- madrigaelic, on 08/28/2008, -3/+81This is a straight rip off my story from Wired.com: http://blog.wired.com/wiredscience/2008/08/bolt-is ... I mean, the author ripped off all my quotes with no sourcing. This is totally unethical and bad journalism. Additionally, my post was already made popular on Digg Science, too: http://digg.com/other_sports/Usain_Bolt_Is_Freaky_ ... Please bury!
- Bukowsky, on 08/27/2008, -0/+35Since when did they put a curve on the 100 Meter Dash?
- XFLOP20, on 08/28/2008, -2/+22BUT...can he run Crysis?
- bodegit, on 08/28/2008, -0/+18That's not Usain Bolt either.
- kidneyd08, on 08/28/2008, -0/+16in order to run the 100 meters in 5 seconds the runner would have to avg 20 m/s or 44.7 mph...I'm gonna put my money on 5 seconds being impossible..
- Archon810, on 08/28/2008, -0/+14man, when is digg going to learn to not hyperlink dots at the end of urls?
- P1um, on 08/28/2008, -0/+13I believe I can fly, but I can't. Explain.
- P1um, on 08/28/2008, -0/+12Funfact: Running is hard.
- Archon810, on 08/28/2008, -0/+11remove the dots at the end.
- upick, on 08/27/2008, -0/+9''ability to modify and greatly enhance muscle fibre strength.''
This article sounds a bit far fetched with the theory of enhanced muscle fibres but its still interesting to know that we won't be doing 5sec anytime in this century.... - jmeeker516, on 08/28/2008, -0/+8and hopefully last. please?
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+8 No.
- Culiada, on 08/28/2008, -1/+8It's a black guy wearing Jamaican colors. Good enough!
- jlian, on 08/28/2008, -2/+9Ninjas run that fast.
- TechnoRabbit, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6A cheetah could run it in 3.22 seconds.
- kjax82, on 08/28/2008, -0/+6Alright, I swear I almost had an aneurysm when I read
"Some, see 5.0 seconds, a possibility."
The commas! WHY!?!?!? - Crisender111, on 08/28/2008, -1/+7.
It wont happen. If it infact does, the runner will be unplugged from THE MATRIX!
. - seddyei, on 09/18/2008, -2/+7Thank you Technorabbit for your investigative report.
- skin, on 08/28/2008, -1/+6Whoopsies. But now that I actually see madrigaelic, he did the same thing this one did. His is just lifted from indiatimes.com.
- otto989, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Just out of curiosity, does anyone know how fast a cheetah can run 100m?
- TechnoRabbit, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Back to you, Rnabiey.
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+4Wow, what kind of n00b still using a General Dynamics rig?
Pretty sad, I'm running a carbon hydraulic MechX10 with surface scrubbing nanomachines and can easily top 10 m/s even without my antimatter condensation chamber. - Oppslagsverk, on 08/28/2008, -1/+5It is not a curve, it is merely a illusion made by the immense Jamaican speed captured in this photograph.
- Llanowar, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3Well, at least it's a refreshing change from the usual lack of punctuation on the internet.
- samard2002, on 08/28/2008, -0/+3What a ***** stupid comment this is. None of my exoskeletons can top 8 m/s, not even my General Dynamics rig. 8 m/s is a 12 second 100m dash. And that's max. That means turning off counter-balancing AND any power recapture routines. I don't care what the manuals say, the specs on consumer level exoskeletons are just ***** theoretical lab specs. Not one of them could be replicated in the real world, not even a zero elevation running track.
- Archon810, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2You can undigg if you view your profile. Bury is easy, right at the top. Welcome to digg.
- ShugNinx21, on 08/28/2008, -1/+35 days? Hell, There are dupes within hours of each other that make the front page.
- Vikaas, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2ok :(
- inactive, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2I'm going to make 99 more digg.com accounts just to digg your comment down.
- Johnnyjm, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Usain's strength and speed is still based in a world that is built on rules.
He must try to realize the truth.... there is no spoon. - yedrellow, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Not only that, but if you assume a constant acceleration for a 100m run, a time of 5 seconds would require an acceleration of 8ms^-2. Bolt's crazy time of 9.69 seconds had an average acceleration of 2.13 ms^-2. Given the same mass, if someone were to run a time of 5 seconds, they would need an average force of about 3.76 times bolt's force.
That is ridiculous. - ketsugi, on 08/28/2008, -0/+2Indeed, the tag on his chest clearly shows this photo was taken from the Athens games, not from the Beijing one.
- casey2kazan, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Hey all...this was not stolen from Wired...all sources are documented at bottom of the post with Peter Weyand, of Southern Methodist University, an expert in terrestrial locomotion and human and animal performance providing original material not covered elsewhere.

- diggum85, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1Obviously, I'm posting on Digg from the womb. I will be in your mother's womb next if the line isn't too long.
- madrigaelic, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1What are you talking about? You stole lines of my story straight up!
My opening line: "As astonishing as Usain Bolt's record-breaking 100-meter sprint was, his time of 9.69 seconds is nowhere near what biostatisticians predict is the natural limit for the human body."
Your opening line: "Astonishing as Usain Bolt's Olympic record-breaking 100-meter sprint was, his time of 9.69 seconds is nowhere near what biostatisticians predict is the natural limit for the human body."
Hmm... That looks so eerily similar. Dude. You plagiarized the piece and you should take it down immediately. - Sputtnik, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1Let's see 100 meters in 5.0s = 20.0 m/s ~ 72.0 kph ~ 44.7 mph
(and this is assuming you're already running at that speed at the start!)
I don't think so... unless you're son of a cheetah - gadgetuk, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1A lot of 100m sprinters also run the 200m race. The first half of that race is on a curve.
/Captain_Obvious. - Narfmaster, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1It sounds like Deus Ex technology.
- paraforce, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1It could probably be done now with some kind of exoskeleton.
- imakecomments, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1I don't think that's right. Can you cite some sources?
- Llanowar, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1There were 4 ninjas in the same race as Usain Bolt.
- plasmoske, on 08/28/2008, -1/+2plagiarism
stolen from Wired.com - ajkrik, on 08/29/2008, -0/+1That 10 second 100 m has done so much to improve my life.
- samard2002, on 08/28/2008, -6/+7No, but I know a ship that could do the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs.
- Geft, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1It's up to Bolt and his wife.
- sirmasterboy, on 08/28/2008, -0/+1I agree, someone could probably run that fast (instantaneous velocity) eventually but since you are always starting from rest it would be impossible.
