- inactive, on 06/08/2009, -4/+26"According to Dr Richardson, the species increasing in number are not generally eaten."
Sadly, that fact means the solution does not seem to be market-based. We honestly need to enforce regulations and reduce our fish consumption before the oceans became devoid of commercially obtainable fish for the foreseeable future- just look at what happened to the Grand Banks cod fishery. - wontstoptalking, on 06/09/2009, -0/+17Their jelly is great on Krabby Patties.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nomura's_jellyfish
The problem with combating the jellyfish is that when they are under attack or killed, they release billions of sperm or eggs which connect in the water and attach to rocks or coral formations. when the conditions are favorable, the creatures detach from their home millions at a time and grow into more jellyfish.
The jellyfish population has become such a substantial problem for Japan that it has led the government to form a committee to combat the problem. They have been creating kill-nets to catch and destroy the jellyfish before they can do any more harm, yet this typically only results in the aforementioned survival tactic of releasing their sperm and eggs. - quaxon, on 06/09/2009, -0/+8ive been seeing TONS of these things all around the san francisco bay recently.
- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -3/+11The problem is when you go to kill jellyfish they release all of the eggs\sperm they have into the ocean which other jellyfish fertilize. So for every one you kill in a fish net you just help created thousands more.

- inactive, on 06/09/2009, -1/+5In an ideal world, the solution would be market-based, but apparently the market is too ***** stupid to realize that if things continue the way they are, there won't be any goddamn market.
