- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -6/+51I can't believe you've actually put that thing in your mouth.
- kowgod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19I made the switch from coffee to tea, and mostly green tea, about a month ago purely due to the fact that I drank so much coffee every day, for 10+ years, that it started to hurt my stomach.
Now, I know this is just anecdotal evidence, and certainly has nothing to do with green tea's effects or benefits on the brain, but I just feel better. I drink it for the caffeine, but since switching I just feel I have more energy and think clearer, and not in that fake caffeine induced way.
I am a green tea evangelist, now! I will add this to the ever growing green tea gospel. - smartpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The cheap green tea you can usually find at the grocery store (Lipton, Celestial Seasonings, Salada) sure does taste like ass. It's bitter and harsh. I can't blame anybody for not liking that crap. I urge you to give some GOOD tea a shot.
The Tazo tea you can get at Starbucks is pretty good (China Green Tips). I usually get Yama Moto Yama's "sushi bar style" green tea at a Japanese grocery store by me. It's good and cheap. www.specialteas.com has a great variety that's fun to try out.
Good green tea has a subtle flavor, natural sweetness to it, and sometimes it leaves a fruity taste in your mouth that's very pleasant (almost like a peach flavor I'd say). After a few cups, it also gives you an awesome buzz that's completely different from coffee. It makes you feel attentive yet calm. My friend calls it a "green tea high". - Malakin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8If you don't think you like green tea you should go to a real tea shop and get a "green tea sampler pack". If they don't sell the tea loose then they're not a "real" tea shop IMO. Give them all a try and you may be surprised. I also suggest trying some white tea which has even better health benefits and happens to be my favourite.
- endgame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I love Green Tea. I drink that all the time instead of sugar filed soda!
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So, basicly green tea is a magic cure-all potion.
I bet it can substitute Windex. - Godric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Green tea brewed from whole leaves not only tastes a lot better, but for some perverse reason, it is actually cheaper than the tea bag tea that you buy in supermarkets. (The trick is not to infuse it too hot, or too long) Try a basic Japanese Sencha or Bancha from uptontea.com. You can even buy fillable disposable tea bags, tea pots and other accessories there.
- artgon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Forget green tea... just put some 'tussin on it.
- seanasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where did you get this idea? Please, cite a source. Excessive caffeine will cause you to excrete more calcium but green tea has less caffeine than most teas.
- Fujiwara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4***** yeah! Dunno the other types out there, but i drink the orange blossom white tea. From the makers of that Fuze stuff. Happy Drinking ;)
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Green Tea with "Honey" really hits the spot with taste if your looking for something sweet and delicious.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+5Jasmine green tea is awesome.. bit of sugar to sweeten and you've got good tasting, healthy tea.
- 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm in the same boat. I still have my first cup of joe when I wake from the Senseo. But for the rest of the day it's Green Tea, about 6 cups. Been about a year now and I feel much better and don't get the jitters or caffeine crash at the end of my day.
- dmann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3its also good for your taste buds, because its tasty...
oh, an F budweiser...
PBR BABY - tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Greem Tea rocks!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3green tea makes me ill. Maybe i dont need 5 cups but it isnt going to replace coffeee in my house anytime soon.
- cyborgO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3ditto. But I don't drink it everyday, maybe 2 out of 3, and only 1 to 3 cups. I was a 16 year coffee addict. A sad one too, 2 to 3 pots of heavy coffee a day. Looking back, what an idiot I was for that.
Good job I say.
More health research! More life extension research!
Live love learn, and geek! - DarkHack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love green tea and it beat coffee anytime for me.
- dailyclerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they do have it. its called green tea extract. stuff blows. the best part about tea is drinking it.
- preved, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good news. However, it is just a factor, one of many. It may or may not be a principal contributor to the things described in the article. Simple math exercises (I'm speculating) may lead to even better results.
- chemokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Congrats on making the switch. Although I'm not sure if drinking 6 cups of the stuff is that great either. Moderation guys.
- Humzaseo, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1fine info about green tea. it is also use full for some other skin condition as mentioned on http://bodyhealthsoul.com/?/main/comments/green_te ... The main origin of the green tea is china. but it is widely used in many parts of the world.
- JohnboiWaltune, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why can't they just put the good stuff from the green tea into a pill, so you don't have to taste it and be bothered by making it.
- Godric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dragon's Well is the second best. Japanese Gyokuro is the best ;)
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The best green tea in the world? Longjing Cha (Dragon's Well Tea). It comes from Hangzhou, China and is amazing (if you like green tea). The Dragon Well is located in the hills outside Hangzhou and dates back well over 1,000 years. The area is jam packed with tea plantations all up and down the hill sides and is quite beautiful. Previously, the Chinese emperor's (I forget which one) personal fields were located in this area.
There are many different levels of quality even within Dragon's Well tea. The best are leaves that are handpicked young in the spring, roasted lightly in a pan and then sold promptly. One way to tell quality is to see how long it takes the leaves to settle in the cup after pouring in hot water. The longer they hang in the cup, the better. Dry, dessicated leaves will sink very quickly and are a sign of inferior quality.
