Man recites over 22,000 digits of pi, from his memory.
en.wikipedia.org — After a severe seizure, Daniel Temmet was able to recall mathematical and sequential facts with easy, including the ability to recite, over several hours, number Pi to it's 22,514's digit.

- Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0there are 2 dupes of the 80000+ japanese professor on digg
- curtissthompson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7yeah actually 80,000+ isn't even the record, which is much higher! Good 'ole savants!
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3no 80,000+ is the record for reciting (from memory, no computers), but it was calculated to 1.24 trillion places.
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually 42,195 decimal places is the world record: http://pi-world-ranking-list.com/lists/memo/index.html
The recitation of Akira Haraguchi (83,431 decimal places) is still to be verified.
- ttntyler, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6That's just amazing
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -46/+6I can count with easy too!
- everfalling, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13i remember this. i think it was on BBC, a program called 'The Boy With The Incredible Brain'. He sees the numbers as unique shapes in his head. it's awsome.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -55/+22oh *****, i got to 83,430 the other day and on the last dig... "32534543565467576586789638753457385743578975843753458345349a32... uh... 5?"

- Lung-Dart, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11-24 comment diggs because he said *****. Finnally now I can read digg with the safety of over sensitive christian censorship! I can see this new comment system really working out!!
At least it looks better IMO, but for now, looks like im cranking down the threshold for showing comments and put up with the flames
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -31/+10oh yeah, and pi = 3... what an idiot!
- strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5People actually modded this comment *down*? Is this new comment system the death of jokes on Digg?
- satch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0it wasn't funny.
- SeanMoney, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15Funny I'm watching this on Discovery right now.
- t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I saw it there a while ago. Good show.
- DigitalDaiquiri, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4As did I only a couple of hours ago. Really quite amazing.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I should have watched it :(

- pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -12/+780,000 is indeed impressive, but so is 22k! lol ... no digg, but it's sorta interesting.
- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Yep, I just watched a show about this on the Discovery channel. For people in the Eastern US, it was on a 9pm.
- Maverick83, on 10/12/2007, -21/+6What a waste of brain power.
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This is on OnDemand, or it was. I watched it, under the Discovery stuff.
Pretty trippy though the way that guy's brain works. - pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7It's interesting how he learn languages so quickly...
Imagine if, in the future, some basic brain modifications could be made and all of use could have these amazing skills of his...- moonshn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i don't think i could ever let someone go into my head to *modify* it
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"i don't think i could ever let someone go into my head to *modify* it"
I have a feeling you would change your tune if all of your peers were doing it and getting way ahead of you in life because of it.
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Can't hold a candle to Apu Nahasapeemapetilon. Mmm pi.
- TheOneGreatX, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3no video.......
- ProphetSix, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11This is old news. And we're linking to wikipedia now? Not even a current web site or blog or news agency? If it's on Discovery channel, couldn't we even link to that?
Here's a better link if you actualy wanna see how old this is:

No digg.- pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How does this girl get on the list?
20 Digits!!! OMG!

- jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5people always do this now, but 22k is no where near the record
no digg - thecandyman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2wow umm... someone needs a life ( the daniel temmet guy ) digg anyway
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12i thought i was impressive because I know 9 digits.
- Flankk, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Ten minutes to Corn Pops.
- jhowe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This is sweet. Hopefully someday we'll be able to unlock parts of the brain so that everyone can do things like this.
- c0uchm0nster, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6yeah, because it would be soo useful to remember long extremely long numbers... why, with that power we could.... get rid of the displays on cash registers and just have the cashier recite the prices of things?
or we could all marvel at some guy who can recite pi to 160,000 places while we're all at a measly 80,000.
and it would go even further than that - we'd all refer to e as more than just 2.71 - The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is useful (being able to find out if a number is a prime or not), it takes computers a long time (an algorithm that can do what they can would be amazing), and large prime numbers are used in computer encryption.
- c0uchm0nster, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6yeah, because it would be soo useful to remember long extremely long numbers... why, with that power we could.... get rid of the displays on cash registers and just have the cashier recite the prices of things?
- tehbawb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Honestly, can we all at least read what we typed before we submit a story to digg?
- williamw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3someone deleted the story on wiki
- jczer68, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3I can recite all the digits of pi if you tell me if each digit is correct or not. :)
Is it seven, um, eight? okay then, nine. - farkninja, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I remember this being on digg about a month ago. Still very cool.
+digg - Turtleboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Where in the Wiki article does it say anything about a seizure?
- golfobsession91, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4although somewhat impressive, many savants can recite 80k+
no digg :(- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Please list some.
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5i know 3.14... then there's a 2 or something... that's about it.

- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I actually know like 100 digits or so... not impressive compared to these savants but still... I'm just a normal highschool kid:
3.141592653598793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286208998628034825342117
damn... I don't remember after that... but on a good day I can get 107...
- Urusai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Big deal, I know pi to all places...it goes something like this: π
That is all. - mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Is there an algorithm to this severe seizure? I have been dreaming of something like this to happen to me forever. College will sure be a lot easier. So remember, email me the procedure to getting that seizure. Thanks.
- SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The algorithm.
var magic = new LSD();
var myBrain = new Brain("urusai");
var brain_rewrite = magic.apply(myBrain); //good luck!
myBrain = brain_rewrite;
- SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The algorithm.
- SnakeO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+73.14159
These are numbers in the pi sign
(Say it and you'll remember it forever)- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2LOL, good one!
- blakholephysics, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5In a contest at school I memorized 60 digits..
Now all I can recall are the first 30 or so.

That's all I can recall from memory :( - republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Anyone want me to upload this video for the discovery channel?
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"Anyone want me to upload this video for the discovery channel?"
Not for them, from them. opps - warhammerelf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I know the first 111 digits. Odd how it worked out to me memorizing exactly that number.
- proidiot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wikipedia????
i'm not AGAINST linking to wikipedia, but it does seem to be a strange thing to link to in digg...... - tudacee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2DT also has his own online biz, too...teaching you languages and math...
check it out.

- Zonkzor, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I watched this today as well. Although the guy is interesting, this deserved to be a 5 minute news segment and not an entire hour long show. It basically kept showing him remembering large lists of numbers and the show's announcer repeating to us how super leet his brain is. Too little content spread too thin. I turned it off 3/4 of the way through.
------
http://collegecheapskate.com- poet_will, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He wasn't remembering. His mind was actually calculating the answers while he said the number associatied with different shapes in his mind. I also watched this show on sunday. I am sure that he could have gone more than 22514 digits if he sat there and kept saying nubmers.
- Smily, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I can do 3.14159265358979 (it's not really that hard, three point fourteen fifteen nine two sixtyfive thirtyfive eightynine seventynine, there :))
but really if brain could be modified to turn shapes/faces/colors etc. into numbers automatically, we would calculate a whole lot faster I guess :) - Avius, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I can do better than just adding and multiplying, I have sex every night, so my life doesn't suck as much as does for that nerd.
- drbroccoli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You and your filthy moral values. I'm not sarcastic either. How can you just brad about something like that? What are you doing on digg? Shouldn't you be playing football?
- mattgilberg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2savants are amazing, if only someday within the next few years autism will be cured and the brain power that autism presents will be able to be harnessed.
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I only know 200. Just enough to recite until people get bored. Hint: there is a palindrome of 32823 in the early hundreds.
- slythic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Shame these intelligent people can't put all this time into somthing more productive.
Cool I guess though :-| - elvis314, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510
There is 50 digits for you. Now PI day is coming up in 10 days...Who is celebrating? - kristin364, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I wish I could do that. School would be so easy.
