- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well I certainly know that earth has nothing to do with this.. If earth crashed into the sun, it wouldnt even really even the sun..
A good example,
"The large white spot on the face of the sun is called "Sunspot 822."
Its current length on November 17, 2005, is 87,000 miles (140,000 km), about the size of Jupiter."
Anyhoo, I hope this isn't true.. Hopefully by the time ***** stars to get serious and humans are still around and kickin ass, maybe in about 500 years from now we'll have the technology to SLOWLY push the earth away a tiny bit over the course of 20 or so years and then try to rebalance ***** out.. That might seem impossible, but 120 years ago, people were dreaming that in about 500 years, we'd be able to travel to the stars and beyond.. well, we got to the moon in no time........ Oh, and shortly before that, we discovered usa.... We're evolving faster then alot of people think...... That's why before every major invention, people thought it wouldve taken more time then it did to complete it..
The reason for this is because in about 500 years from now, our population will probably be about 25 times larger(assuming we havent all died).
Another theory is that we may be closer to the end of the sun then we may think.. The sun might just be taking its 'last deep breath' before it shrinks and implodes..
There is scientific studies that have been researched, then some time later people thought otherwise.. Which is why i think people need to not think 100% of their idea no matter how much evidence they have.. 95% at least. ;)
"As I've reported before in Earthfiles, the sun is not "normal." Is it warming up? Earth's North Pole and Mars's South Pole are melting at a surprisingly rapid rate. "
Is it me, or didn't i hear something about global warming somewhere?
"Is the sun a bigger player in all this than originally thought?"
Well with it being a massive star(medium-sized is what scientists like to call it), and that 'little glare' being 87,000 miles wide, I imagine so. :D

- dgath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great, now our SUV driving brethren aren't only causing the Earth to get warmer, the greenhouse effect is heating the sun up too? What will we ever do!?!
Uhhh... people, the sun is either getting warmer, or cooler, has to be one or the other. Kinda like the Earth, it is either warming, or cooling, approaching an ice-age, or recovering from an ice-age. There was a 50/50 chance that this would be the scenario, don't be shocked. - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1tjic wrote: "This is mighty convenient for the neo-cons. I take your point (and I agree that it will be used as an excuse to keep pouring crap into the environment) but when push comes to shove, who cares what might be causing global warming. Even if it is discovered that the Sun itself is possibly a greater cause of global warming than is our own pollution, we would still be smart to reduce the level of goo in our environment so that we can ameliorate the effects of global warming. - nsanity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I remember reading something a while back about how the sun IS getting warmer. And how there are 900-year or 3000 year sun cycles and this is all actually very normal. Apparently trees absorb less carbon-dioxide when they are being taking in more of the sun's energy. Which makes the whole global warming thing even worse. It might even be related to pole flips. So little we actually know...
- inactive, on 09/13/2008, -0/+1The sun is not getting warmer...it's getting cooler. It was very hot ---a white dwarf in its infancy. It is now a medium sized 'yellow' star and, as its color indicates, it is much cooler. The hottest stars are relatively small and bright white.
The sun will continue to cool until it become a much larger RED star, perhaps a red giant.
At that time, it will encompass the orbits of both Earth and Mars. You won't be toast --you will be utterly vaporized.
But, don't sweat it (so to speak)! It won't happen for a few billion years from now when the sun becomes a red giant. All of the inner planets ---Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars will be utterly consumed. - twid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't worry, the sun was intelligently designed!
:) - randalt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0google: Your search - "Harvard University Smithsonian Center" "Sallie Baliunas" - did not match any documents.
via google: exxonsecrets.org:
"A darling of the anti-climate movement, [Sallie] Baliunas has been a central scientist in the fight against action on climate change. She is used by virtually all of the Exxon-funded front groups as their scientific expert."
nuff said. no digg - zenghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmm.. i guess we're toast. literally.
- Midnightbrewer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I actually RTFA, and while the sun may indeed be more active than predicted, the article itself is nothing more than sensationalistic garbage. "Signs that Pluto is melting?" Are you kidding me?
- Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@TVArmy: that might have something to do with the Great Cross of Hendaye which predicted the angry sun.. very interesting chez out Jay Weidner's research on it.
Angry sun: http://users.gloryroad.net/~bigjim/hendaye_sun.gif - Gryffydd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let's not forget that besides the Sun and the Earth each getting warmer or cooler for their own reasons, the relationship between the two changes.

