- bubs, on 12/31/2007, -1/+82Pictures would be nice.
- BarleyWind, on 12/31/2007, -38/+109Amusingly this civilization is more advanced than Russia is today.
- kevisazombie, on 12/31/2007, -1/+39Pics or its not underwater.
- Icecream, on 12/31/2007, -0/+32There are so many articles I read that I like this, where I would love some pictures.
- BlackStrain, on 12/31/2007, -9/+40It's the legendary lost city of Atlanta!
- stukdog, on 12/31/2007, -0/+30Usually when there are no pictures I can't help but think, "They must be trying to make it sound cooler than it really is."
It reminds me of the guy at work who keeps saying, "I really ought to set you up with my niece." She says she's "real good looking" but always seems to "forget" the pictures. - BlackStrain, on 12/31/2007, -1/+30Not a Futurama fan I take it.
- theodenking, on 12/31/2007, -0/+25Only, the lake mentioned isn't in Russia, it's in Kyrgyzstan. Which is quite far away from Russia really.
So yeah, this article isn't off to a good start as far as accuracy goes. - Kyan, on 12/31/2007, -2/+25Buried for inaccuracy. This is in Kyrgyzstan not Russia.
But the discovery is very cool! - luet, on 12/31/2007, -2/+24jesus christ... please don't try any soviet russia jokes ever again
- mykotron, on 12/31/2007, -4/+26yeah WTF???? whenever there is ANY finding like this there are NO pictures......??????? Remember that frozen hairy mamoth??? PICTURES????? remember the skeleton of the damn giant 13 ft tall gorilla??? PICTURES???? Really now. WHY are there no pictures? There is no reason why there shouldn't be pictures along with this.
- redmaxx, on 12/31/2007, -0/+21First you need to find the Stargate.
- VaporBro, on 12/31/2007, -1/+21"Other findings included...self-sharpening daggers"
Now THAT'S ***** advanced! - Rikkochet, on 12/31/2007, -1/+21The amount of awesome, forgotten cities and remnants of extinct civilizations coming out of Russia these past few years is staggering. I think we forget that Russia wasn't just a barren, unpopulated wasteland while Egypt and Rome rose and fell. They got so little attention from modern archaeology due to the iron curtain, but now things are starting to trickle out and they're just terrific.
- BabyWookie, on 12/31/2007, -0/+19Yeah. I'm sure they had space travel and *****.
- kindrobot, on 12/31/2007, -2/+19Ron Paul.
- Frnnkdlxx, on 12/31/2007, -0/+16No lasers? Jeeps? Sex Toys? THEY'RE NOT ADVAAANCED!!! They didn't even have cannabalized human remains like we do today! PFFFTTTT!!!
- hayzeus, on 12/31/2007, -0/+13They were referring to the region itself, not the site specifically. It was a cultural crossroads at one time.
- stukdog, on 12/31/2007, -8/+20I was in Atlanta last week. It's not lost.
- mickeyknoxxx, on 12/31/2007, -3/+15uneducated insult referring to you as the cancer that is killing digg.
- R3j3ct, on 12/31/2007, -1/+12How so? not that I believe the world started with Adam and Eve, but this in no way disproves that theory
- xyzunit, on 12/31/2007, -2/+12silly pun involving use of the word 'cold' or any related synonym
- nshepp, on 12/31/2007, -5/+15Rapture...?
- RobotBuddha, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9At this point I think I've come to expect that new discoveries with a high potential for amazing visuals will be text only by default.
- PoliceAtaque, on 12/31/2007, -1/+10Rome and Greece are over 2500 years old, so this hardly proves or disproves anything related to Adam and Eve.
- hyaena, on 12/31/2007, -0/+9Here's an interesting article on Wikipedia about the origin of the lake covering this civilization
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Issyk_Kul#The_Legend_ ... - mickeyknoxxx, on 12/31/2007, -0/+8You just made me do the Lewis Black face.
- vertinox, on 12/31/2007, -2/+10Unless you need to find an address on Peachtree Street. ;)
(Sorry, you'd have to have lived there to understand this one) - sirdaz, on 12/31/2007, -1/+9I looked at the article for pictures.. there's no pictures. I want pictures!
- sfdude00, on 12/31/2007, -5/+13quick question...
Why did they build the city underwater ? Did they run out of land ? - Derrekito, on 12/31/2007, -13/+20It simply boggles my mind to think what would have happened without the dark ages and other instances in history caused by religious oppression (religion doing the oppressing).
- suriyou, on 12/31/2007, -0/+7Someone needs to limit their use of question marks.
- BlackStrain, on 12/31/2007, -1/+8It will be once it's moved offshore.
- iticu, on 12/31/2007, -6/+13We'd probably still be pretty un-advanced, no matter what you think.
- SpoonThe, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6ANI = Asian News International (http://www.aniin.com/). There's a link to it next to the "reporter's name".
- SiNN4R, on 12/31/2007, -7/+13joke comment.
- yodaj007, on 12/31/2007, -0/+6That's what the bronze cauldron was for. Originally it was a cone at the top of the rocket, but the rocket crashed. Now it looks like a cauldron.
- yojiffyskippy, on 12/31/2007, -4/+10It's not legendary either.
- PalIkas, on 12/31/2007, -1/+6Kyan you are only partialy right... It is modern day kyrgyzstan BUT..............
2500 years ago it was neither Russia or Kyrgyzstan.... .
It most likely had more to do with the scythians but even thats not sure.... let science do it's job - Tsujigiri, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5Best part about this find is an excerpt about the legend of the lake's creation found on Wikipedia for the lake...
"In pre-Islamic legend, the king of the Ossounes had donkey's ears. He would hide them, and order each of his barbers killed to hide his secret. One barber yelled the secret into a well, but he didn't cover the well after. The well water rose and flooded the kingdom. The kingdom is today under the waters of Issyk-Kul. This is how the lake was formed, so legend says. Other legends say that four drowned cities lie at the bottom of the lake; in fact, substantial archaeological finds have been made in shallow waters of the lake." - robotto, on 12/31/2007, -3/+8Kyrgyz is such a wicked name.
- rodgerdodger5, on 01/01/2008, -0/+5Pic of a relic here. Pretty amazing work. Wouldn't mind finding something like that while I was diving.
http://english.pravda.ru/science/tech/15-08-2006/8 ... - camiloteram, on 12/31/2007, -17/+22In soviet russia, these jokes suck!
- LeeSoong, on 12/31/2007, -0/+5Gettin' one of them Z.P.M.s working . . .
- SQLserver, on 12/31/2007, -2/+7well... The civilization could have started around 500 BC and collapsed after Christianity.
- PalIkas, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Archeology is laid down in layers....... the deeper you dig, the farther back in time you go.....
so it could even be the same spot just different layer.... - Seifey, on 01/01/2008, -0/+4Kyan you are only partialy right... It is modern day kyrgyzstan BUT..............
2500 years ago it was neither Russia or Kyrgyzstan.... .
It most likely had more to do with the scythians but even thats not sure.... let science do it's job - Antares29, on 12/31/2007, -0/+4Under Cheyenne Mountain, man. What's step 2?
- BabyWookie, on 12/31/2007, -3/+7Russia? USSR? It's all the same to the ignorant ones.
- MasterRex, on 01/01/2008, -0/+4I'm pretty sure I hate you. Not only did you get my hopes up, but you insulted me by not even offering the original Rick'Roll. That's blasphemy.
