theoildrum.com — At some point, growth in resource utilization must collide with the fact that the world is finite. We have grown up thinking that the world is so large that limits will never be an issue. But now, we are starting to bump up against limits. So, what are the earth's limits? Are we reaching them? That's what this article talks about.

- codesuidae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Regarding the point that lenders will be unwilling to make new loans because the money that will be used to repay them will be worth less than the money they lent; this seems somewhat silly to me. Certainly significant deflation would make lending more complicated, but I can't see that lenders would not find a way to provide adjustable terms that would provide deflation-stable loans, especially if many lenders do drop out of the market. People will still want loans so it stands to reason that if anyone is still able to make loans they'll be able to come up with terms that make them a profit.
