- BarleyWind, on 12/31/2007, -38/+108Amusingly this civilization is more advanced than Russia is today.
- NationalistROC, on 12/31/2007, -22/+17This is why we all over the world love you Americans and Europeans! Westerners are awesome!
- Derrekito, on 12/31/2007, -13/+20It simply boggles my mind to think what would have happened without the dark ages and other instances in history caused by religious oppression (religion doing the oppressing).
- iticu, on 12/31/2007, -6/+13We'd probably still be pretty un-advanced, no matter what you think.
- katenga, on 01/01/2008, -4/+3It wasn't religion it was people claiming that what they were doing was FOR their religion...
- theodenking, on 12/31/2007, -0/+25Only, the lake mentioned isn't in Russia, it's in Kyrgyzstan. Which is quite far away from Russia really.
So yeah, this article isn't off to a good start as far as accuracy goes.- BabyWookie, on 12/31/2007, -3/+7Russia? USSR? It's all the same to the ignorant ones.
- darkwing81, on 01/01/2008, -2/+3also it says they found traces of Christianity. 2500 years ago? thats quite a find.
- Mattyandco, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2No, it said that they found traces of Christianity in the region (the lake in general), not in the settlement proper. And they didn't give a date to that particular find (or the traces of Islam.)
- ssravp, on 01/01/2008, -1/+1You do realize that Kyrgyzstan was once part of the former Soviet Union don't you?
- Antart, on 01/02/2008, -1/+0Calling Kyrgyzstan and other ex-Soviet countries "Russia" is like calling Pakistan "England"...
- BabyWookie, on 12/31/2007, -0/+19Yeah. I'm sure they had space travel and *****.
- yodaj007, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6That's what the bronze cauldron was for. Originally it was a cone at the top of the rocket, but the rocket crashed. Now it looks like a cauldron.
- LeeSoong, on 12/31/2007, -0/+2Of course, that is why the left . . .
- KaiSe7eN, on 12/31/2007, -19/+4Mmm.....Cool,

- andyakadum, on 12/31/2007, -7/+2thats really gay.
- dualscreenman, on 12/31/2007, -8/+4Waitaminute... that makes sense. The joke would be "In Soviet Russia, you flood lake". Y'know, since it's a Russian *reversal* joke?
- LeeSoong, on 12/31/2007, -4/+1In Soviet Russia, the U.S.S.R. Floods YOU.
( or USSR floods lake, since they were found under water.)- peranadigital, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2Anytime you need to explain your joke it was probably better left unsaid.

- TrinitronX, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2In soviet Russia, something which normally receives the action actually performs that same action to you!
- bubs, on 12/31/2007, -1/+81Pictures would be nice.
- mykotron, on 12/31/2007, -4/+26yeah WTF???? whenever there is ANY finding like this there are NO pictures......??????? Remember that frozen hairy mamoth??? PICTURES????? remember the skeleton of the damn giant 13 ft tall gorilla??? PICTURES???? Really now. WHY are there no pictures? There is no reason why there shouldn't be pictures along with this.
- mykotron, on 12/31/2007, -6/+3Also, how is this news item filed under "HEATH" WTF? And you look for a name of the reporter and all you see is "ANI".
What is an ANI? No last name? Is he like prince? Yahoo is really on the ball aren't they? - SpoonThe, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6ANI = Asian News International (http://www.aniin.com/). There's a link to it next to the "reporter's name".

RobotBuddha, I tip my hat to you.

- Icecream, on 12/31/2007, -0/+32There are so many articles I read that I like this, where I would love some pictures.
- stukdog, on 12/31/2007, -0/+30Usually when there are no pictures I can't help but think, "They must be trying to make it sound cooler than it really is."
It reminds me of the guy at work who keeps saying, "I really ought to set you up with my niece." She says she's "real good looking" but always seems to "forget" the pictures.- LeeSoong, on 12/31/2007, -0/+2Ah, lake diving can be muddy , dark, and murky.
To get good pictures they would need to retrieve the items and clean them up,
that takes time.- andrewry, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Well, the article insinuates that some were already brought up, like when the mentioned the bronze cauldron.

