- blubolt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This story is actually 3 years old. (thank you old internet pages) The phenomenon happened in 2002. But Mars is still impressivly Bright and visible in the evening sky in the east at about 9:00 pm. If you can get to dark sky areas away from city lights you will see much much more than Mars. ROAD TRIP!!!!
- Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Didn't they say the exact same thing about Mars coming "unusually close" to use earlier this year, and that it would be the size of a full moon?"
That was bs, just a rumor, it did come close, but it will never be as big as the moon. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't they say the exact same thing about Mars coming "unusually close" to use earlier this year, and that it would be the size of a full moon?
They also said it the year before that, as well... - Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Look to the east, here is a link that has a nice little map:
http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2005/27may_approachingmars.htm - savmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Article doesn't tell where in the sky to look for us non-astronomers. It says "glow above the horizon" and "no celestial body in that part of the sky will be as luminous" but the author doesn't say WHAT PART of the sky! Lame!
- prairieson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Lame author that is"
Well of course it's lame, it's a CNN article and Wolf hasn't had a chance to interview astronomers to determine the event's effect of the war on terror and our national security...yet.
lol. - savmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lame author that is, good post+.
- greenbriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Mars will still seem small to the naked eye, appearing about the size of a penny seen from 620 feet away."
Wow, sounds impressive! ;-> - gamblindan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0THIS IS A LIE, mars was closest its been in thousands of years in august of 2003. You will all be dead the next time it happens. I am a highlander so I will be here to see it.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish it was, I'd love to get a picture of Mars, but if it's going to look like a penny from 620 feet away, that's just too small.
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There was a story on here about how the Red Planet is actually blue...
The red photos were taken 50 years ago. Modern equipment photograph it as blue. - kwilliam71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wrap foil around your head, wear black socks, tighty-whities and stand directly under a street lamp to make the red planet appear even closer. It works, I promise...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Mine is more captivating...obviously.
- Polaris75, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Sorry, but this is a dupe, I posted this 33 hours ago: http://www.digg.com/science/Eyes_to_the_sky_for_the_Mars_spectacular
