- shakeysugarpimp, on 12/30/2008, -1/+18And so it begins...
- leland1, on 12/31/2008, -0/+12This is the H9N2 flu strain (subtype of the "bird flu"). This strain has jumped to a very few people, so we are using its characteristics to develop a possible vaccine for it and maybe other related strains.
It is *NOT* a feared mutant strain of the dreaded H5N1 (HPAI) which we know is highly pathogenic (infective) among birds and is feared for its pandemic potential *IF* it mutates into something that can be efficiently transmitted between humans, which it isn't now. - salmanjafri, on 12/31/2008, -4/+16Have you heard, about the bird?
- Pinkertinkle, on 12/31/2008, -1/+11Let's first worry about the regular flu which kills many thousands of times more people in a month than bird flu has, ever.

I've been making an effort to not consume
meat, and have had good results. I haven't
ditched animal by-products, yet, but that
will be next. - opticwind, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1 Poor girl, I hope she'll be ok...
- opticwind, on 01/17/2009, -0/+1Listen bud,,,,"Millsee"...the framework is funny. A futurama joke almost always kills. But you gotta know how to work it. Maybe even incorporate a birds fly "OVERhead/OVERlord" joke if you can.
Together we can make this world a funny place. - ohgodpie, on 12/31/2008, -1/+1the bird with the power

- nixpix66, on 12/31/2008, -8/+2OH ***** BIRD FLU!! I remember when this was first discovered, I was a counselor at a camp, and told every child there, mind you all below the age of ten, that we're gonna die of bird flu. OOOHHHH WHAT FUN THAT WAS!!! I was fired, but still, having 300 children cry at once because a disease that they can't see, smell, or hear is going to kill them painfully and slowly makes me giggle. Don't judge me. And I thought it was gone, but now its coming back!!
- MrWally, on 12/30/2008, -23/+3Buried because IvanB has 553 articles that have made it to the front page.
