Magic marker monitors malicious movements
eurekalert.org — Monitoring troop movements could be made much easier with the introduction of a luminous chemical which works like a gigantic magic marker. German chemical company, Lanxess, have developed a product called Rapidogen, which is invisible to the naked eye, but glows under UV light.

- OnlyShawn, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5yeah...but if you get everyone marking with THAT, they just go to sleep afterwards. not very good for winning a war.

- mikewitt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Cool idea, but there seems like ther are two problems:
1) That article had to be written by a a fifth grader who just learned about commas.
2) This seems a little Agent-Orange-esque. They spray an undisclosed chemical all over an area to make things more visible (or at least under UV light), with unknown health risks involved.
Just my two cents - jamison18, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5kinda cool- except the've been using stuff like this for 15 years in the handstamps at disneyland and places like that
- hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Now if only we could get enemy troops to mark the trees with them...
- choicetoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Always avoid alliteration.
- Denelson83, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2@choicetoes
Of course, that particular comment isn't alliteration, but assonance. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10No, that's alliteration. Assonance has to do with vowel sounds within a word. Alliteration is the commencement (i.e. starting a word) of two or more words in a group of words with the same letter.
Assonance:
Spelling dwelling. Door pour. Knock Talk. Drive hive.
Specifically, assonance is essentially vowel rhyme in the stressed syllable of a word. - stryker2you, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@NSMike
You just made my head explode - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Assonance, shmassonance...

I like the title. - apolloae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sally sells seashells by the sea shore? What?
- CaesarBlue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0These seems like a really bad idea. Lets mark our troops so the enemy can see exactly where they are now, and exactly where they are moving. No real way to limit who can see the troop movement. Another waste of money, that could have gone into some more useful R&D.
- ScionAltera, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They're not going to mark the troops with it, they spray the terrain ahead of time. Enemy troops walking across it would not be marked with the stuff and would appear as dark spots on the otherwise glowing terrain.
Making our own troops glow is obviously a bad idea. :P - CaesarBlue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Should have read the article first. My bad.

- Galaeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't know about you guys, I be skiddish about any german chemicals sprayed on our troops.
Kidding ofcourse!- mikewitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why should you be kidding? (German part?) In all seriousness, who knows what kind of health risks this could entail. While it's not supposed to be sprayed on the troops, neither was agent orange, but the health consequences nevertheless happened.
So what if the chemicals are german?

when I read the title the thought that came to my mind was
great, magic markers can now tell if you're drawing a big penis on
the bathroom wall and report it..- Jun168, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You're a giant retard.
- samesong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dugg for the alliteration.
