- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44After reading R3's comments on at least 3 stories...it's obvious they're a useless troll.
Blocked. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Manifest, I care.
- Jake2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+29Hate to be the grammar Nazi here (I'm nowhere near perfect myself) but your title should read "... kids'..." with the apostrophe after the 's'. It's plural, remember. :)
- ojk007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I agree with you, however i preferred them all on the one page.. i cbf clicking 200 links
- scheper, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18I care. It shows a degree of commitment and professionalism.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I also care. If I see poor grammar, I am usually inclined to think that the author is not that intelligent. Granted, I didn't notice the grammar mistake in the title because I saw that it was the second part of the "kids' drawings redone with skill" page, that I was too busy thinking about how cool the last one was and how awesome this might be.
- osc1882, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13What I love about these pictures is he really gets into the mind of the child that drew them. Or at lest tries very hard to.
- arcangelgabriel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Do you need a hug?
- unlimitedorb, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21One thing though, what happens if you run into copyright issues with these tiny tots? Then you'd be in real poopy. Goo Goo Gah Gah? M A...M A, coochy coochy coo...GET IN THE VAN!
- aukxsona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10most kids draw creepy stuff...which is awesome...
- ciro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12I really care too... but I care even more about non-science articles and pages getting posted in the Digg Science section. I hate to be the Science Section Nazi, but I think it's getting to the point of ridiculousness now.
- Junkyarddawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7This is kindof the inverse of the christmas special in Mad Magazine where they let kids draw what they wanted for christmas... and then gave them presents looking exactly like how they'd drawn.
Evil. The caption of the special was "Kids don't want realistic-looking presents!" - championchap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7They all look pretty faithful to the originals, but they all look kinda scary.
I'm sure they aren't supposed to be, I mean.. when i was little i drew stuff to the best of my ability.. usually Sonic the Hedgehog
Seeing at i was about 5 at the time, i hadn't been using a pencil for long.. and so the proportions were all wrong.
Oh, and just because something has scary looking teeth didn't mean it was a monster, it meant i couldn't draw teeth when i was 5.
At that age, every living thing had teeth (i didn't realise plants were alive), and so it made sense to draw them in, always. - silverj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm glad I haven't...
- echoforever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wish I had saved my scribblings. Might have been useful now.
- ameba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's coral cache.
- laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I love this *****. And of course it's not always what the child intended...it's an interpretation of what the child intended (which is what happens when anyone looks at a child's drawing)...also, it's an interesting idea that makes for some interesting work.
And it reminds me of "Monsters in My Tummy" by Roman Dirge. That's always a good thing. - JosephGoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the article is not about crappy kids artwork
- GeekedAtBirth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Gah they all look really scary....
- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey cool
This is actually where I got my Avatar when I signed up for digg
http://www.themonsterengine.com/art_U_pizza.htm - werdmath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, if thats him really getting into the kids minds. Those are some seriously messed up kids.
- hudson99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah, next I want to see "Guy's Web Site Redone with Skill"
- superbonbon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3at quick glance I read the website name as "the monster GINE" and I thought....ohhhh that ain't going to be work safe...
- GrantTheGr8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just find it ironic that you waste your time crying about people wasting your time.
- DephexTwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome, I was wondering if someone else would make that connection!
- ZechsMerquise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I met Dave a couple of years ago when he came to Ball State University to give a session on Comic book animations and photoshop tutorials. I saw him make the painting of the monster on the track and it was very impressive. He also did a batman sketch in photoshop as a demonstration and it was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen. He's a very cool guy and very interesting to talk to, knows a lot about the comic book business and the trials of being a freelance artist. Though I am more of a Marvel guy, I had a lot more respect for the DC artists after this.
- vafada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@unlimitedorb
the artist actually gives credits the kid who drew the picture, it's not like he's stealing them.
check this out
http://www.themonsterengine.com/art_M_blok.htm
you can actually see the kid's name on the redone image - finnor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i spoke with this artist for almost 2 hours after a speech at comiccon 2006. He was very helpful and im glad his art is being exposed to new audiances. and @fhwghhads, thatd be awesome.
- sock2828, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2DuggMirror didn't catch it but google cache did http://www.themonsterengine.com.nyud.net:8080/art.html
- Fhwqhgads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want to see the ones from Maddox's site done that way.
- Destined, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is it me, or did anyone else notice that that page's content is all images? *insert evil comment about submitting such pages to digg for the joy of watching them get overloaded*
Very cool idea for converting children's art, though. I know a few kids who'd love to have their art transformed. - zacksporen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing concept. It's so well done.
- moxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2That website looks like a kid designed it...
Good content on there though... - arcangelgabriel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Because God knows that no one else EVER wants to look and anything interesting or different.
Here's a thought, don't click the link there brain pan. - cjellibebi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Speaking of doing interesting things with kids' drawings, has anyone seen the video to Sting's Love Is The Seventh Wave? Basically, it has lots of animated kids' drawings.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7fQK0rzYkA - hamairon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome!!
- surfmadpig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1In many countries students learn their general education in high school. That is, the exact same level the general science courses are in college.
- hupdaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually get the pleasure to work with Dave ( http://mediasauce.com/profiles/staff_ddevries.aspx ) and let me tell you, he is one amazing guy who really loves working with kids. Also, I think that it is worth noting that he can create one heck of a comic chatacter >>
http://comicartcommunity.com/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=333
Amazing guy I tell ya'. He was actually talking to me today about how he was on here and that he had been dugg so many times. He was so excited. It's great to see a guy that Dave get recognized.
- hudson99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@xtothepowerofx:
I agree, the term nazi is way overused, although I don't think anyone meant to use it to mean "commitment & professionalism". What's usually meant is someone who is anal, authoritarian, and takes small details way too seriously.
The problem with using the term like this is not that it has nothing to do with the concept. It's that people are taking some of the worst things human beings have ever done to each other and comparing them to insignificant transgressions. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think this should have gone into the Design section.
- denadel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i'd like to see an episode of 12 oz. mouse done with 'skill'.
- aeaglenfitch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1looks like sponge bob
- FleshEater, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0There was a write up about this guy a few months ago in Rue Morgue.
- blueface, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5mirror: http://www.themonsterengine.com.nyud.net:8080/art.html
original site is slow for me... - sunchild, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How would me blocking the category affect you *****?
- aimabo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dave is FANTASTIC! He loves children and cares about the way that they see their art. It's a great experience for kids to be involved with. His work is amazing and the concept is brilliant. I just love it! I have the Monster Engine book and I LOVE reading the interviews that Dave does with the kids. Some are hilarious, and others really demonstrate what the kid is thinking or freeling at the time... which isn't always sunshine and rainbows. Great job Dave! Keep up the good work!
- xtothepowerofx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How about we stop the grammar debate, but more importantly, could we stop casually throwing the word NAZI around like it doesn't mean anything. It's a word that means a lot to a lot of people. Use of the word NAZI does NOT indicate a degree of "commitment and professionalism", in fact... just the opposite.
- solemnraven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1ANd what would happen when the server gets DiggPwnt?
- DrScott, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2More crappy childrens art work (part two): http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=irule2
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1For this one, I would have been lazy and used an image of towlie: http://www.themonsterengine.com/art_soakerhtm.htm
