- galvo, on 07/07/2008, -4/+9Oh no, so much stress among octopuses in captivity -_-
- subxero37, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7Octopi?
- Scrappy1850, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4these are obviously octopussies.
- Ragzouken, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6No, octopodes.
- netdroid9, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3Octopussies?
- djholybolt, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3You don't know the ***** they go through on a daily basis, man. I wen't to the Zoo the other day and saw one smoking a Cig. I was obviously impressed, but he sure looked like he was under some serious pressure.
- subxero37, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7Octopi?
- macweirdo42, on 07/07/2008, -3/+52Wait... So they want to reduce octopus stress, so they're giving them Rubik's cubes? Seems counterproductive.
- elrac, on 07/07/2008, -1/+57Misleading headline. The researchers are giving the octopuses toys to see if they favor one tentacle over the others.
- Mononuclear, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2I guess they are redoing the test? This test was already done awhile ago and they thought they had figured that they did prefer a side by positioning themselves with either their right eye or left eye more to the outside of their cave opening. It was later proven false.
- ARupp, on 07/07/2008, -3/+7The plural has to be octopi...I love plurals that end in i, especially syllabi.
- drgmdp, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2http://digg.com/general_sciences/Octopus_to_solve_ ...
- greenlikematt, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Why did the mushroom go to the party?
- greenlikematt, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1because he was a fungi.
- pr0t0, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I thought it was octopodes.
- thespi007, on 07/07/2008, -2/+17I bet it will squirt ink and run away ... well I did that in my exam anyway .
- justice7, on 07/08/2008, -8/+4Squid have ink, Octopi, do not.
- robdiggity, on 07/08/2008, -1/+12Did you consider octopi carrying fountain pens?
- PDubNYC, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4you couldn't be more wrong. But you did sound very authoritative while, in fact, being a total ass-hat.
http://encarta.msn.com/media_461532742/octopus_eje ... - scubaman5000, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Justice7, you sir are wrong. I've had Octopus squirt ink at me plenty of times.
- justice7, on 07/08/2008, -8/+4Squid have ink, Octopi, do not.
- badmephisto, on 07/07/2008, -1/+2Can it even tell if it is solved? Does it have eyes that can distinguish colors?
- metrognome, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6It'll probably just pull all the stickers off and put them in the right spots.
- moo2u2, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1technically it wouldn't really have to distinguish the colours, just the different shades (if it can't see in colour)
- tedrock, on 07/09/2008, -0/+1read the article. you don't even know what you are talking about.
- stienster, on 07/07/2008, -5/+5Octopus are extremely intelligent creatures, and they do indeed have eyes. I'd love to watch it solve a puzzle.
- Hypersapien, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4The question was whether they can distinguish color
- sab0tage, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4They can change their own colour to match their surroundings, so they must be able to recognise some colours otherwise their camouflage wouldn't be very effective.
- Hypersapien, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4The question was whether they can distinguish color
- trumpcard, on 07/08/2008, -4/+7This is lame.
- johnomaz, on 07/08/2008, -9/+5Seriously....Who cares about the stresslevels of octopusses. Whats next, counseling of tuna. Group sessions for lobsters. I mean, they are constantly being hunted for food. They gotta be stresses too.
- radiopayola, on 07/08/2008, -2/+4Octopi and some other mollusks like cuttlefish and squid are upper-echelon forms of life. They have mental capacities comparable to those of humans, apes, whales, dolphins, etc... If you're going to imprison them in a tank, you damn well better care.
- Scrappy1850, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8upper-echelon forms of life are great on a bed of rice dipped in soy sauce.
- radiopayola, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I can't argue with that... What can I say? I'm not perfect...
- MikeFallopian, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Stress-free animals are more tender and delicious.

- Bmarofsky, on 07/08/2008, -2/+30This just in: "Octopus dies while trying to digest toy tainted with lead"
- phorty40, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Thats funny because its true.
- forcedfx, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3*Made in CHINA*
- dudefather, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5One day you will have an octopus completing 8 copies of Professor Layton at once

