MIT Scientists Develop Virus-Powered, Cell-Sized Batteries
tgdaily.com — Miniature devices of the future could be powered by tiny new batteries that are about half the size of a human cell. Researchers from MIT have come up with an idea to leverage characteristics of viruses to built small power sources that one day could supply the smallest electronics with electricity.

- MarkusX, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Nothing seems to be impossible to achieve, if you can make a micro battery powered by a virus.
(I think if you look closely at that chop stick, you can see the virus ;-))) - sarafina42, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5When do these MIT scientists sleep? I am hearing about their amazing discoveries every few days!
- Murdats, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4MIT developed a treatment that removed the need for sleep years ago :P
- directrix13, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1MIT has discovered the concept of comprising an entity made up of multiple people.
- AgentVladimir, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4I heard they're going to release the virus onto MBTA trains. You know, as payback.
- hypogenic, on 08/21/2008, -0/+0With every new invention I'm thinking about how it can be used to create Strogg. I think we will succeed pretty soon.
- Residents, on 08/21/2008, -0/+14Oh you broke your battery, sorry, you got aids.
- lenninct, on 08/21/2008, -2/+1alternative power source, hurry someone call Al Gore and give him the news!!!!
- PatoLucas, on 08/21/2008, -6/+2Al Gore is reported to be fap, fap, fap after hearing this.
Yeah, I know, bad joke, but I wanted to do it anyway.
Now bury me please - tweedius, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Interesting article, I just wish that such a technical article could be presented without such poor English.
- protodon, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1MIT might as well be a science fiction novel because all of it's research will be supplanted by something else before it even comes to market. Not that MIT stuff ever comes to market. It's like me making random useful things in my basement but sorry guys no one else can ever use it.
- AndrewMoyer, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1I've got a bad case of Energizerbunnyitis, and they say its incurable... in fact, it keeps going and going... :-(
- etx313, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Great work! The future of our country depends on things like this, Seems like it's the only thing we can do right anymore.
- ericthegreat, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2"characteristics of viruses to built small power sources"
It's so hard to take some of these science/blog sites seriously when there's obviously no editing process. - veeracs, on 08/21/2008, -0/+0Can the virus survive heat!
- directrix13, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Is it me, or does this article seem to imply that the virus is just used for intricate wiring tasks. The description doesn't seem to talk about the virus "powering" anything.
- johnsna2, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3I see this turning into "I am Legend".
- Techx4, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1don't worry will smith will save us
- Andrwmorph, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2I have a buddy who goes to MIT. The students there really love their acid.
- Arkphyre, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Just hope it doesn't break open and give you a face full of viral goodies.
