- cheezintern, on 12/01/2008, -0/+4it's all electromagnetic radiation, lasers started out the same way. Before the laser was invented, there was the maser, which involved microwaves.
- nikki2300dk, on 12/01/2008, -0/+2First microwaves... then infrared... then maybe eventually visible. Gotta start somewhere.
- MrColdheart, on 12/01/2008, -1/+3They are going into a direction with this new science that could revolutionize microscopes and telescopes. Imagine if there was a new type of microscope that is flat? They could make a metamaterial lens the size of a window that magnifies images.
Binoculars that look like sunglasses. - afireinside13t, on 12/01/2008, -0/+1From a paper referenced by the article:
"close to the lining of the cloak at r → R1 where r' → 0 the speed of light in the r and z directions diverges"
Does this mean that an invisibility cloak is theoretically impossible? Or is it one of those, "don't worry, all the non-relativistic stuff falls off in practice" deals? (like with fast light) - cuestbeats, on 12/02/2008, -0/+1pics or it didn't....wait a minute.

allow me to chime in. invisibility cloaks are great. they let you sneak into girls' locker rooms. they cannot see you because you are wearing an invisibility cloak. i think this is great. i feel strongly in favor of me being the first person to have this technology because i feel i am the most qualified. my qualifications include: good at keeping secrets, light on my feet and currently invisible to the world. thank you. - embryoinbloom, on 12/01/2008, -3/+2damn Romulans

read closer: the cloak "that could hide an object from a microwave beam."
microwaves aren't part of the visible spectrum...
