New life found in ancient tombs
biologynews.net — Life has been discovered in the barren depths of Rome's ancient tombs, proving catacombs are not just a resting place for the dead. The two new species of bacteria found growing on the walls of the Roman tombs may help protect our cultural heritage monuments.

- Robcn643, on 09/26/2008, -14/+3Yet another reason to shut up those right wing evangelist preachers. They are all too prevalent in my town.
- TonyTheTerrible, on 09/26/2008, -1/+7what? lol
- michael43, on 09/26/2008, -2/+1Are you retarded?
- netgreek, on 09/26/2008, -14/+1Bacteria was found buried, so I buried this article.

- Rudegar, on 09/26/2008, -2/+1mummy 4 ? :O
- JDLamb88, on 09/26/2008, -0/+0Technically it would be #5.
- HerRedRing, on 09/26/2008, -2/+390% of all the species of bacteria is still unaccounted for.
2 new species, wow, are you kidding me?!- svendm, on 09/26/2008, -0/+7How many have you discovered?
- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -1/+5I know it wasn't likely, but I was expecting 1000 year old Roman Zombies. You never know when or where the beginning of the end will happen.
- Cybermaul, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2The zombies come after the 'lab accident'.
- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Hey, it could be the "sealed ancient curse" just as well!
- Felix2Fingerz, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2Dugg.....I actually learned a little something...
- dildoolielly, on 09/26/2008, -9/+4Speaking of ancient artifacts,
One of the main reasons I denounced my Christian faith is because I can't find one single shred of evidence for the Jesus of the Bible. Not one artifact or eyewitness account. Not even in the Bible.
Amazingly, we have not one Jewish, Greek, or Roman writer, even those who lived in the Middle East, much less anywhere else on the earth, who ever mentions him during his supposed life time. This appears quite extraordinary, and you will find few Christian apologists who dare mention this embarrassing fact.
After confronting a few Church members with this new knowledge for lack of evidence, it became painfully obvious that these people seems to have NO interest whatsoever in scientific debate. It seems all they care about is re-affirming their superstitious beliefs of disturbing stories of hell and damnation and devils and eternal suffering and ramming them down the throats of unsuspecting children.
I'd be happy to be proven wrong about this. But so far I haven't been.
http://www.nobeliefs.com/exist.htm- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -2/+8I have got a better debate: What does this have to do with the article?
- dildoolielly, on 09/26/2008, -3/+2Because you ran when I asked this on the "Mythical Jesus" article.
- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3Haha, That's not an answer. That's not even relevant to anything.
- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -2/+7Waitasec... I wasn't sure before... but you actually did it. You went through my comments and dugg them down the line. Holy ***** you're lame.

"Asianwaste", why can't you just answer the question? How many times have I asked you now on relevant boards? Why do you always digg me down and not reply?
Is it because you are a coward and a liar? - Chirp08, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2This is a great way to get the reputation of a douchebag on digg, keep it up dildoolielly!
- Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2It's simple. I'm not taking any sides of your stupid crusade. What I am taking arguing against is the relevancy of the religious debate that you wedge into any topic possible. What is funny is you ask me why I can't answer the question but really you're just trying to spin the topic back to your irrelevant discussion on the existence of god. You don't answer MY question. The bottom line: Your post has NOTHING to do with this topic and you've yet again tried to push your agenda into something that has nothing to do with it. Keep your religious crusade into topic where religion is relevant. You can copy and paste your tripe there.

I'm sorry, I'll wear my fancy garb for you next time.
- norman619, on 09/26/2008, -2/+3While that's all nice and interesting I have to side with asianwaste on this one. What does your comment have to do with an article about a new species of bacteria being found in the catacombs? If I'm not mistaken th article isnt about a new religious bacteria nor is it about a new Jesus bacteria. It doesn't addess religion at all.
- dildoolielly, on 09/26/2008, -3/+2-------If I'm not mistaken th article isnt about a new religious bacteria nor is it about a new Jesus bacteria.---------
What do you think "Intelligent Design" is? - norman619, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2dildo:
I see no mention in the article of ID at all. ID = Creationism = Religion. You reading the same article we are? Can you please show us a quote from the article which addresses ID/Creationism/Religion? - Asianwaste, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1bacteria, intelligent design... WHAT?

- michael43, on 09/26/2008, -4/+2I don't really understand why this article prompted your comment, but in response, you really didn't look very hard. Read this.

- norman619, on 09/26/2008, -0/+3Was it discovered by the Umbrella Corp?
- BufordT, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1"published in the September issue of the International Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology."
Where can I sign up for that subscription!!! - MOJIRA, on 09/26/2008, -0/+5Quarantine that *****.
- bentaisan, on 09/26/2008, -0/+2It will be interesting to see how the different bacteria are distributed throughout the world.
Obviously, they got down in the catabombs somehow, and if they are found in other places, then they must have had transportation.
People? Animals? Goods?
This might be another way to study the interfaces between cultures in ancient times. - krayzee911, on 09/26/2008, -1/+2Did I miss this part of the article? The first paragraph mentions how this bacteria "might protect these cultural monuments" and the rest of the article talks about how it's damaging the walls and structural elements...
- Cybermaul, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1People can destroy stuff a lot faster than bacteria can.
It's true, wikipedia told me so.
- Cybermaul, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1People can destroy stuff a lot faster than bacteria can.
- KaseyCarbone, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Haven't these people read Lovecraft? Seal that tomb in a mountain of concrete immediately!
- sarahbara, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1Visited this place in '02 and was impressed by the sheer antiquity of it. So pleased that there may be a new way of preserving the site.
