NASA: Ozone Hole Watch web site
ozonewatch.gsfc.nasa.gov — Where you can check on the latest status of the ozone layer over the South Pole. Satellite instruments monitor the ozone layer, and we use their data to create the images that depict the amount of ozone.

- RippinKitten, on 10/22/2007, -7/+3disastrous effects happens
- Scynet, on 10/22/2007, -3/+3Actually, as far as I know, we've had the ozone hole back in its normal size for years now. Maybe the very successful ban on CFC compounds is the reason, but it's not such a threat currently, things like global warming have the potential to cause a lot more trouble.
- gritta, on 10/22/2007, -3/+1As far as I can see, the ozone in the videos isn't getting less, it is just building up in certain areas. Check out the 2007 daily averages: http://ozonewatch.gsfc.nasa.gov/ozone_maps/movies/ ...
- MrObjectional, on 10/22/2007, -2/+1You do realize that the variation in that video is a SEASONAL phenomenon, right? When it gets colder, the CFC's still up there are more likely to break down and make the hole. When it warms up, the hole will shrink, usually with a net shrinkage of the "hole."
- Seidoger, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1It is seasonal.
But it is getting colder and colder up there since the greenhouse effect is keeping the heat down on Earth, thus allowing the CFC's to breakup more ozone molecules.

- toasterhead2k, on 10/30/2007, -5/+17See maybe the problem is that they're measuring ozone in Dobson units. If they measured ozone in Friedman units we'd have that hole plugged in six months.
Maybe twelve. - 0Boy, on 10/23/2007, -2/+5Frank Drabek, "I supported you when you were off saving the endzone layer."
- skyshock1, on 10/22/2007, -3/+8Are there really people who have nothing better to do than sit around and watch a live feed of the status of our Ozone layer?
- arjie, on 10/22/2007, -1/+6More fun than TV these days.
- colinmhayes, on 10/21/2007, -1/+1well if you look at the bottom of the site, it's apparently what Paul Newman is doing these days. And making delicious salad dressing.
- toasterhead2k, on 10/23/2007, -0/+1He makes a pretty good salsa, too.
- digitalgreek, on 10/21/2007, -0/+5this is what the internet is about, dynamically updated data with charts and timelines...gotta love it.
- MrObjectional, on 10/21/2007, -1/+1...and people taking said timelines out of context because it takes no effort to obtain them.
- ohsin, on 10/22/2007, -4/+3G(O3)ATSE
- colinmhayes, on 10/21/2007, -1/+1Dobson units? well that's the problem, they're using cheap telescopes to look at the damn thing.
- kindpastor, on 10/23/2007, -2/+1What a goddamn waste of money, at least stick some ads on that site so it pays for itself.
- srodolff, on 10/24/2007, -0/+1Well, that was enlightening. Go ahead and view the animations for 2006 and 2007. The ozone hole grows and shrinks every year. Maxs out in summer and closes in winter. This begs the question: If the ozone hole is man made, why does it shrink to nothing every year?
