Is it REALLY that much of a pain in the ass, clicking something to get more of the article? Keep in mind, the multi-page thing was done INSTEAD of pop-up ads, annoying flash ads, or irritating interstitials. Basically we picked the LEAST annoying way to make a profit off an article, and we're still getting *****. I'm honestly out of ideas. How would you rather we made money? Would a 20-second interstitial ad, like IGN or The Onion does, before you got to the article, be better? Seriously, let me know. Whatever the readers want, they get. Tell me what you want in a way that still makes a profit, and we WILL do it.
