- MarkBrent, on 10/18/2009, -1/+20That's AWESOME. This should give a lot of hope for many people. Damn, science is great!
- thecoolestguy, on 10/19/2009, -1/+14I can't wait until I have the option of getting a replacement hand in case I get my hand cut off in a light saber duel.
- ukiya, on 10/19/2009, -0/+12and if they cut off your feet, you can have replacement hands!
- copypastry, on 10/19/2009, -0/+11But... can it love?
- LucidDr34m3r, on 10/19/2009, -0/+9As someone who could actually benefit from having a robotic arm with tactile feedback one day, I can say this tech is exciting. I could have a robotic replacement arm within my lifetime (assuming I'm rich of course). I've seen some other tech for really accurate and realistic looking arms as well. It would be nice is all of these people started working together. It might be a good idea to design these features independently with sort of biological API's. Create prosthesis with motor control interfaces and tactile feedback interfaces. Abstract the presentation from the backend.
Anyway, this is great news. - lolerskate, on 10/19/2009, -1/+10There a masturbation joke to be made here.
- appleseed1234, on 10/19/2009, -0/+7Once again, with feeling!
- eloi89, on 10/18/2009, -2/+8This is great news.
And for some people, no more sitting on your hand so it goes numb when you want to pleasure yourself, just turn the feeling switch to off. - dmbchris, on 10/19/2009, -0/+6I was really hoping for the headline to continue "can feel pain, wonders why it was programmed that way"
- kalleC, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4does it come with un usb port?
http://www.xkcd.com/644/ - Trexor, on 10/19/2009, -0/+4You have my condolences, I am sorry for your loss.
- heartsNbubbles, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Eh, I'm not feelin' it.
- rrouse, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3I swear, I didn't think this technology would be development in my lifetime.
- elliotys, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3@heartsNbubbles, but with the new hand you would ; )
- Chadul, on 10/19/2009, -1/+4Now for an artificial penis with feeling =D
- Amadeus2490, on 10/19/2009, -0/+3Imagine trying to move your leg after it's fell asleep. That's what it's like.
Probably, I mean. - verdantx, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3robotic hands can't say no...
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3At first it sounded like he said the guy lost his hand to an aggressive tuna.
- Tiak, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2I'm not sure exactly when this video was from, but it seems possible that we beat them to it.
http://www.physorg.com/news96887424.html - c0re1337, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2Didn't this happen in Terminator 2?
- BookaShade, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2SCIENCE!
- elliotys, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3Science. . .It works bitches!!!
- Chadul, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3Maybe I should have specified, artificial penis extension prosthetic.
- LawIsGone, on 10/19/2009, -1/+3It is going to be long before that guy realizes his insane Guitar Hero skills.
- valkyries, on 10/19/2009, -0/+2google "luke arm" Deka has been working on it for awhile,
- ealmiladi, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Pretty sweet.
- ivangrebe, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1robotics is more than 'science'. is art!
- FreckleEars, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1So this technology could expand so that we can all have our brains and nervous systems yoinked out and plopped into a stainless steel nuclear powered exoskeleton... sort of like Robocop. Except we would also add jet packs, super strength, and a built in cell phone that you can hear in your head =P.
On a serious note, such a system could be built where someone could tie into a computer or vehicle and operate it without actually moving, were someone to have these artificial limbs. That would be kind of cool. - flossdaily, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1I can't believe it's taken so long to develop this. I wonder what were the big technical hurdles they had to overcome?
Anyways, this is just the foundation I need to start working on my giant remote controlled axillary penis. - ZurMacht, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Kill it with fire!
- euphoria860, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1i came here to post this...
- Chadul, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Someone once recommended this does it actually work.
- Apolitik, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Brings a whole new meaning to the 'stranger'.
- Spoomeister, on 10/19/2009, -0/+1Up next: an artificial foot that's ticklish.
- elliotys, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1Careful, I'm pretty sure that thing could rip you dick clean off.
- xexx, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1you should read "The Singularity is Near," this stuff is nothing compared to what we'll be seeing soon.
- ilovepants, on 10/19/2009, -1/+1One more time, with feeling!*
- BuenoCabra, on 10/19/2009, -2/+0Everyone in that video is incredibly bored by this revolutionary discovery.
