Back then the atmosphere was richer in co2 than it is now, which allowed way more trees than today, and there was more o2 because of all the plants. Dinos were able to get that big because of the metabolic effect of greater o2 supply and were able to adapt to the abundant plant food source, stripping foliage off tall trees.
