- justjoehere, on 06/17/2008, -0/+7Yes, which is why more didn't die.
- bcorder, on 06/17/2008, -0/+4I'm sure there will be a knee jerk reaction and a rush to build tornado shelters at all camps. But the fact of the matter is, you have little warning, large numbers of people and few structures. It is a rural camp. Having been a boy scout leader for a number of years, you worry and make contingency plans, but when you're in the middle of nowhere, there's little you can do. This storm was somewhat unique, little warning and very powerful.
I disagree that it's the fact it killed boy scouts, just the fact that it killed kids that has raised the attention level. - bjs3171, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3wow. Where's "Real"? Is it near Rio?
- justjoehere, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3A limited working system in a small geographic area is still 5 years out, with 15 years for more widespread implementation.
- crapmatic, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3"cloud bouncing"?? groan
- Pauli92, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3Twister all over again!
- Isandunk, on 06/17/2008, -0/+2Time.
- OwdenBowden, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1Have you even been in a tornado? I have 3 times and let me tell you - you just don't do the "duck and cover' routine. This is some serious ***** and you do what you can just to make it out alive.
- LiquidShield, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1All homes should be built with Swirling Vortex of Death shelters... Not just camps..
- sn0wmis3r, on 06/17/2008, -0/+1oh really? bbc says UK gets an estimated 50 tornadoes a year
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/3059663. ...
US had 148 in February alone and averages 1,170 a year - thephysicist, on 06/17/2008, -2/+2the UK has more tornadoes per annum than the US, oblivously no where near the size and power as what happens over there. Shame though. Would be nice for a couple to rid our country of chavs (total opposite to boy scouts)
- Pittance, on 06/17/2008, -8/+3You know, they teach you how to survive a tornado in the Boy Scouts. Didn't those kids pay attention?