- vertinox, on 12/31/2007, -2/+10Unless you need to find an address on Peachtree Street. ;)
(Sorry, you'd have to have lived there to understand this one)- subsistenc3, on 12/31/2007, -0/+1Are there a bunch of streets called Peachtree?
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/31/2007, -4/+10It's not legendary either.

- sirdaz, on 12/31/2007, -1/+9I looked at the article for pictures.. there's no pictures. I want pictures!
- Kyan, on 12/31/2007, -2/+25Buried for inaccuracy. This is in Kyrgyzstan not Russia.
But the discovery is very cool!- PalIkas, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Kyan you are only partialy right... It is modern day kyrgyzstan BUT..............
2500 years ago it was neither Russia or Kyrgyzstan.... .
It most likely had more to do with the Scythians but even thats not sure.... let science do it's job- Kyan, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but TODAY it is in Kyrgyzstan. And they found it today. If you want to visit, you don't book a flight wither ancient Scythia or Russia. You book a flight to Kyrgyzstan.
I mean no-one is going to say ruins in Munich are in the Holy Roman Empire, so I don't see your point.
- Kyan, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Yeah, but TODAY it is in Kyrgyzstan. And they found it today. If you want to visit, you don't book a flight wither ancient Scythia or Russia. You book a flight to Kyrgyzstan.

- Mattyandco, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1That's why there's no pics, they haven't found a research camera yet.
- EugineMW, on 12/31/2007, -17/+6Further proof that the world didn't begin with Adam and Eve.
- R3j3ct, on 12/31/2007, -1/+12How so? not that I believe the world started with Adam and Eve, but this in no way disproves that theory
- PoliceAtaque, on 12/31/2007, -1/+10Rome and Greece are over 2500 years old, so this hardly proves or disproves anything related to Adam and Eve.
- musntSurfatWork, on 12/31/2007, -3/+6If the world did begin with adam and eve, why the raised eyebrows today if we sleep with our cousins?
- agimat, on 01/01/2008, -0/+4You just can''t help and bring that into this topic can you?
- Rikkochet, on 12/31/2007, -1/+21The amount of awesome, forgotten cities and remnants of extinct civilizations coming out of Russia these past few years is staggering. I think we forget that Russia wasn't just a barren, unpopulated wasteland while Egypt and Rome rose and fell. They got so little attention from modern archaeology due to the iron curtain, but now things are starting to trickle out and they're just terrific.
- Kyan, on 12/31/2007, -6/+5Did you even read my comment above? This has NOTHING TO DO WITH RUSSIA. Except for Russian researchers perhaps, but even during the USSR, this was Kyrgyzstan.

- silver99, on 12/31/2007, -7/+10Looking at this article, it says that it found traces of Christianity there? How could they find traces Christianity in an 2500 year old civilization when Christianity isn't even that old? OOPS!!!
- hayzeus, on 12/31/2007, -0/+13They were referring to the region itself, not the site specifically. It was a cultural crossroads at one time.
- SQLserver, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7well... The civilization could have started around 500 BC and collapsed after Christianity.
- PalIkas, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Archeology is laid down in layers....... the deeper you dig, the farther back in time you go.....
so it could even be the same spot just different layer.... - darkwing81, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1i thought i was the only one to catch that. . .u beat me to it
- mickeyknoxxx, on 12/31/2007, -3/+4Bow Down to the RPG nerds like myself, who new this all along. :)
Oh...and pics, seriously.- VaporBro, on 12/31/2007, -2/+4You really must not be that into RPGs...
You spelled "knew" wrong.
RPG boys read a lot yeah? - BabyWookie, on 12/31/2007, -1/+5WTF does this have to do with rocket launchers?

