- j1ggy, on 01/22/2008, -2/+10I can't wait to build my army of clones.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -1/+6Then they would not be special and people would instead would value small chested women and flat asses.
- j1ggy, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3And you think McDonald's is everywhere right now...
- Naidel, on 01/22/2008, -0/+3Actually, if you take a look at modern Western countries, and compare them to developing countries in Africa, for example, we have a lot less kids, and we live a lot longer. It's quite logical that with better health standards, people do not feel the need to buffer themselves with a large brood in order to minimize the risk of all their offspring dying off at once.
There are a lot of other problems associated with an ever aging population, but your Grandma deciding to squeeze out a few more Aunts and Uncles for you is not one of them. - Singularitarian, on 01/22/2008, -1/+4We are awash in energy (from the sun), we just don't know how to harness it. Advances in solar power will give us a practically unlimited supply of energy. We will be able to support populations far larger than what we have now.
- blast_flame, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2@Trav3133
I would however feel sad about death as it slowly ravaged my body and brought be closer to the brink. I would also miss many things. A century isn't enough time to experience everything this world has to offer. Even if I could then I still would miss things as not everything is even doable yet. Can I play the best virtual reality simulations of the 25th century? Can I look over earths first extra-solar base with pride? With life extension I have a chance. Also other people would miss my knowledge, skills and impute not just me.
The difference between dieing and murder is that coercive force is used to push me over the edge to death. Stopping life extension is murder because you are using coercive force to prevent life extension and as such push me over the brink. - blast_flame, on 01/22/2008, -0/+2Even if we can not keep up resource wise with that level of population growth would it not be better to restrict breeding that force everybody to die? Is potential life somehow more important than life that already exists? Hell we could give everyone a choice, have children and die or don't have children and live forever. How does that sound to you? Which do you think most people would choose?
- fiskintl, on 01/22/2008, -2/+4clones look like bubbles. FUN.
- blast_flame, on 01/22/2008, -1/+3Death is not tragic? Would you be happy if I killed you right now?
Death is tragic because we lose a thinking, feeling being. Death is tragic because we lose that person's knowledge, skills and impute.
How about a compromise, you get a choice. You get to choose if you want to have children and die or remain childless and live forever. How does that sound to you? - blast_flame, on 01/22/2008, -1/+3Why is stopping life extension a good idea? The fact is most people view life that already exists to be more important than potential life. This means it would always be better to stop people from breeding and end potential life then stopping life extension technology.
Would you force me to die? Would you murder me? Would you commit mass murder to everyone who does not wish to die? - blast_flame, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Is it not better to try and fail than to have never tried at all? The cavemen also probably thought that dieing whenever they got a scrap or minor disease was fine and dandie too.
- SpikeLee, on 01/22/2008, -1/+2What? Why?
- cl2yp71c, on 01/22/2008, -1/+2"I want my SHAKEYS PIZZA!"
- Singularitarian, on 01/22/2008, -1/+2I find this sentiment very hard to understand, although it is fairly common. Don't you enjoy your life? Death is a tragedy. Once we cure death (fingers crossed), people will look back upon our time and be horrified and amazed that people used to die.
- mahdaeng, on 01/22/2008, -0/+1Except for the fact that there is actually a decline in birth rate.
- Drkboarder, on 01/22/2008, -4/+5Come to think of it I could use a new right forearm. Mine is a little worn...
- mal1964, on 01/22/2008, -2/+2I think this will be very important and helpful in ways we don't even know yet. but i always think about who pays scientist to invent and research certain areas of science. I know the number one reason but what are the ones i don't know.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1Where did you get that fact from? And it is a good idea because the system we have now where people who were going to die, die anyways is working good enough. If the amount of people (in the high millions) who could be saved from dying were to remain living you would have to assume that population would grow out of control or another "thing" would come and control the over population thus negating any positive effects "life extension" methods would have.
- capiCrimm, on 01/22/2008, -3/+3the longer people live the less they reproduce. The last thing we need is a bunch of young rabbits producing fifty kids.
- bobcoxocn, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1I guess that's why the population is still growing, right?
- VaporBro, on 01/22/2008, -5/+54 boobs > 2 boobs
- theyac3, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1Was that a five assed monkey?
- bobcoxocn, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1Not sure if you guys understood me. I don't just mean oil and energy resources... I also mean food and property. Yes, we have a lot of space left, but 2 BILLION people would be one hell of an increase...
- akent22, on 01/22/2008, -1/+1I know this isn't strictly on topic but I find it odd that for "ethical considerations" states prohibit compensation for egg donors. Men can spread their genetic goo through as many sperm banks as often as they like and walk away with a nice sticky check each time. When you consider being an egg donor can be a process spanning months and more than a few potentially painful procedures, it seems a little unfair.
- RemnantSith, on 01/22/2008, -3/+3If you don't want to live forever then go die now.... I know I'd like to live for forever. Scientists have already found the gene that controls aging. They just need to find out how it works to invent a way to stop it at a certain age.
- bobcoxocn, on 01/22/2008, -6/+5That's pretty incredible, but I have to agree that extending the lives of humans paired with a growing birth rate will cripple our resources. What happens when you have 8 billion people living for 120+ years and the population keeps growing?
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -2/+1Don't blame me I voted for Kodos.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -2/+1We don't want two of you, the one of you is bad enough. Now GET *****!!!!
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -1/+0I wouldn't touch that fishing rod if I were you mate.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -3/+1Being killed is different than dying. If you die you do not care about losing your thinking or felling of being. You are dead everything is nothing and nothing matters. IF you killed me I would be dead I would have no emotion so would I be happy? No, but i would not be sad. Anyone that wants to live forever is a fool.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -3/+1To date no real proof exists showing stem cells are going to live up to any of the hype.
But yet the tax payer is forced to put billions that could go to much more worthy causes than helping the rich live a bit longer.
Seems pretty obvious to me the idea of growing healthy working organs without a body is going to prove futile as well. - wukillabee, on 01/22/2008, -2/+0thats a negative, guys need more cushin for the pushin
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -3/+1Why is death a tragedy? If people did not die than every problem in the world right now would be multiplied by X.
- BigBallistix, on 01/22/2008, -5/+2Heeeeey, I wonder if we could genetically manipulate clones of ourselves to prevent their free-will, give 'em two extra arms and make mini-me sla - assistants all round! Remove their sense of taste too, so we could feed them Krusty Imitation Brand gruel.
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -3/+0( . ) ( . )
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -4/+1I dunno but I guess this guy is asking the same question...http://www.rant-here.com/drupal/node/142
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -6/+3As long as they make the first human after Bush is out of office, im good :]
- wukillabee, on 01/22/2008, -6/+3we need to clone women with big asses and big *****
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -4/+1Huh? They would reproduce the same amount, plus people that get cancer or some other disease and die before having children would now live longer and be able to have children. Thus increasing the amount of people alive and removing what little is left of our resources at a faster rate and forcing us into some weird society where everything needs to be rationed.
- nitsnipe, on 01/22/2008, -8/+4I bet Eric Cartman would be pissed anout this.
- 8KROM, on 01/22/2008, -5/+0I for one, welcome a cloned army of myself, as my new overlords!!
- inactive, on 01/22/2008, -17/+11Who cares, why do people want to invent all this stuff to make humans live longer. That is a total mistake. The last thing we need is more people living longer.