The tea bag green teas offered in the U.S. all seem to be of this dry, dessicated type. Their flavor (all of them that I've tasted, I'm afraid) reminds me of what the dust and debris left over from an empty sack of real leaves must taste like. Regardless, green tea IS an acquired taste. Strange and kind of grassy tasting at first, you will grow to like it over time. In China it is common to see people with large jelly jars of green tea that they carry around all day, refilling as their hot water gets low. FYI, you can generally get three refills of hot water out of 1 "dose" of loose tea leaves ("dose" meaning a tiny pile, just enough to cover the bottom and perhaps a touch more, in the bottom of your container). Drink it down to the last 1/4 and then refill. No sugar, no honey, just hot water and loose tea leaves.
Yes, I am tea geek... hear me slurp! - EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Coffee = free at work
Gearn Tea = $.59 at work.
There's so little difference to me (from a caffine-energy point) that I can't rationalize the 59-cents. - 4abtrlife, on 11/22/2008, -0/+1Wow, nature has given all that is needed for man to be healthy. Unfortunately we go behind Coke and Pepsi and all tha garbage. In the excitement, I found another article that I thought was pretty interesting on the green tea diet http://newhealthfacts.com/green-tea/green-tea-diet ...
- toomuchgreentea, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No one else will ever have toomuchgreentea ... it's already mine. ;-)
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Arizona Green Tea really hits the spot
- thmprsmurf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MMMMMMMMMMM......Tazo Zen is the best tea!!!! Im addicted I drink 2 boxes a week.....as for the memory loss claim......***** I forgot what i was about to say
- Fujiwara, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3o.O Amazing. How long did you think about this before typing it? 1 or 2 hours?
- dchaosdx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7still no substitute for the proverbial "tears of chuck norris"
- skip-p, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Adagio has most of the popular teas, I shop with them too. For a different group of selections as well as accessories you might try cupoftea.uk they give good service & have some things that Adagio doesn't. I found a tea timer there that I was served with tea in Germany last year & had been looking for ever since. Works like a lava lamp ( for those who can remember them )
- gaoshan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, Ghandi drank his own piss. He would have loved Budweiser.
- cloudwalkertea, on 07/15/2008, -0/+0www.cloudwalkerteas.com
Camellia Sinensis is indeed the source of all "good" tea. However, green tea is but one form of it, albeit a fresh form. Oolong has been oxidized, anywhere from 10-70% and is (depending on degree of oxidation) best consumed fresh or aged, and pu erh: oxidized, fermented and either aged or cooked for that excellent earthy taste. Additionally, depending on the size of the tea plantation, each tea tree may be named and treated almost as a member of the Chinese family growing it. This in turn improves the chi quality of the tree in question, particularly as the leaves will be hand rolled in the tea preparation process. The cost may be more, but the price is worth it in the end. - unidyn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To make sweeping generalizations that tea is tea, or any product named something is the same as anything else named the same thing, is, with all due respect, is ridiculous. Although I don't have the time or inclination to scour the source I've recently read, there was a survey on various green tea manufacturers, including Earl Grey. Earl would not have been very flattered, but you just go on believing that, it's a free world. I also believe that anytime a market becomes popular, you become inundated with all sorts of phonies and crackpots promoting the idea their product is esoteric, therefore justifiably should cost more because it's done better. I don't believe you need spend an outrageous amount of money for quality tea. There are different parts to the plant you refer to, and the preparation can affect the quality as well. You can put any name on the label you want, but only a fool (or a Republican) will presume it's the real deal cause it says so. (looking forward to the response to this, that will speak volumes in itself!)
Ok, flame away now ;-) - dailyclerk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Green tea is definitely great and everyone that drinks it regularly knows how good it is for you. Dragonwell is definitely great but for those that want something with a bit of flavor, check out the long island strawberry green tea, http://www.psteas.com/product_info.php?products_id=140.
But if you are looking for bottled teas, check out Adagio's new line of unsweetend teas called the anteadote, http://www.adagio.com/misc/anteadote.html?SID=50e39e26ff70881dedb614d1f2a1874d.simply amazing. - tropicalteaco, on 09/29/2008, -0/+0I am a white tea freak, if not white for sure some chai!!
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I am drinking a cup of green tea right now, the place they talk about on diggnation really dose have good tea!
- CrashKC, on 08/25/2008, -1/+1Tea is tea. Green tea and black tea both come from the same plant, camellia sinensis. The same compounds are present, etc. Feel free to have Earl Grey for breakfast, you'll get the same benefit as drinking your genmai cha.
- banfflakelouise, on 11/13/2008, -0/+0Here's a video we made about a tea house in Banff owned and operated by a woman who grew up at a backcountry tea house in Lake Louise called Plain of Six Glaciers Tea House... her shop in Banff is called the Banff International Tea Store.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tprJw-HPfU - papercut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah well oolong tea has half the catechins, four times the polyphenols, and twice the teaflavin tearubigin:

Oh yeah, this is half spam, but I am a poor college student in Taiwan, and folks love my tea. Just check my feedback.
papercut out - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3What is it with Americans? Everything gotta have a ton of sugar or fat in it or they won't eat/drink it.

- flickr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Too bad the green tea can also cause osteoporosis when drank in excess. Everything in moderation friends.
- jhub908, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2tussin baby! mo tussin mo TUSSIN!
- Mand0lesi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Drink mate; that's even better for you but most people will not like the taste.
- Canthros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I used to go through as much as a quart of tea (green, black, or sometimes white) in a given day. Felt fine.
