- bigfatphony19, on 10/15/2008, -3/+119The only dangerous thing about marijuana is that it's illegal.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -7/+98-fires up the vaporizer-
- Paulorific, on 10/15/2008, -2/+62Never smoked weed but it is very interesting how the governments of the world ban weed but allow alcohol and tobacco. Pretty dumb.
- woodyinthehoody, on 10/15/2008, -5/+57I like all of the weed submissions on Digg today

- Quake120, on 10/15/2008, -1/+30Read this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis
According to that article, marijuana can be used to treat:
Nausea, vomiting, unintentional weight loss, lack of appetite, spasticity, painful conditions, neurogenic pain, movement disorders, asthma, glaucoma, symptoms associated with treatments for cancer, AIDS, and hepatitis, neurological conditions such as epilepsy especially complex partial seizures, multiple sclerosis, spasms, migraine, arthritis, spinal and skeletal disorders, mood disorders, mental health issues such as depression, post traumatic stress disorder, clinical depression, attention-deficit disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, Crohn's Disease, bipolar disorder, premenstrual syndrome, hypertension, insomnia, and constipation.
The article states there are over 250 conditions marijuana is indicated for!
Find me a medicine that doctors are free to prescribe everywhere in the USA that treats that many conditions and is proven to be safe...You won't find it.
Just legalize it already. People already use it anyways and we obviously now have the medical research to support that it is a useful and safe. It should be legalized nationwide for medicinal use and for responsible use by adults.
I will agree there should be severe penalties for driving under the influence (just like alcohol), and it should not be allowed in certain places, just like alcohol. That makes sense. Denying the use of it for people in their homes? That is just asinine. - bigfatphony19, on 10/15/2008, -1/+28I wish more non-weed smokers thought rationally like that.
- reconsldr74d, on 10/15/2008, -0/+25Marijuana has not always been illegal. In fact during the prohibition is was completely legal in many (if not all) states. So maybe you should learn some history before you start to argue about it.
It was also only made illegal through a propaganda campaign and demonization. Or do you really think that smoking pot makes you kill people? - maximilen, on 10/15/2008, -7/+28"Drug" carries so much negative connotation in this case -- Marijuana is just some danm grass people!!!
- kerbe6, on 10/15/2008, -1/+19IT'S A FIGURE OF SPEECH..

- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -3/+20It is a drug.
But a less toxic drug than the drugs known as alcohol, tobacco, and coffee. - temujin2012, on 10/15/2008, -3/+20I still don't know why this isn't legalized and regulated. Seems like easy income for the gov't, and less spending on prosecution and jailing of users.
Whatever. - TomGfromCanada, on 10/15/2008, -1/+18***** the government and there stupid drug laws
- Shaman760, on 10/15/2008, -0/+14Let him. He will have earned it. Besides, drinking alcohol shrinks your brain and raises your blood pressure. Give it time.
- Frankyfan3, on 10/15/2008, -0/+12The US constitution was written on hemp paper.
Thomas Jefferson grew cannabis sativa in his medicinal garden along with poppies. Marijuana has not always be illegal, in fact, the term marijuana for cannabis only gained traction in order to reference the hispanic farm workers that were demonized for smoking it before the substance became illegal. This was an issue about immigration and corporate greed when this law went into effect.
Marijuana was made illegal by an act of congress without any medical or scientific basis. The entire process of the law was started by the Dupont industry because they feared hemp products as competition for their plastics... the heads of Dupont had William Randolph Hearst print sensationalistic "reefer madness" articles of completely fabricated origins and were in cahoots with the former head of the Anti-Alcohol brigades to transfer policing of the "devil's weed" to the industrial prohibition complex we know today as "the war on drugs"
Hemp is illegal to cultivate still. HEMP for christ's sake! It's not even the psychotropic variety. It is one of the best hopes for a renewable source of fiber and energy, but because of this crazy idea that legalizing it will bring about rampant disregard for the law, it's still illegal. - MishKabob, on 10/15/2008, -1/+13You know, while the government is at it, they should just ban anything that is related to drugs
like led zeppelin, the beatles, and all the good musicians that were influenced by drugs.
please government! protect us from ourselves! - EricSchC1, on 10/15/2008, -1/+12Naive. Young.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+12Follow the money.
