- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Oh yea, hahahaha, the old reincarnated as a styrofoam cup joke! Gets them every time!
- TimofSuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11"This is the stuff recycling dreams are made of: Yesterday's cup could become tomorrow's plastic spoon."
Oh great. That's all we need, more plastic spoons. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9ROFL! That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Since when is there an "old joke" about being reincarnated as a styrofoam cup? Just for the hell of it I did a Google search for reincarnated styrofoam cup joke, apparently the joke is so old and well known that no one has bothered putting it on a web site before.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7hang on, imortal? hasn't any of you ever sprayed styrofoam with an aerosol can? or put a dab of petrol on it?
- Buelldozer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Immortal? Hardly. Fill a styrofoam cup with gasoline...well at least you can TRY to fill one with gasoline! ;-)
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5ah, but if you can make a plastic spoon, you can make a spork. there can never be enough sporks.
- keane, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8not exactly a dupe but a very similar story was on the front page a week ago. sorry to spoil the party.
http://digg.com/science/Bacteria_Turns_Styrofoam_into_Biodegradable_Plastic - geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9It's a dupe of an article posted about 2 weeks ago. It's not a big digg anymore.
- diskopo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Perhaps people haven't seen it before? For instance, people who joined digg AFTER the first post? Relax and just skip the link if you've seen it already.
- bludra84, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5how can you not digg spork creating bacteria?!
- incognegro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Put some nail polish remover (acetone) on styrofoam, and it will liquify. But I think the product of that reaction is even more environmentally hazardous than either the styrofoam or the acetone by themselves, so on second thought don't do that.
- bigboy101011, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Like daddy Benders says... 'bout time!
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This isn't a dupe.
It's the same subject, but a different article.
RTFA. - airedale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No... but now I want to try it!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who the hell even uses styrofoam anymore? Wasn't that made illegal to use in like 1990 or something? I can't remember the last time I saw a stryofoam cup or mcdonald's box or anything else. The only thing I've seen in the last 15 years that had styrofoam in it is packing material for shipping.
- mackstann, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4diskopo: then why does the "duplicate story" option even exist? Based on your logic, we might as well have the same stories running over and over all the time, since at least some people wouldn't have seen them before.
- sLydE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2people of the future will no longer understand the movie 'Jury Duty'
http://imdb.com/title/tt0113500/
oh...wait... - Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nah, it's just too much Fark.
(Duke sucks! Your dog wants steak! etc.) - bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OK reincarnated as:
Styrofoam cup
or
Paris Hilton's tampon?
personally, the fun of reincarnation is to keep reincarnating (like a theme park ride)..
who would want to stay a Styrofoam cup for EVERMORE? - WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I for one welcome the Styrofoam cup overlords!"
Q: Is it the SAME person, who constantly says "I, for one, welcome the new [whatever] overlords"?
This person may have a serious problem. Perhaps he is just hypnotized and anesthetized by the internet!
(I, for one, am NOT!) - philovivero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1GNAA, man. GNAA.
- WaterDragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah...OK the article is a dupe....similar one a few weeks ago...but I suppose it is good if they find microorganisms to eat styrofoam.
Anything that will eat up all the garbage our culture is leaving behind is useful.
Garbage eaters unite!
Why are you guys always arguing over who has the bigger DIGG? lol - efisher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To Seamus (since we can't reply to replies), Styrofoam is still legal, in the 70's and 80's the gas used to expand it was CFC's which were banned for Their supposedly ozone depleting properties. Which makes me wonder how much CFC is locked up in land-filled styrofoam right now and what will happen if this bacteria gets into the wild.
- razorsharp84, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3man, that would cost, like...thousands of dollars....
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3not to insult the cause, but the energy consumed by recycling (melting, e t c) usually defeats its purpose
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Those crazy chemists and their humor...
- Jagmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1All this hate for Styrofoam cups! First over in the oil spill digg everyone is all "sucks for the animals".. now everyone is bashing non-biodegradable stuff!
I for one welcome the Styrofoam cup overlords! - Sababaaa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I still dont approve of styrofoam, but at least this is a step in the right direction... dugg.
- riknik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most people would prefer a way to get rid of it _without_ releasing noxious gases into the air.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1they call it acetone
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3To be debuted on april 1st....
Right.... - dotuplink, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2So it goes.
- mackstann, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Obviously digg isn't quite smart enough to effectively filter out dupes. Seems like it'd be simple to remedy - just give the 'duplicate story' option more weight.
- mackstann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Bugmenot2: The option to report it says "duplicate story," not duplicate link. So while Darth tater's solution obviously wouldn't have worked in this instance, I think this would definitely still be considered a dupe. Someone who read the original article doesn't get anything new from this link, even if it's worded a little differently or whatever.
- bacon_skoda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1speaking of which, isn't time for that elevator hack about now?
- daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The joke wasn't relevant to the story. Why would you search that on google??
- knightblade2oo4, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I eat styrofoam and I never put my story on the internet!
- Matt-lars, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Stryofoam cups have officially been pwnd
- Darth_tater, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1KEVIN: IMPROVE DUPE FILTER DO NOT ALLOW dupelicate URL's to be posted until its been 30 days...
no digg bc its a dupe
but it *was* cool the first time i dugg it.
also...acitone will disolve styrofoam.... then light th efluid on fire.... bad for atmsphere but no more styrafoam. gas works well too. - FreakTrap, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Try like... uhhh.... a quarter?
- starexplorer, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5come on guys, it's a big digg, make it happen!
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3ba dum bum
- keane, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4How is this on the front page? I warned that it's a repeat story when there were less than 30 diggs. Now there are over 100! Please stop.
No digg. Marked as old. - That1Guy, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1ZzzzZZzzzz....
- kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -38/+2errr what?
