Next Generation Neurosurgery With neuroArm Robot
dosci.org — Neurosurgery might be done with a much better precision, with the help of a Calgary-based research team that are working on a $30 million project, developed by the University of Calgary and the Calgary Health Region.

- ToeCracker, on 03/07/2008, -0/+7Any developments in this type of surgery is worth as many millions as can be injected.
- brlmnd, on 03/07/2008, -0/+7Probably one of the most useful medical innovations made in the last decade
- pirlok, on 03/07/2008, -2/+4After the environment, medicine should be our second concern. And when I say medicine, I mean that we have to find cure for all diseases. If the surgery will be the first to wake up the scientists, then this is fine for me!
- blast_flame, on 03/08/2008, -0/+5I'd go even further and say that medicine is more important than the environment. We only have to protect well enough that it is still fine for us humans to live in, we however have a moral obligation to advance medicine to its fullest potential so that as many sapients can be saved from death and suffering as possible.
- mareacaspica, on 03/08/2008, -2/+2I have to disagree with you on this one; if medicine doesn't progress a lot, there is a small chance that humanity will have to suffer, but if we don't take care of the environment, the perspectives are very dire
- blast_flame, on 03/08/2008, -0/+3If medicine doesn't progress then there is a 100% chance of every single human being dieing. It's called aging. On the other hand even if the environment was damaged to a very large degree it is unlikely that it would cause problems of that magnitude.

- jeimus, on 03/08/2008, -0/+6I was at the University of Calgary when this project was in its infancy and am very glad to see it progressing.
As an aside this is being developed with the team that developed the Canandarm space shuttle robot and the prototypes are truly stunning technological feats in surgical robotics.
In addition Dr. Sutherland is actually a pretty nice guy and has invested a lot of his time in this, despite being one of Alberta's (and Canada's) premier neurosurgeons - JePat, on 03/08/2008, -0/+1Medicine means saving people's life, so it absolutely has to be a priority!
- Cosmin91, on 03/08/2008, -0/+1That's what i call modern medicine