- sbgskl, on 12/31/2007, -2/+3News source is dodgey, will wait until it's reported in a peer-reviewed anthro/archaeology journal. Or even CNN would be better. Sorry, but with the state of Russian news today, there's little middle-ground between fascist PR "news" and the profitable tabloids. This seems mostly the latter.
- Onestone, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1CNN ain't much better either.
- sfdude00, on 12/31/2007, -5/+13quick question...
Why did they build the city underwater ? Did they run out of land ?- mickeyknoxxx, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8You just made me do the Lewis Black face.
- darkwing81, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2i hope, for the sake of mankind, that you are joking.
- D3koy, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2One word: BIOSHOCK!!!
- hyaena, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9Here's an interesting article on Wikipedia about the origin of the lake covering this civilization
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Issyk_Kul#The_Legend_ ... - Jalh, on 12/31/2007, -6/+1i tough the link will take me to englishrussia . com :S
- squegie, on 12/31/2007, -7/+3I thought we had discovered some secret underground settlement -- like a domed city from SeaQuest. Then, the next line was "Russian 2500 yr old." and I thought that a 2500 year old person was living there. Hopefully, that guy was smart and invested a penny somewhere in the last several centuries. That's probably how he funded the underground colony.
- VaporBro, on 12/31/2007, -1/+21"Other findings included...self-sharpening daggers"
Now THAT'S ***** advanced!- Majhem, on 01/01/2008, -0/+0I like the metallurgy techniques that we can only do now with the utilisation of inert gases.
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2Those are just sheaths with pieces of metal inside. Every time you pull the dagger out, it scrapes against the metal and sharpens.
- dualaudi, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3can anyone find some cool pictures about this?
- Tsujigiri, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5Best part about this find is an excerpt about the legend of the lake's creation found on Wikipedia for the lake...
"In pre-Islamic legend, the king of the Ossounes had donkey's ears. He would hide them, and order each of his barbers killed to hide his secret. One barber yelled the secret into a well, but he didn't cover the well after. The well water rose and flooded the kingdom. The kingdom is today under the waters of Issyk-Kul. This is how the lake was formed, so legend says. Other legends say that four drowned cities lie at the bottom of the lake; in fact, substantial archaeological finds have been made in shallow waters of the lake." - DamonDog, on 12/31/2007, -7/+2"Archaeologists found traces of many religions here-Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam."
They found 2,500 year old Christian traces... ?- RobotBuddha, on 12/31/2007, -0/+3Just in the region, not the site itself.
- BlueSkyfish, on 01/01/2008, -0/+2That means the city lasted for at least 500 years.

- Dhalsim007, on 12/31/2007, -5/+4Al Gore is somewhere going "I TOLD YOU SO!!!" ... He's "suuuper serial" about global warming, even 2000 years ago.

- xSEED, on 12/31/2007, -1/+3anyone who speaks ill of others are likely in worse situations themselves. for example fat as hell
- EpicSelekta, on 12/31/2007, -8/+1This is for sure inaccurate. If this IS from 2500 years ago, how on earth are there traces of Islam? Mohammad was born over 1000 years after that. Jesus was born 500 years after that. And by that point, I don't think anyone believed in the teachings of Zoroaster. With no pics, it sounds like a bogus article.
- PalIkas, on 01/01/2008, -3/+2Another one that knows dick about archioloy....... The infiormation
- FattyCorpuscle, on 12/31/2007, -8/+3Only video I could find of this place. Short but you can see that bronze cauldron. Amazing stuff...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0719DxMOUY- MasterRex, on 01/01/2008, -0/+4I'm pretty sure I hate you. Not only did you get my hopes up, but you insulted me by not even offering the original Rick'Roll. That's blasphemy.
- crazywarthog, on 12/31/2007, -3/+3Clearly they must have polluted the atmosphere and caused a climate change. Proof Al Gore is right !!!
- PalIkas, on 01/01/2008, -0/+3I can't believe how many people don't get it... It's simple..... the Archeology is in layers....
The deeper you dig the further back you go.. So yes a Christian site could exist ON TOP of older finds
but not the other way around... or that would mean the site had been disturbed - yujie, on 01/01/2008, -1/+1Is that where they find the Giant Enemy Crabs?

- rodgerdodger5, on 01/01/2008, -0/+5Pic of a relic here. Pretty amazing work. Wouldn't mind finding something like that while I was diving.
http://english.pravda.ru/science/tech/15-08-2006/8 ... - rodgerdodger5, on 01/01/2008, -0/+1Apparently, some of these relics come from Scythian burial mounds at the bottom of the lake. You can find quite a few pictures with a Google image search for Scythian burial mounds.
