oven now. @220 for 1:30. Mmm mmm
- JimSartor, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1Nature is a guest as well. Entropy is king.
- inactive, on 11/20/2008, -0/+1wtf.... ^
- DonJuanAussi, on 11/20/2008, -4/+4Just the half dozen history books on New Zealand history I read as a student. Do you remember the name of the third history book you ever read you *****? Oh, I suspect you will remember it when you get around to reading your second and third history books.
Not to mention I lived the 20 years in question, and I am from a Maori family who is benefiting from the massive payouts.... but some prices are too high to pay... the truth is one of them. Rewriting history for political reasons is a crime. -
