- zelig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Tip #41: If you happen to be in a police lineup, it probably IS a two-way mirror.
- Jolene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I really don't mind guys looking at me while I change. ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7oh *****, the back of my ipod is a two-way mirror
- D4r7h3v1l, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10At least one of those was debunked:
http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/mirror.asp - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if they want to look at my stuff they will just get jealous
- Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3More clever news: How to delete a two-way mirror
Just put your fingernail to it. Really, really hard. - amitrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3visual rape eh??
hmmm....so that would make 'wet dreams' MENTAL RAPE...i guess - ironbear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a perfect application for your trusty laser pointer. If the mirror is partially reflective, the pointer will illuminate and disclose the area behind it immediately.
Please don't try this with silvered security camera domes, however! - nneonneo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One way is to put your nose against the mirror. If you see black, it's probably two way; since normal mirrors keep showing your image under low light (i.e. with your face blocking it) up close, but two way mirrors operate by having a dark room behind and bright lights in the room you're in. Removing this contrast causes the mirror to stop reflecting light well.
- kyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know if it's just me, the 2-way mirrors I see are crap, or you guys have eye-problems, but when I look at 2 way mirrors closely enough I see the other side.
- fuzzycasserole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1About the fingernail test, they could always put glass OVER the reflective surface....in fact I know personally that this is used on occasion.
- dirtyfratboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@pdrap
what the hell are you talking about? - ToadPedestal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1An important thing to note that when putting your face up next to the mirror and blocking the light with your hands is that if you move your head and hands around you will be much more likely to see through it if it's one-way mirror.
If you are a typical human, you are much better at detecting superimposed images if they are moving independently. Try this for example: take a single sheet of newspaper that has just text on both sides and put it over the top of an image, like from a magazine. You may be able to see through it, but you probably can't make much out. Now slide the newspaper around in front of the image. Notice how you can see a whole lot more definition? The text and grain from the newspaper is now moving independently of the image, and your eyes are much better at picking the two images apart. - GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i thought this was cool until I tried it on my mirror in my room (which is definitely not a 2 way mirror because I can pick up the damn thing and flip it around), and my fingernail does touch the mirror. no gap.
I call BS, and say NO DIGG - smokembowl, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7well when you're as well endowed as i am this isn't an issue :)

- etherdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Use a prism to look into the other side.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0where can I buy a two way mirror? =-)
- mrinternet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1no digg (old and inaccurate)
When I had some bathrooms redone recently I noticed this was not correct.
The glass guy said if it is a cheap mirror maybe but on better glass the coating is better as is the glass)
No digg for who cares, being wrong and being old (1999 for god sakes)
I prefer the Bruce Lee method (break all the mirrors just in case) :-) - Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@khigy777
Hey, easy there, man! - oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If someone is watching me closely, I can tell it is a 2 way mirror, however, if no one is there at the time I approach it, I feel nothing, and do not know, one way or the other.
This means you have to keep checking(2-3 feet away), and that alerts suspicion to anyone, if someone is gonna watch you....
Cyborg
yeah why not? - saudukargeneral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0though its old, its still cool
- Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ravage386 writes: "Don't some public bathrooms just use reflective sheets of metal instead of glass mirrors?"
Ah, to deal with the rough environmen, eh? Probably so.
Or, for a more poetic approach, a vertical pond. ;-) - ravage386, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't some public bathrooms just use reflective sheets of metal instead of glass mirrors? That would certainly fail the fingernail test, and alot of the time it's just tacked onto the cement brick walls...
Not that I do anything worth watching in public bathrooms :] - osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0d4r7h3v1 - good point, that is a more comprehensive view, but I wouldn't say the fingernail trick doesn't work... it's just not the best way.
- Wamzlee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I knew about the fingernail trick, I did it at a hotel and my fingernails did touch. I don't think it was possible for someone to be looking in as the mirror was on a narrow wall that faced the outside. However, we didn't take our chances.
- Bromskloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0aussiehuw writes: "Even if this works, a digg post pointing to what appears to be a forwarded email? Lame."
I wouldn't say that in itself makes any difference. Why would you? Let's say some important information (not this article, that is) was available only as an e-mail. Should we let embarrassment (or whatever you suggest) keep us from spreading it? - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"where can I buy a two way mirror? =-)" you probably already have one. it's called a CD. Try it if you don't believe me.
- DoctorYoshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't this test be foiled very easily?
For example, what if you placed a regular pane of glass in front of the tw-way mirror. Wouldn't the thickness of the additional glass prevent the fingernails from touching? - prodigy311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can't visually rape the willing!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0try it out then...
- jjustice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not entirely sure that the term "two-way" mirror makes sense. Wouldn't that be a mirror that's a mirror on both sides?
- ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It doesn't take a genius to realise that the story is complete BS.
All that has to be done to accomodate for the fingernail test is a sheet of glass over the 2 way mirror.
Can't believe this made front page. - serra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Are you kidding me? These things are so easy to spot! I can't believe that some moron had to come up with that article.
------------------------------------------
http://fuh-q.com - ah802, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Silver mylar is also semi-transparent and can be used as a 2 way mirror if the light levels are correct.. makes for cool infinity boxes.
- jack2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0behind two way mirrors are hidden cams or spy cams. these can be detected by bug detectors available at ebay
http://www.thomasprofileeditor.info/ - sometemple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There are certainly such things as 1st surface mirrors, while not particularly well suited for changing rooms, it's not a sure test by any stretch of the imagination.
- TeleCarlos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I always make it a point to make an obscene pose/ sexually harrasing pose to any mirror that "may" be a two-way. Might as well give'em their money's worth!!! You can check (visualy) my sacs or ass anytime, like I care.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't realize that 2-way mirrors were that hard to spot. The one's I've come across were pretty obvious.
- manata, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I bet there is a moderately humorous Chuck Norris statement to go along with this article.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There doesn't have to be a room or large open space behind a one way mirror. They could embed a small camera in the wall. So the mirror on a thin, brick, or outside wall could still be one. The flashlight/laser pointer trick wouldn't work very good here. And if they placed glass over it, the thumb trick wouldn't work either. Realisticly speaking, embedding a small camera is a lot more feasible than secret rooms and passages in the walls.
- Stizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was actually shown this a couple of weeks ago. The arcade I work in has a 2 way mirror and I was in the office and saw this guy look at the mirror, walk past it and then come up right to it and put his thumb on the mirror. I walked out of there as he was walking out my store and he stopped and told me about it.
Neat stuff. - master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0all you have to do is shine a flashlight through the mirror and it will become blatantly obvious if it is a two way mirror or not. i know not everyone carries a flashlight with them, but also keep in mind the location of the mirror. if it is in a mall store dressing room and the mirror is on the back of the door or on a divider then you are safe (duh). if you think the mirror might be in a place the might have a two way mirror the change somewhere else. but dont forget how small video cameras have gotten, they are wireless, and how they can run of a nine volt battery for months. i would be more concerned with theses

I suppose I should have some sympathy for your handicap. You are obviously paralyzed from the neck up. You're just another Internet-addicted idiot suffering from diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the mind. You are about as entertaining as a child's inflatable punching toy. You bop it, it springs back, you bop it again and you forget it ever existed. It slowly deflates in an unused corner, then one day you throw it away. - jack2006, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://free-myspace-video-codes.fnaf.org/