- Quake120, on 10/15/2008, -1/+11I am a non weed smoker and I believe everything Paulorific has said. Hundreds of thousands of people die per year in tobacco related cancer and other illnesses, and tens of thousands of people die per year of alcohol poisoning or cirrhosis of the liver. How many die from a direct result of smoking weed? Very few in comparison to alcohol and tobacco.
- Kautylia, on 10/15/2008, -2/+12Yeah...I'll be honest. Last night was for none of those reasons.
- bigfatphony19, on 10/15/2008, -0/+10Obama inhaled frequently. That was the point.
- reconsldr74d, on 10/15/2008, -1/+11When does the government ever make sense?
- Jareth86, on 10/15/2008, -0/+9And right above the cannabis story is a site dedicated to photos of upside down dogs.
- ru1dt, on 10/15/2008, -1/+10it's a switch
- cowchips902, on 10/15/2008, -1/+9obama was for decriminalzation but now he won't touch the subject with a ten foot pole.
- 64bitllama, on 10/15/2008, -0/+8First of all, marijuana has been illegal for 80 years; Compared to the 10,000 years man has used it, I would hardly call that "always illegal"
And why can't it change? Seems to me like you have a bit of a cognitive bias. Will it never change because too many people like you refuse to accept the facts and think about the issue rationally? - nicktheawesome, on 10/15/2008, -1/+9This bears repeating, even with the grammatical error.
- Wakkyweed, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8"Poison" carries so much negative connotation in this case -- Nightshade is just some damn berry people!!!
Sigh... Look, there's nothing wrong with having a toke or two, but I really get tired of people defending certain drugs because they are "natural" or "just a plant". Nature is full of nasty deadly things that will kill you in a heartbeat, and even the good things can have harmful side effects. If you want to defend marijuana use then that's just fine. Do us all a favor, though, and use a better logical argument than that. - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+7True, the lazy thing is a chicken/egg conundrum. But from what I've seen it makes lazyasses lazier, and just makes motivated folks calmer. Or paranoid!
- Lula87, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8Get high.
Then you will understand. - bassfanatik, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8At least weed isn't as addictive as tobacco...
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8So can South Park.
- ilmickeyli, on 10/15/2008, -0/+7Don't forget your towel!
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -1/+8Because he's smart. You need to pick your battles very carefully to win the White House.
- gobbleplex, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6This is a great argument in favor of legalization and regulation.
- eavesdrop, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6Obama "pledges" to stop the DEA raids on the medical marijuana states, not decriminlization.
- inactive, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6Big Pharma doesn't much like this kind of talk.
- Quake120, on 10/15/2008, -1/+7http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_cannabis
I believe that article has a list of proponents and opponents of medical marijuana.
Obama is a supporter, and McCain is not. No surprise there. - FaithclubDotNet, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6Can you link me to Obama's website, legislation, or an interview where he stands up for weed? Sure, it sounds good to people who are pro weed, but politicians generally fear the refer.
- enantiodromia, on 10/15/2008, -0/+6what do you think "get high" means?
anti-depression? pain-relief? anti-nausea?
thats why getting high on marijuana is so great, because a lot of the things that bother you throughout the day fade way back into the distance, letting yo focus on happier thoughts.
get it? - NikoKun, on 10/15/2008, -1/+6Well maybe because it actually does have useful medical effects? And I'm talking about beyond just making people high!
Obviously you need to do more research. Medically used cannabis is different than just getting high. It reduces nausea, pain, swelling, etc... even helps it's user forget about their suffering.
It's possible that it actually could fight some cancers too.
BUT we should still have the right over our own body, to get high on a safer drug than alcohol, if we want to. There is no reason for the government to criminalize us over this. So we are WELL within our right, to demand not to get in trouble for pot. - Kautylia, on 10/15/2008, -2/+7Yeah, I'll be honest. Last night was for none of those reasons.
- thetrailofgreen, on 10/15/2008, -0/+5Kid, every non-violent "criminal" you put in prison for drug-related "crimes" has an exponentially negative effect on society.
The "criminal" can no longer buy food, clothes, cars, or video games.
The farmer, tailor, auto-maker, and video game company lose business.
They pay their employees less.
Their employees buy less goods and services.
Producers cut their supply.
On and on and on and on...
All because some addict needs addiction treatment, or some dealer is trying to profit from the free market, as is his right.
Everytime some pig carts another non-violent drug addict or dealer off to prison, we ALL pay a hefty price.
Understand? - inactive, on 10/15/2008, -2/+7Pro-legalization non toker here.
