- FearFactory, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its 2006. Why are people still testing on rats, why don't we test on humans?
- mistshadow2k4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To those who said "duh" here's my story - for the last three weeks I've been sleeping 4 to 6 hours a night. I knew I was getting cranky, but so what? When I got in the car to go get my husband & I dinner two nights ago, I suddenly couldn't remember how to turn the headlights on. No kidding. So for the last two nights I've been catching up on my sleep, never mind how much time it might cost me. So, if you read this, consider yourself forewarned; loss of sleep can impair you on the simplest things, in ways you may not have predicted.
- dootisterhans, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The point of the experiment was not necessarily to determine the end result of sleep deprivation, but to find which functions were impeded. Understanding why a lack of sleep causes impaired performance could lead to improved teaching methods and memory aids for people operating under the stress of limited sleep.
Did everyone who said “duh” know that lack of sleep affects the hippocampus? - GloriousNight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Losing sleep and being tired impares your abilty, no S. No Digg."
For real. Eating McDonald's makes you fat, voting for Bush makes you a sucker, and Windows has security holes. Any more obvious stuff you wanna submit to Digg?"
Not to mention that losing sleep makes you spell "impair" and "ability" incorrectly. - settsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I knew it!
When they take naps away after preschool, they're robbing you of your best learning retention method!
BRING BACK NAPS!!! - BrowserBabe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As someone who hasn't gotten much sleep in the last few weeks I was almost too tired to even read this article. I use to get by on 5 hrs of sleep, but these days I actually have to force myself to go to bed earlier. ( I never said it worked...especially when I can't seem stop browsing Digg) Perhaps after reading this article I would try ....to ....get...more....sleeee ......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......lol Digg! ; )
- grizwald, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how can you remember how to get to a NEW destination?
- zamecca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what is this 'sleep' you talk of?
- Slimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1" I suddenly couldn't remember how to turn the headlights on."
The real DUH isn't that sleep deprivation impedes man's ability to get to new places...
it's that women can't drive?? - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1See, I knew that sleep was good for you. Now I can feel better sleeping late with the greyhounds on the weekend. And hitting the snooze button during the week. I'm not oversleeping, I'm improving my performance at work.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm soo tired right now...

That sucks... note to self... - multifaceted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Am I think only one that doesn't like the idea of being compared to a rat? Test on humans already. If some guy will volunteer to let so cops test a new teaser on him someone will agree to get paid for this stuff.
As someone that has a bad case of insomnia I already know this stuff. - jagnum1fan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0must sleep...
can't stop reading Digg articles...
What irony... - rabidchipmnk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought that it was already well-known that sleep-deprivation isn't "healthy".
Ah well, just more validation for me to be taking naps. - NGNR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And this whole time I thought it was from sitting too long in front of the PC.
Oh well, better get some sleep than. - apache2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meh, I might believe it, but no effects on me.
I am a 4.2 GPA student and I average 5 hours of sleep a night, and I still feel great most of the time.
So bleh. - spinoza, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have an 8mb sleep cache.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Losing sleep and being tired impares your abilty, no S. No Digg."
For real. Eating McDonald's makes you fat, voting for Bush makes you a sucker, and Windows has security holes. Any more obvious stuff you wanna submit to Digg? - splatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was a little skeptical of the article due to the fact that no authorship was provided other than "American Physiological Society." No credentials. Nothing.
So after some sleuthing to determine its legitimacy, I found this: http://www.the-aps.org/press/journal/06/2.htm
That link goes to the actual article from the official website of the foundation that sponsored it. - techbuzz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not all sleep is the same. Dreams and dreaming (mostly during REM sleep) play an important part in the quality of sleep.
http://www.brilliantdreams.com (pops) - Latentk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aw man, I am lucky if I give myself more then 7 hours of sleep most nights. I constantly subject myself to a lack of sleep purposely, I dont know why. I really need to work on that.
- heidi99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why is everyone calling everyone dumb or saying that you can't drive or he can't drive?? Shut up. I got 4 hours of sleep last night and i'm falling asleep reading this crap. The other night i got 9 hours of sleep and i accomplished a lot of stuff that i've been putting off. So yes, sleep deprivation does affect your abilities.
- LogicalMind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I only sleep a few hours a night and I don't buy into this "forgetting how to do new things" nonsense. I don't forget new things I learn. Now how do I submit this thing....???
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Losing sleep undoes the rejuvenating effects"
Um. No *****. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0+Digg
For all you whiners. - hcetrepus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0The "whiners" know what they're talking about. Just like you can talk about how great the article is in the comments, the whiners can talk about how crappy it is. Way to go, buttwipes.
Whiners suck, period. - panic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Cigarettes can cause lung cancer"
No Digg - bigbbri, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I have Navagation! No Digg!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Wow. I love how stupid people like to give negative ratings to comments that make them sound stupid. Too bad their own story makes them sound stupid. How about you stop censoring comments on Digg, huh? The "whiners" know what they're talking about. Just like you can talk about how great the article is in the comments, the whiners can talk about how crappy it is. Way to go, buttwipes.

- gothicgeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I'm not even going to read the story, not only does this sound lame. It is incredibly lame, that it is on the front page after 22 hours with only 34 diggs.
- Baddox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0OK, this is lame. Next up: "Sex linked to Pregnancy!"
- djdole, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0No kidding.
No digg.
(Although college would be the paradox then...kinda...) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0"Losing sleep and being tired impares your abilty, no S. No Digg."

What is Digg?
