- borez, on 12/19/2008, -1/+285I'm a little confused about the title of your submission.
Please explain. - reyalp, on 12/18/2008, -6/+147Looks like an average summer in Texas/Oklahoma. :D

This is what happens if you pull God's finger - vroom101, on 12/19/2008, -3/+67The first few syllables of my DIGG title are a play on the word "mammatus" (as in mammatus cloud).

- PeterBassett, on 12/19/2008, -3/+43A nice shot, but composited together from other photographs. there is a very obvious horizontal join in the clouds in the high res shot.
Still, very nice though. - vroom101, on 12/19/2008, -3/+39http://digg.com/general_sciences/Ma_mam_ma_mam_Ooo ...
- EmmanuelGoldstn, on 12/19/2008, -1/+26It wasn't all that clear, but I think the story title is referring to the fact that there are Mammatus clouds in the picture.

Do you know what that's for?
I guess not. - MrGretsch, on 12/19/2008, -1/+25what, you get a comment with a gallon of space around it?
- DeadpoolSA, on 12/19/2008, -2/+23Gozer the Gozerian's arrival is imminent.
- Renostyle, on 12/19/2008, -3/+21I wanted to bury this for the ridiculous title, but damn that's badass.
- borez, on 12/19/2008, -0/+18OK, all cleared up.
- thescimitar, on 12/19/2008, -0/+17I went to a lecture recently about photography and realism, and the impact that "hyper-reality" has on our expectations around nature. It was really quite excellent, and I think it summed up why many of us (particularly photographers) have a problem with HDR and hyper-real photo illustration. The basic premise is that images like this are beginning to make us see reality and nature itself as not living up to our aesthetic expectations.
Sure, there are lots of instances where the world might look like this, and maybe photographers get there to catch them, but more often than not, it's the result of a lot of post and the resulting image doesn't even remotely resemble the actual event.
At a very basic level, think about what we're saying (conceptually) when we increase the contract, increase the color gain, etc; we're basically saying "real life isn't good enough for this photograph." Film had a lot to do with this behavior, with its inherent contrast and extreme color, but it is kind of running away from us now. Unfortunate too, because digital capture devices are getting a lot of dynamic range and are remarkably capable of reproducing a scene the way we perceive it, rather than this filmic, warm-tone, ultra-contrasty existence that we've convinced ourselves of.
Anyway, that's just one take on people's issues with HDR. Take if for what you will~ - kubedawg, on 12/19/2008, -3/+19Yeah no kidding. That's when I open my back door, grab a beer, my lawn chair, sit on the deck and feel the cool breeze as the storm passes by.
- diizy, on 12/19/2008, -4/+19vroom101! where is the source! where can i see similar images, where is this? I'm so lost without your initial informative post!!
- afidler, on 12/19/2008, -6/+21Please, keep your sexual endeavors to yourself.
- keithjinternet, on 12/19/2008, -2/+16I live in New York. We take cabs everywhere.
- psisar, on 12/19/2008, -0/+14Photomerge fail?
- dougbot, on 07/14/2009, -0/+14You sure? Still looks pretty cloudy.
- MSRez, on 12/19/2008, -0/+13Yeah, looks like it's been sharpened a lot. I'm thinking it might have been stitched together as well as there are a few seams in the middle of the clouds and across the field in the foreground. Ah well, still a great shot.
- enzyte, on 12/19/2008, -0/+12Oooh, ahhh, that's how it always starts. Then later there's running and screaming.
- jm1234567890, on 12/19/2008, -6/+17Unfortunately it is a photoshop as you can see a divider line at the bottom of the clouds.
- ayeroxor, on 12/19/2008, -2/+12In a computer.
- matthughes, on 12/19/2008, -0/+9showing your ignorance...love it when people are open-minded to everything besides the fact that not everyone in tx is a moron.
- EthylAdded, on 12/19/2008, -0/+9Check the road, looks more like bad stitching of multiple shots.
- crowbarred, on 12/19/2008, -7/+15something wicked this way comes
- ryelli, on 12/19/2008, -0/+8Yeah, I call shopped too. I'm looking outside right now and that is totally NOT what it looks like!
- 1980Tim, on 12/19/2008, -1/+9Oklahoma and Texas suck because they have thunderstorms?
I love thunderstorms, sleeping during a thunderstorm is one of the most relaxing things ever. - Ockniel, on 12/19/2008, -0/+8Don't mess with Texas, we'll find you.
- zip000, on 12/19/2008, -0/+7How did you know that I am a grammar Nazi, Taco?
Have you been following my diggs?
How flattering. - Dalif, on 12/19/2008, -0/+7I had a gander at it, and it did look like a stichjob gone slightly awry. The image is amazing, but I guess if you wanted it as a backdrop for a dual monitor setup, the stitches would likely show. Now that I've read your comments, the thought of something being removed from the image makes sense as well. The clouds def. has a stitch line tho.
- d1a1s1, on 12/19/2008, -0/+7Those lines are all over that pic, not just the clouds. Look in the grass as well.
- inactive, on 12/19/2008, -7/+13Mother nature is the most awesome :o
- vroom101, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6Based on the following photo and its title ("Supercell 032807-1redo") and its description ("A historical day on 3-28-07. This was taken near Hollyoke, CO.") ...

... the submitted photo, which has a simliar Flickr title -- see http://flickr.com/photos/yhpargotohp_chrisfleharty ... -- may have been snapped near Hollyoke, Colorado, USA -- but this is just a guess. Bottom line: We need to hear from the photographer. - Scruffo, on 12/19/2008, -1/+7I found a new desktop background.
- benbrooks101, on 12/19/2008, -1/+7The only reason it didn't make my wallpaper was because of the visible stitching between the images.
It's a nice shot but poorly put together for high-res use. - Weip, on 12/19/2008, -1/+7other pic from his flickr account :
http://flickr.com/photos/yhpargotohp_chrisfleharty ... - pyrofx, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6Maybe some really bad cutting and pasting to hide some garbage in the foreground.
- apackofmonkeys, on 12/19/2008, -2/+8I assumed it was the sound of somebody losing their bodily functions. Other than that, I've not a clue.
- Mujokan, on 12/19/2008, -0/+6Good ol' vroom, thanks for a bit more edjication. :D
- sasshole, on 12/19/2008, -1/+7i'm trying to figure out if you intentionally meant "your" instead of "you're" because you like being ironic/annoying or if you're just unbearably tedious and stupid
- cddict1, on 12/19/2008, -0/+5provided you know how to use it.
- flapanthers87, on 12/19/2008, -0/+5The picture is nice but WTF is the submitter talking about in the title?
- kinseyincanada, on 12/19/2008, -1/+6well arn't you clever
- inactive, on 12/20/2008, -0/+5What is the actual "play on words?" It doesn't make any sense, much like your goat posts.
- Misogyny, on 12/19/2008, -1/+6I swear somebody could post a shot of a white wall, and people would still be blathering about how it's obviously HDR, but that's it's an okay shot despite of that.
- hagfish70, on 12/19/2008, -1/+6Ma-mam-ma-mam-Oooooooh? No. Title = FAIL!
- honestmonkey, on 12/19/2008, -1/+6I agree with pyrofx. It looks as if they removed something in the foreground, perhaps a vehicle or something else at the side of the road. It didn't look to me like the clouds were stitched, tho.
