"Humanoids" are any creature/thing that resembles a human. Primates are humanoids. - wordsnatcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My blood is man-made. It's brewed fresh every day by me, in me - a man.
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You could call an ape humanoid. It has two legs and two arms. I'm /sure/ that some science buff is going to jump in here a prove that I'm retarded because I don't know some obscure science fact that makes apes /not/ humanoid, but hey. Until they get here...
- kosibar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's funny that we see this story on the same day as a story about some people using hook worms to prevent allergies. So often I hear of discoveries in which we have cleaned something out of our system that we decided was bad but our bodies actually needed to function properly.
So what happens when we get our fake blood, remove all of the bacteria and viruses, and find out that we needed some of that bacteria. (Research on the digestive tract, for one thing, will explain how bacteria is necessary to our system. Some digestive problems can even be resolved by introducing bacteria into the system.) Do we then look for a medication to treat the problems brought on by the new lack of bacteria?
It's amazing how our bodies can take care of themselves. I've learned that most of the trouble I've had has been caused by my own intervention. Letting things run their course and letting my body take care of its problems in the ways it knows best have been the best medicine for me.
Disclaimer: I'm not an anti-medication type and actually took a couple of Alleve for a headache tonight. My point is that we should be careful of being extremists at anything - ie. fake blood, anti-bacterial everything, etc. - WickedDrag0oN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile."
- scottt106, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1digg for grodius's links. read the cnn article: http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/02/20/blood.substitute.ap/
also being tested on: unconscious and un-consenting patients. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's about time. Keith Richards was due for an oil change anyways.

Oh man, that made me laugh out loud .. not cool, I'm at work .. shh! no humor until after 5pm EST - Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vaporware. They've been talking about artificle blood since the 70's. I'll believe it when I see it.
- I_am_so_smrt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder what potential this has for AIDS and HIV afflicted victims
- theonlybigboss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone else think that this may be some of the first steps in making a cyborg?
that would be bad ass lol - Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0would that be an apeanoid?
If I spell check apeanoid I might crash the server lol. - MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apes don't walk upright.
- GreenSlabOfClay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1dankant go spout your propaganda elsewhere.
Polyethylene Glycol is used in laxatives.
Hopefully the patient won't ***** themselves to death.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_glycol - ericpp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Isn't all blood man-made (or woman-made)?
- dvanders, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is nothing new... if you watch BSG you know that cylon blood cures cancer.
- JimMarchwBBV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Betcha they'll use Jehovah's Witnesses as beta testers :).
- modian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Intruder alert! Get the humanoid!
- Drumrboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sounds very cool!
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Is the Cybus Corporation behind this? Beware, the Cybermen are coming! - doles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my blood is already man-made, but it appears defective as I still get sick. BLAST
- blueice03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think we are talking about permanent whole-body blood replacement here. Only the same amounts used currently by real blood during transfusions, surgery, emergency medical care, etc. Therefore, it would only be temporary until a person's own body replenishes its blood supply. I could be wrong about this, but as such, this limits the potential problems of having an artificial blood running through your veins.
- grayBot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0some viruses and bacteria are helpful.... actually a small percentage of human DNA is made up of retroviruses ....... i.e. using this blood may block certain types of subtle yet possibly important protein transcription from taking affect that have been useful in our evolution....
so yea... im not gonna be using this blood until ve seen that it doesnt make people crazy - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
thanx grodious for those links otherwise i would assume this as ***** - isny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF? Tests on humanoids? I didn't realize that we were testing on them.
- Vektuz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WHEN HUMANOIDS ATTACK
- colebarnes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been running my humaniod on 10W30 for years... it's cheaper than fake blood...
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, this has some serious potential!
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is amazing.
Oh, and 'humanoids'? AFAIK, humans are the only real humanoids outside of sci-fi... - ProfHognutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ok, what the hell is a humanoid? Klingons?
The closest you're going to get to a human is a primate and they are not "humanoids." What is this crap? - okeimakei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0C'mon, now Dracula can have have banquets!
- enzomedici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Humanoids! Damn, didn't know we had built 'em yet. Japan is always ahead of the curve. - dj_sea2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is it just me or does this subject sound like an AWESOME plot for a sci-fi/thriller/horror movie? Hollywood, PLEASE take note.
- mrshiny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is not new - Baxter tried this in the 90's (but killed a few in tests) and this other company apparently got permission in '04 to test on critically ill without permission:
http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/02/20/blood.substitute.ap/ - diggerphelps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This blood is obviously "made" from the man named Chuck Norris.
- DrEbola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am actually a humanoid, so I'll let you guys know how everything goes when I can. +digg
- antron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Chicken! Fight like a Robot!
- iamagrenade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cue zombies: now. Doesn't carry bacteria/viruses, but -does- cause uncontrollable desire for actual blood.
- solarpowered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"hu·man·oid (hyū'mə-noid') adj. Having human characteristics or form".
Hmmmmm.... that would be.... humans. We haven't discovered any *other* humanoids yet. Too much Star Trek by the author of TFA. - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0too vague.
- TardisDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks to the fact that you need a subscription, I couldn't RTFA, but I hope this Frankenblood doesn't kill off those hookworms people are planting in their guts to fight off hay fever, asthma, Chrones disease, etc..
- tehpwn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Obviously another way man plays god.
Just as artificial stuff (ie. Aspartame) is worse than the good...so will this be. - grislygus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0S.T.I:
