New efficiency record for solar cells
physorg.com — Physicist Bram Hoex and colleagues at Eindhoven University of Technology, together with the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, have improved the efficiency of an important type of solar cell from 21.9 to 23.2 percent (a relative improvement of 6 per cent). This new world record is being presented on Wednesday May 14 at a major solar energy conference

- tehbored, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1So? Silicon and sunlight are both plentiful, uranium is not (there's enough to last, but it's not everywhere and it's difficult to obtain). Also, solar power can be decentralized, nuclear power cannot. Nuclear power is still much more affordable than solar power on a large scale though, even with the substantial price of the reactors.
- tehbored, on 05/16/2008, -0/+1I could have sworn I saw articles last year saying that solar cells had achieved efficiencies of over 40%.