- radiantstorm, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Misleading title. The cubes are among several "toys" given to the octopi.
- tedrock, on 07/08/2008, -0/+20Judging by the comments I see many people didn't even read the article.
- quamsta, on 07/08/2008, -2/+10Great. First an Octopus steals my wife and now they're teaching them to be human. What's next? Cigar smoking Octopi-stock traders? Welcome to the New World Order.
- Otnehs, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2I, for one, welcome our new Octopi-stock trading overlords.
- KowGawd, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Think how many more barrels of oil they could mark up at once...price hike x 8!
- Otnehs, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2I, for one, welcome our new Octopi-stock trading overlords.
- stephantabor, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8After reading the title and briefly the description I thought it was going to be an article from The Onion.
- Rudegar, on 07/08/2008, -6/+1bet then rock at realtime chess too
i stoped playing myself after the bishop collision incident - 1gunners4, on 07/08/2008, -0/+12After reading the title and the description, I was really surprised that this wasn't an Onion article.
- chrissku, on 07/08/2008, -0/+10I love calamari.
- f4nt0m4s, on 07/08/2008, -0/+11calamari is squid, but i still dugg you up anyway because of deliciousness
- PReitz, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1"I love calamari. "
I was going to say that.....
"calamari is squid"
But I knew someone would say that.
- ahjkl67435, on 07/08/2008, -2/+2been there done that
- Erythroxylum, on 07/08/2008, -4/+2Those suckers will really help in peeling the coloured stickers off and re-arranging them so it can say (octopuses can talk, right?) 'Here, I've done your stupid puzzle, now leave me alone, wretched human.'
- SolidBones, on 07/08/2008, -7/+1octipi
- Qays, on 07/08/2008, -6/+3*waits for someone to paste: It's a trap*
- stradf, on 07/08/2008, -2/+1Anyone else thought of Metal Gear solid 4? CUBING OCTOBUS! Always cubing!!!
- oneoverzero, on 07/08/2008, -2/+1Wouldn't the cubes internal mechanism (Really, just the screws, springs, and washers) rust?
I don't know about newer ones, but I have three, and they all have metal parts..- AlThor880, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1I have one of the new ones, a 3x3x3, and it has no metal parts. Each cublet has a corner (or side for the edges) that is attached to a piece that when they are all placed together form an internal sphere that allows them to move in the appropriate directions.

Or...you could quit f*cking with them and let them go....*rolls eyes* - blueberrry, on 07/08/2008, -6/+0I, for one, welcome our new Rubik Cube Solvers Octopus overlords.
- f4nt0m4s, on 07/08/2008, -3/+1I wonder how much these people get paid to make these observations.
"oh hey let's get funding to sit around and watch an octopus play with a rubik's cube while we smoke pot and eat Cheetos..."
cha-ching, money in the bank. makes me wonder why i'm wasting time learning stuff in college. valuable "scientific research" ftw! - drgmdp, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2anxious octopuses is a great name for a band
- who's playing?
- the anxious octopuses
- oh yeah.. i heard they suck live- burjzyntski, on 07/08/2008, -3/+0dugg for nofx reference.
buried for saying octopuses.
zero change.
- burjzyntski, on 07/08/2008, -3/+0dugg for nofx reference.
- xero69, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1"You don't want to suck that...it's the potty tentacle."
- Hase0, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1wtf rubiks cube?
- MikeSetera, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Are they teaching the octopi Petrus or Fridrich?
- Hypersapien, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6This has nothing to do with the octopus solving the Rubik's Cube. The octopus is just playing with it.
- Rudegar, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0the moment they start doing these
http://www.wickedprops.com/albums/userpics/10001/n ...
i'll worry - soulonfire928, on 07/08/2008, -1/+4How the hell do you tell if an octopus is anxious?
- Vodd9, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Take action. Join PAOS, the People Against Octopus Stress. Come help us to spread our message to the world that we won't stand for the mental mistreatment of octopi.
- Asvetic, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4What the hell is Anti-clockwise?!
- DerangedPenguin, on 07/08/2008, -2/+1I found it quiet simple to remove the stickers and stick them back on correctly in under 30 seconds, lets see an Octopus to that? hmmmm.
- pitchblack16, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1yup definitely gotta go with this one
- rajk0909, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Cool
- Unheilig, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0Thats pretty cool.
- TheKeithD, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1Looking at the headline and description, I can't tell what this is about. Is it about octopuses, by any chance?
- LilJimmyNordin, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4HAHAHAHHAHA, I love The Onion.
Wait, what? - robomoo, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Buried as inaccurate. There is no octopus based Rubik's Cube solving involved.
- kd1s, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I remember a couple years back someone had posted a video of an octopus figuring out how to get out of its tank, then crawl across the floor to another tank where a tasty aquatic treat was waiting. Then it'd crawl back to its tank, climb in and shut the lid.
The thing that triggered them to install a camera was the missing aquatic critters. - j0eb0nd7, on 07/08/2008, -1/+0I am totally against any octopus solving the rubix cube faster than me!
I wonder if they will figure out how to peel the stickers? - theblueguitar, on 07/08/2008, -1/+1More random tests to see if the rumor is true: Are people truly stupider than octopuses? The preliminary answer: Yes. Read this article and find out why.