Fu: Read it yourself. It's about sunspot & flare activity, not total heat/radiation over time. Not at all the same thing. - redsox59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought the older a star got the cooler it got. Like the red giants or whatever are really the coolest while the small blue ones are the hottest. And since stars become bigger over time I understood it that the sun would hence be getting cooler.
- kubedawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, now I can enjoy my stay @ Florida next year when it's 2 DEGREES HOTTER!!...
cmon.... - kingprad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0physics?
- diggmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, I know there are similar stories on digg already and it's not really IT or tech related, per say. But no similar stories in the last 30 days (according to my search [sun warming]. And definately none reported by a former Miss America candidate, Linda Moulton Howe. Be kind. This is my first posted story, heh.
- nocre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01 - Nothing about weather or climate is 50/50 unless you break down all possibilities into smaller, explicit categories (such as 'it will either rain 2" in the measuring cup sitting on my front porch today or it will not').
2 - If the sun heats up to the point where it begins infringing life on this planet, I suggest simply kissing your ass goodbye (before it disintegrates)
3 - You start bogarting water.
4 - I'll start bogarting Mountain Dew. - grizwald, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh noes .. bush has a sun machine now :0
- dgath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0redsox, it heats up, then cools down. Our sun is still a baby.
- Rudrasksha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What the do know? Beatle's Here Comes the Sun just came on.LOL
- mindsinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"oh noes .. bush has a sun machine now :0"
Haha, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE! - Veretax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While some may feel that to make a guess as to what is going on with the sun is wrong, then is it not equally wrong to assume the same about man causing global warming on the very same assumptions? Seriously though, while I believe the recent warming trend is partially due to the sun warming. Whether green house gases contribute significantly to this trend or not is irrelevant to me.
It is still a good idea to reduce these emissions for a more important reason. Our health. let's face it how many times have you had to stand on a street corner waiting for a long line of cars to pass. Ever get a good whiff off the exhaust of some of those cars? If second hand smoke can cause cancer in the lungs then why not such emissions?
Now I'm not saying we should panic and be over eager to eliminate them immediately in the short run, but there is far more to this issue then just simply global warming. - Corrosionx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WE DIDN'T LISTEN!!!
- FuManchu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Things vary.
During the "Viking Era" Earth was warm enough so that Greenland had attractive farmland. Then by the 16th-17th century things had cooled to the point where it is sometimes called a "mini-ice-age."
Dittos to the dude who is investing in Tennessee Beachfront Estates now!
By the time hoi polloi are buying it, "Colorado Shores" will be the preferred investment.
Keep your investment potential "liquid." - rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope so. I'm tired of the cold already and I want to develop my land on the Tennessee Ocean Front.
- TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0America: The Book called it. Angry sun, the true cause of temperature rises.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0man, I don't wanna know this *****, since a kid I always was afraid the sun would destroy earth!
- RedBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My whacky theory;
1)The sun is currently at a low point of it’s 11 year solar activity cycle.
2)The sun isn’t behaving as it should.
3)The sun should be even more active at the peak of it’s activity cycle
4)Half of 11 is 5.5
5)2005 + 5.5 = 2011+/-
6)The Mayan calendar does not account for any dates beyond Dec 21, 2012
7)There will be no need for dates beyond that day because we will all be consumed

- tonage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No! Say it ain't so! I want tree huggers to keep blaming Bush for the global warming! Sheesh!
Don't worry. They will probably blame him for this too. Then they will sound even more rediculous. - jimbo92107, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I tried to tell everybody to pray to Ra, the Sun God, but nooooo, you all kept praying to "Jesus" and "Allah" and "Gawd," and now look what's happened, Ra's getting pissed and is starting to fry our little planet like a frog on a griddle.
Don't say I didn't try to warn you, but noooo, nobody listens to me....
;-) - bekoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We believe the solar system to be this benevolent gravitational construct...perhaps we are not so isolated as we imagined.
- CroMagnon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If Bush had signed Kyoto, this wouldn't have happened.
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK. We have 40 years of direct correlations.(Space flight) We have 400 years of data?, by observations of other events during which history mentions one thing and another. Then we have 4.5 Billion years that the planet has been here,(give or take a few billion). How much do we know? Squat.... absolutely Squat, if you want to get technical about it. We do NOT have enough information to even Guess what is happening, much less what is Going to happen!!!!!
Do we need to clean up our mess. Absolutely. Will we clean it up? NOT until you can't breathe outside your house anymore. That's human nature!!! Well, somebody better be cleaning it up, or we won't make it far enough in the future to move everybody out..... As you may know, I believe we all gotta go, eventually. Iron, Oil,gas, gets used up, climate is foul, so what else is there to do. New Planet on which we can start ruining!! Just like old times...
That's if we don't kill each other first, because we can't agree on anything....
Good Luck to US....

- ados, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I take your point (and I agree that it will be used as an excuse to keep pouring crap into the environment) [..]
Nobody doubts that there's increasing amounts of CO2 being blasted into the atmosphere. That standpoint of the Bush-administration is, that this is not connected to a climate change. With theories like this, even when the effects of global warming become undeniable, we can still say that we can do nothing about it.
"Excellent pt, ados. Let's judge all scientific reports based on what political party they help or hurt."
You're assuming something that I did not do. I doubt the validity of this report on the basis that it's posted alongside other topics which imply wishful thinking.
And, independently of the quality of the study, it still makes sense to point out how it could be (ab)used by political agendas. - superal1394, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fun, now my ass will turn red faster
- ados, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is mighty convenient for the neo-cons. Instead of global warming being our fault - something that can be counteracted and something in which the Bush government was persistently wrong, counter the judgment of the scientific community - it's now just another godly challenge for us to endure. Thank jesus!
Also on this website: extended reports about UFO sightings. - beeblebrox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Some liberal twerps are going to start spouting off about how the decreasing number of smurfs provides a direct link to the increasing temperature of the sun."
And conservative twerps will immediately believe this news about the sun without any need for evidence, despite such insurmountable incredulity over evolution and global warming that they demand it be proved 100% before it's even mentioned in schools or public policy. - thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I GET IT!1 TEH SUN CAUSES GLOABL WARMING ILL KEEP DRIVING MY HUMMAR LOL
