- Perk, on 11/17/2008, -0/+83This must be true. I take asprin every couple of days and I've never done a Public Service Announcement.
- MikeyBillz, on 11/17/2008, -2/+28Masturbation is another way to prevent prostate cancer....I know I'm safe....As a matter of fact, I'm rubbing one out right now....
- DrDigg, on 11/17/2008, -0/+25"However, these data also indicate that NSAID use could affect our ability to detect prostate cancer, regardless of any reduction in prostate cancer risk.... use of these agents could be hampering our ability to detect early-stage prostate cancer through PSA screening"

*The More You Know*
------------==========(*) - hnazareth16, on 11/16/2008, -2/+21Thanks to my job, I take an aspirin or two a day. Who knew all the headaches they were giving me were actually making me healthier?
- dha07030, on 11/17/2008, -0/+14Drink more water and less caffeinated beverages. Helps cut down on headaches.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+12So pop an Aspirin, and don't copy that floppy.
- louiebaur, on 11/17/2008, -0/+10Aspirin has so many health benefits, knowing this gives me more incentive to take one a day.
- spaceman84, on 11/17/2008, -1/+9But does it do as good a job as cannabis?
- rmxz, on 11/17/2008, -0/+8Who said anything about making you healthier? PSA's a symptom of prostate cancer, not the cause; so (as mentioned in the article) it's quite possible Aspirin's just making it harder to detect.
And to the other people in this thread talking about caffeine? Are you suggesting that avoiding caffeine will have anything to do with PSA levels? Or just make you less alert? - shame126, on 11/17/2008, -0/+7Very true, but for some of us, aspirin can have some pretty bad side effects, like ulcers.
- lolipop99, on 11/17/2008, -3/+9I never take aspirin! I have been doing PSA's all day!!
btw
"Be cool, stay in school!" - catalysis, on 11/17/2008, -2/+8Marijuana gives you a prostate of steel.
- kyoobeh, on 11/17/2008, -1/+6i don't think anything does as good of a job as cannabis.
- korvan504521, on 11/17/2008, -0/+5so either it prevents cancer or it prevents us seeing the cancer.
thats. . . kinda stupid. - Grok22, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Cutting down on caffeine could help his headaches.
- mtyrney, on 11/17/2008, -1/+5http://digg.com/health/Aspirin_vs_Marijuana
- zydeco, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Read the article again. Aspirin is a *problem*, not a cure.
- kebwi, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4Go back to scientology you vitamin-chugging nut.
[all in good fun]
More seriously, aspirin knocks my psuedo-migraines down like nothing else I've ever tried, so I'll just keep on taking aspirin if that's okay with you. You're welcome to a migraine anytime you want.
Cheers! - AmaDaden, on 11/17/2008, -0/+4I can second that. It's a major part of caffeine withdrawal. Funny thing about caffeine is that while you don't feel the need to have it when you are in withdrawal. So you just get headaches and sleepiness for seemingly no reason. I recommend that anyone who has ANY caffeine read a bit about it and understand it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine. I cut caffeine down to reasonable levels and it helped me out a lot with dealing college all nighter pain.

- RobotBuddha, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3We have to take pills to stay healthy because it's not natural for most of us to live what we now consider a normal lifespan. You can complain about it all you want, but there's a pretty good chance that if you go far enough back into your past you'll find an incident where you would have died if not for modern medicine.
- AndrewMoyer, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3Caffeine is an ingredient in Excedrin Migraine (about the same as a cup of coffee), included for the purpose of boosting the effectiveness of the other ingredients, Aspirin and Acetaminophen.

It sure helps my killer headaches, but kills my appetite and stomach lining at the same time. - inactive, on 11/17/2008, -0/+3OGC
- elitebmo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2Isn't that what Slimer leaves behind?
- Ne007, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2So the moral of the story is to stay off Aspirin for weeks before you have a PSA test (after consulting with your doctor of course), otherwise the Aspirin may give you a false negative (which would mean that you could have prostate cancer without it showing up on your test)..
The same goes for Propecia and finasteride.
This is not saying Aspirin wards off prostate cancer, it just states it lowers PSA levels....and high PSA levels is what helps detect prostate cancer. - houndeyex, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2He's right, drug dealers are dorks! Don't even talk to 'em!

- DrummerAndrew, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2I still think marijuana does a better job of curing my headaches quicker and safer.
- flammablewater, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2dugg for shooting star ASCII
- maliath, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2Be careful with continuous use of Aspirin. It inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes which create prostaglandins. Prostaglandins, while the cause of inflammatory reactions, also protect your stomach mucosa. Long term use of aspirin can lead to stomach ulcers.
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3If you are so worried about your health you should exercise more and eat better, that helps cut down on so many issues. Munching pills will do little when you still have a ***** lifestyle.
- Zippo, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2I prefer the more natural method to helping prevent prostate cancer... a good, regular session of kitten killing... if you know what I mean.
Edit: MikeyBillz was far less subtle. - flammablewater, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2/s ?
- bucketbeats, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3I call BS.... Propaganda paid for by the drug companies... who saw the post about MARIJUANA and how Assprin kills and herb doesn't!
- MiDri, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2But coca cola is soooooooo gooooooodddddd!!!!
- inactive, on 11/17/2008, -1/+3They make special aspirin that dissolves in the intestines for just such people. It's called Ecotrin.
- dha07030, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2The only reason I mentioned caffeine is because it can dehydrate you causing headaches. It is also why I mentioned drinking water.
- rockstar1o9, on 11/17/2008, -0/+2While many migraine pain killers may contain caffeine, most over the counter asprin does not...hence why migraine medicine is labeled differently.
- mykool, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Two aspirin stories in one day
http://digg.com/health/Aspirin_vs_Marijuana - AmaDaden, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1Hey, I still drink a lot of soda. I just know what I'm in for. For example I try to drink sprite instead of coke(caffeine free!). Also I don't have a cup of coffee every morning either. I could never figure out why people who said they NEEDED coffee in the morning thought that kind of thing was ok. Once you look around you can find lots of little places to lower the average amount of caffeine with few to zero changes to your life style.
- kebinusan, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1Is this national get pot articles on Digg day or something?
- TecK415, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1I'm sure it helps a little, but not enough to notice, atleast for me.
- dbradman56, on 02/26/2009, -0/+1nice informative stuff :)

Good theory except for all the double blind testing it received. - AmaDaden, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1As I understand it the dehydration is not what causes the headaches from caffeine. The issue is that caffeine shrinks the blood vessels in the brain. If you have caffeine for a long period of time your body gets used to this amount of blood to the brain so when you stop drinking caffeine suddenly (like if you use 5 energy drinks to stay up for an all nighter then have none the next day) you get a KILLER headache in about 12 or 24 hours time. I've personally found the cure is "hair of the dog that bit you" since it will shrink the blood vessels again. Basically when you feel the headache coming drink something with caffeine. Do it quick, the headaches get very painful very quickly.
This same effect that causes headaches is why caffeine is included in many pain relievers.

P.S. What you are talking about sounds like the reason people get hang overs from alcohol. - inactive, on 11/18/2008, -0/+1Marijuana vs. Pharmaceuticals dicohtomy emerging?
- xxTazxx, on 11/17/2008, -0/+1Let me comment on this as it has the most diggs and people will inevitably think "I wonder what the reply to this comment is".
