- maximilen, on 06/25/2009, -5/+38Whored-out HDR ruins the photograph...
P.S. What the hell's that in the foreground? A cliff ledge lined with orange-headed birds? - mazurkfsflip8, on 06/26/2009, -1/+16yeh nice pic. too bad its photoshopped to death.
- zxof, on 06/26/2009, -0/+9my own take:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/zxof/3022040280/sizes ... - cor315, on 06/26/2009, -2/+10Agreed, I hate HDR. It might look nice but it's not real. Basically it's photoshopped.
- Kronich, on 06/25/2009, -2/+9Ahhhhhh.... Home sweet home!! One day I will get back there..
- coheedcollapse, on 06/26/2009, -0/+6Yeah when the hell did National Geographic start doing crappy HDR? They're seriously the bastion of incredibly photojournalism and nature photography to the world and they have some clown ruining their rep with this crap?
Show me the original, dammit.
Edit: Ohhh...I get it. It's a photo contest open to the public. I'm cooling off a bit now. Man I was pretty pissed. I'll leave the original comment because I can't think of something worthwhile to put here in the short amount of time I have to edit left.
The winners, by the way, trump the hell out of this overedited crap: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/photo-contest/20 ... - IamNOTmrT, on 06/25/2009, -2/+8Dugg ..... I learned to surf there
- maximilen, on 06/25/2009, -0/+5You're right. BTW this is a much better picture: http://radio.weblogs.com/0128644/images/2004/28100 ...

- Bret and Jemaine - domfosnz, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3PS. the gannet colony stinks. The beach is awesome tho.
- askantik, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3New Zealand is pretty insane looking. LOTR FTW!
- RegularUser, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Surreal.
Dali would be jealous. - jawbreaker4fs, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3I miss pies, Watties tomato sauce and fish & chips terribly.
- rheaume, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3Much better, thanks
- rabidbob, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3 ... I miss ... Georgie Pie ... god that's embarrassing. But it's true.
I miss Murawai and Whatipu more though. - geoman2k, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3makes me want to puke rainbows
- crowbarred, on 06/26/2009, -0/+3I live 5 minutes away from that beach ... i think if i saw that .... i would run [very fast]
- Subcide, on 06/28/2009, -0/+2Not with the gannets though right?
- IamNOTmrT, on 06/25/2009, -0/+2Yes, they're called Gannets
- cheddaro, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Back in my day, photographs looked like what you saw.
It was a crazy time I tell you... - kiwiboyus, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Kumara chips from Tuatara on Ponsonby Rd, one day I will have you again!
- askantik, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2HDR can look really nice (and produce a more realistic image) IF it is used in moderation. Ideally, an appropriately "HDR-ed" image is just one where you go, "That looks nice." Not one where you can immediately tell without a doubt that it has been HDRed.
- agequodagis, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2What kind of sociopath would justify need to modify pictures of New Zealand like that? Especially if one is going to enter it into a photo contest. NZ is the most photogenic place I've ever seen.
- gdha, on 06/26/2009, -0/+2Beautiful. I'll have to visit some day.
- ziarczak, on 06/27/2009, -0/+2That's the reason I keep playing the lottery.
- truthseeker69, on 06/26/2009, -3/+4Gorgeous!
- taradaciuc, on 06/26/2009, -0/+1this is HDR?
- Theuderic, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2Dugg!! I had sex there.
- Kronich, on 06/25/2009, -0/+1There is a gannet colony there
- GreatDrok, on 06/27/2009, -0/+1Georgie Pie is long gone (McDs bought it and closed them down). Rumours of it reopening but nothing yet.
- coheedcollapse, on 06/26/2009, -1/+2It might be because I'm a whore for non-shopped photography, but whenever I see an overdone HDR (photomatix tonemapping...) I don't think "hey, that looks nice", I vomit in my mouth a bit.
It's such an ugly look and it usually takes out one of the most important parts of photography, shadow and light. Also the reality of it. If I want to see something that looks like a painting, I'll look at a damn painting. I want to see what was really there when I look at a photograph, not some weird neon saran wrapped version of it. - BDUBleOh7, on 06/28/2009, -0/+1I second the question, "What the hell is that in the foreground?"
- vivalanation734, on 06/26/2009, -3/+3buried for HDR
- cheddaro, on 06/26/2009, -1/+1Reminds me of the photographs you'd see on cheap Chinese electronics boxes in the late 90s-early 2000s.
- m4x30000, on 06/26/2009, -2/+2Picture looks weird... Or it's all the post processing ?
- slyzxx, on 06/26/2009, -9/+5I love HDR.
