- nuclearpenguins, on 10/12/2007, -13/+21Mod this guy up for Monthy Python reference.
Holy crap I feel like I'm back at Slashdot... - Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I've almost choked from laughing, but just laughing so hard you cause your heart to fail seems like there has to be some sort of underlying heart problem.
- schnitzi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7ROFD!
- MiamiGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I've laughed so hard it has hurted, to the point I got a bit frightened because it felt like everything in my chest was constricting. heh. Haven't laughed that hard in a while.
- fatlip, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15ahahahahahhahah
crap, that article killed me - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Anything can be bad if it's too much, just think about it.
- dimatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The longest i've ever been in a laughing fit was for 15 minutes. It seriously scared one of my friends :D
- pwallroth, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Kind of reminds me of batman when joker tries to kill everyone with laughing gas.
- timmyt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I highly doubt that anyone could die laughing.
I searched Google for a good article on "dying laughing," and found this question/answer on Ask Yahoo. http://ask.yahoo.com/20051116.html
"It's certainly possible to die while laughing -- probably by choking on something. But we were unable to find any documented evidence of someone literally 'laughing to death.' In fact, recent research suggests laughing is actually very good for you. According to the Indiana University School of Medicine, laughing helps relax tense muscles, lowers blood pressure, and even burns calories." - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Duh, it's a nonsense germanic-like statement (catch the "git" word, you stupid git!).
- BloodyRids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh, I thought I was on digg. The technology news website.
- Dradis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12Best way to die ever.
- gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There was also a Rocket Robin Hood where the Sherrif created a suit that would tickle you until you suffocated from laughing.
- serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Alright, where's the MythBusters when we need them? Let's see it! :P
- ArthurSucks, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6That's how I want to die. Happy.
- Vortech89, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Chocolate is good and bad for you. It's good in small amounts, but isn't the best for you in large amounts. Same goes for laughing. ;)
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I can think of a few better ways.
- cheese06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wouldn't you start to realize that your laughing is hurting your body? And wouldn't your body react in a vicious way? In the end I think it would be a painful death.
- MikeEFresh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was watching "And Now for Something Completely Different" (which includes the funniest joke in the world sketch), when this story made the front page. Weird.
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Dying from too much sex would top the list. Not the STD part...oh I failed..
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've had that too!! Yesterday. After looking at a few O RLY? Owls. lmao.
When I read this article I was laughing so hard I thought I was gonna die lolz - zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2this is sort of true, i had a lung collapse after seeing Johny English and laughing too hard, imagine if too lungs collapsed? exactly
- Obsydian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5it's good only in moderation apparently.
- vaxguru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Watching Chappelle's show nearly killed me. Especially that Rick James sketch. My cousin and i were on the floor with a severe stomach ache. =P
- coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4It seems feasible, you could die from lack of oxygen to the brain, maybe an abdominal muscle contraction breaking an artery, or whatever. But it seems that only the very ill can successfully 'die laughing'
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1he could have had over stressed his heart laughing it could have exploaded from the heavy fits of air expulsion
no no wait thats just me trying to add words to make a docter sounding term - habitat2050, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm sure we've all laughed to the point where our necks get that pain in the upper area, it feels like your head it going to pop. The pressure in your head could cause an aneurysm which can often be mistaken for a heart attack.
- switchman401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As everyone knows... Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.
- Wires, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2However laughing was the cause so the sequence can be abbreviated to "died laughing". Sort of like stabbing an individual which triggers an heart attack and that subsequently kills the victim. You will still be held responsible for murder even though they did not die directly from the stab wound.
- kerants1050, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've laughed that long..., I guess the people in the story were cracking up, like falling over and cheeks turning red-type thing.
Except in the article, the thing about drying while you laugh in your sleep is pretty scary... - roostersheep, on 01/16/2009, -0/+1Interesting. I laugh a lot. The last few times I couldn't get over a joke I would laugh so hard I'd have tears in my eyes, then I would get the feeling of passing out, which scares me, so I calm down. Perhaps I have reason to be scared of that after all.
- WDot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wouldn't mind dying laughing. But then maybe those anti-social, poker faced guys in the group have a point? =P
- TheHim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you analize what happens with the body during laughter, you will come to the conclusion that it cannot kill you. Even if you were to not get enough air, you would safely pass out and reawake.
"Always trust your nervous system" - ihate2regist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1and now for something completely different
- nbx909, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5makes sense. You can breath and you pass out. In extreme cases death could happen because your diaphram (muscle that moves the lungs so that you breath) becomes 'tired' and won't contract even after you have passed out. That is very rare. Having a heart attack and laughing is probably because it is so painful that your brain become confused with all the pain signals and mistakes them as 'happy' signals.
- bmc152006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1well, at least he died happy
- clashbomb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1psht, laughing alone doesn't kill you; it's a dependent factor. It's like saying walking can kill you.... provided a truck hits you.
no dig - EtaoinShrdlu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1During the Just For Laughs festival, a friend brought me to watch the Shadoks (french cartoons of the 1960's).
After a few minutes, I was sure that I would not walk out alive from the theater, as I was laughing my brains out.
Now I'm convinced you can die of laughing!!!
http://www.google.ca/search?q=shadoks - pianoman55, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1the whole article was a joke.. lol
- stox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow! The Goodies could kill. I had fogotten all about that show. Time to get some DVD's and see if it was a good as I remember.
- mackoid101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1At least it's a fun way to die...
- kelway, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I laughed a long time once. While Michael Jackson's P.Y.T. song was playing, instead of the his "uhhhh" grunt after the breakdown part, I said the word "horse" instead.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6i'm not sure about that.. after awhile laughing starts to hurt
- zsf555, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thats not to good.. I am really funny and get cracked up on anything funny.. Die young, laughing!
- simpleblob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0According to the article, they all died of heart attack, not laughing --no?
- roxas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i thought laughing makes you happy?
- TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If your heart is bad enough in the first place I suppose you could die of farting.
Eric Wilson - rogermoore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's true. I know one of The Goodies, and his widow wrote them a letter thanking them for making his last moments happy.
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"Haven't laughed that hard in a while."
not many people have... :( -
