- gregdogum, on 01/19/2008, -2/+48Adam Gibson: [clone to original, just after punching out original]
Adam Gibson: That's for sleeping with my wife. - Continuum, on 01/19/2008, -2/+38See, the problem with your idea is that you assume that since they have the same genes that they will become th exact same people.
Even if Mother Theresa's DNA makes someone predisposed to being caring or kind it does not mean that they will turn out that way.
The person would only share Mother Theresa's DNA not her experiences, which would cause a larger impact on the outcome of a person's life.
It would probably turn out to be more like Clone High, where the only reason they are similar at all is because they are trying to live up to the person they are based on. - sockpuppets, on 01/19/2008, -3/+34oh crap
- sanman, on 01/19/2008, -0/+31This is ridiculous. A cloned embryo doesn't have to be implanted into a womb and grown to term. Actually, you would just make one when needed, and use the stem cells to grow yourself a replacement body part right on your own body, in place of your old damaged organ. I think it would be great to give a blind person replacement eyes, so that they could see. Or cure the deaf, or someone with a defective or damaged heart, etc, etc.
I'm glad at the idea of this being around for me when I grow old. The BabyBoomers can test things out for me in advance. There are plenty of BabyBoomers going into retirement age, and this will give them something useful to spend their nest eggs on, rather than over-spoiling the grandkids. They'll be able to get replacement joints, organs, etc. This tech is arriving just in time for them, and that's great. - tidu, on 01/19/2008, -1/+28you mean when she was 14?

- ixach, on 01/19/2008, -4/+24In the future, homosexuals will no longer be oppressed by Christians, but rather clones will.
- InfinitySnatch, on 01/19/2008, -4/+23Even better, a bizarro Mother Theresa who murders the homeless!
- lul101, on 01/19/2008, -2/+20I know this will sound inhuman and terrible, but let us clone Bush and Cheney, so we could kick the ***** out of them over and over again.
- inactive, on 01/19/2008, -1/+19Remember The Island?
- snowpatrol, on 01/19/2008, -0/+16Adam Gibson: You should clone yourself now, while you're still alive.
Drucker: Why, so I can share your unique perspective?
Adam Gibson: No, so you can go ***** yourself. - InfinitySnatch, on 01/19/2008, -0/+14Animal cologne would be bad, yes.

- kendawg, on 01/19/2008, -1/+12You have a good point, but there is also some evidence of DNA has a lot to do with the way a person turns out.
There have been numerous sets of twins were separated at birth, only to be reunited later in life. Many of them are interested in the same hobbies, go to college and study the same subject, etc. Even though they have never met and were brought up completely separately, those twins turned out to be very similar.
So yeah, experiences are a big part of who we are, but don't underestimate DNA. - Psythik, on 01/19/2008, -2/+12Ah *****, I can't believe they've done this.
- tian2992, on 01/19/2008, -0/+10Dolly wasn't the first animal cloned... Only the first mammal
- GiJoeBob, on 01/19/2008, -0/+9Cloning isn't scary. Go watch Multiplicity! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117108/

- LimeParrot, on 01/19/2008, -0/+9Sounds like a plan! I call it: Putting Good Technology To Good Use!
- jeimus, on 01/19/2008, -2/+10One major problem here. Ever since the fiasco with the Korean scientist Dr. Hwang Woo Suk top notch journals like Science and Nature now seek independant confirmation for these kinds of studies and claims (think of the ramifications of these findings) before they are published. Confirmations are now published along side the originals, journals of lesser prestige such as Stem Cells do not.
Thus no one should be surprised if within a few months to a year that this may also be discredited. - inactive, on 01/19/2008, -0/+8It's a joke. Or rather, it used to be, until I had to explain it.
- llamaguy132, on 01/19/2008, -1/+9ya, we have been able to do this with animals for over 10 years, if more money were put into research then this would become more mature science.
- drmobutu, on 01/19/2008, -0/+8Built in "safety" feature for replicants...
- jon30041, on 01/19/2008, -0/+7Thats humane, and incredible. My hat is off to you.

- Y2Krieger, on 01/19/2008, -1/+7I'm sure that thought went through your simple mind when you were jerking off to porn before coming to read Digg. Millions of sperm died in vain as a result. Mass murderer! Shame on you! But I bet that doesn't stop you from wanking it every now and then.
- Y2Krieger, on 01/19/2008, -0/+6I like to think of it as fixing God's mistakes.
- Mpwns, on 01/19/2008, -0/+6it would take making pot legal.
- Akairenn, on 01/19/2008, -0/+6There's sixty bajillion (IE, ~6 billion) humans now. Less significant? Human life is already at rock bottom prices. There are people, in fact, literally giving it away. Check your local adoption agency for details.
- drgmdp, on 01/19/2008, -0/+6i don't understand. what has this god guy to do in the story?
