  • displaced1, on 05/15/2008, -0/+12The Human Body is truly an amazing machine. The way things work at the smallest levels will surprise people. The electrical activity of the heart is created by exchanging Sodium, Potassium and Calcium. Pressure created by the heart (and a few other more complicated things related to pressure) is what moves the blood around, but what also lets your kidneys filter out waste and what allows you to take in oxygen into your blood. Pressure keeps you circulating, breathing and clean. When you cut yourself, the area swells up to help stop bleeding, but to also bring in a surge of defensive cells to attack anything foreign that may have entered. Some of those cells are also why transplanted organ do not work.

    It is so much more complicated, many more things involved, but truly amazing at what it can do and how it does it.
