- FlyingCaveman, on 10/26/2009, -3/+34Its so you forget who gave it to you. Brilliant!
- roarkmeister, on 10/25/2009, -2/+30What?! Man, this cancels out everything that makes herpes cool to have.
- roastedbagel, on 10/26/2009, -0/+19So you're saying Grandpa had herpes? :(
- shutaro, on 10/26/2009, -1/+11Gave what to you?
- DiggerLater, on 10/27/2009, -0/+6but the article says it only applies to HSV-I, which 85% of people have anyhow...
- seearees, on 10/27/2009, -0/+6yeah, crazy huh? I nearly ***** my pants when I got tested a few years ago and the lady said I had herpes. Then she told me it was hsv1 and that 85% of people have it I felt a little better. My mom and sister get cold sores but I have never gotten one myself.
I wonder if people in which it lies dormant have the same alzheimer's risk. - gcnaddict, on 10/27/2009, -0/+5You do know that herpes is transmitted via infected *neurons*, right? It only really transmits if there's a break in the skin, which is quite common on the mouth and on the penis/in the vagina during unprotected sex.
You're thinking about HPV, which transmits via skin just as easily on regions not covered by a condom. Herpes spreads via broken skin, and skin not covered by a condom is also typically much less likely to be broken since that's not the part of the skin which is involved in most of the friction work.
Also, since this has to do with HSV1, it's more about the mouth anyway. Sure, HSV1 can infect anywhere, but it's much more commonly found around neurons surrounding the mouth. - Hubris, on 10/26/2009, -1/+6You guys do know that herpes is transmitted via infected skin....not from anything covered by a normal condom - right?
- GlassAgate, on 10/26/2009, -3/+7So, one uses a condom, if they have the STD, to
try to prevent the spread of it, but the STD may cause the person to
forget that they have it. If they forget that they have
it, then they have no reason to use a condom, which
means that they could spread it to another person...
and so the cycle continues.
Cleaver little critter. - Fleshbeast, on 10/27/2009, -0/+4"As many as 85 percent of us have been infected by it, though experts say as few as 15 percent show symptoms."
Wait, what >_> - maliath, on 10/27/2009, -1/+5It can be spread from what's behind the condom and by what's just outside. It knows little boundaries. You'd be surprised how many places you can find HSV-2
- rahga, on 10/27/2009, -0/+4You have to actually read the article, but this problem is apparently related to HSV-1 "oral herpes" (cold sores), not HSV-2 "genital herpes". Either can infect either part, but for the most part, protection won't help, just avoid kissing.
- LightPhoenix, on 10/27/2009, -1/+4So, basically no one on Digg will ever get Alzheimer's?
- ChileanGoD, on 10/27/2009, -1/+4..... BUT WAIT! ... THERE'S MORE!
- sgtbutterscotch, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Gave what to who?
- seearees, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3I guess I kinda set myself up for that one, huh. Sometimes I forget the internet is just like middle school.
- T8erT0T, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Why is my name Florida?
- 2Six119, on 10/27/2009, -0/+3Her...oh I see
- catalysis, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2You only have one herpie?
- inactive, on 10/27/2009, -0/+2I got herpes off a used snuggie I bought at a garage sale.
- sapphirecut, on 10/26/2009, -2/+4wow, that's super sexy. "i may have given you herpes. but it's okay, you won't remember since alzheimer's will take over anyway."
- leapingstan, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Mono is another well known sickness of the viral origin (Epstein Barr virus). Here's someone's torturous experience caused by Mono.
http://www.storyleap.com/readstory.asp?id=134 - EddiePotato, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1The 1950s and 60s look plenty innocent in movies, but that generation drank like freaking fish, and you know what that always leads to.
- EddiePotato, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1It's so cute!
- EddiePotato, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Phonetic jokes don't do too well in text form.
- D0m0kun, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Guys, we gotta stop this.
And since women dig guys passionate about causes, "Herpes research donor" in my match.com profile would be a turn-on, right? - fluidfoundation, on 10/26/2009, -1/+2Any study on if Alzhiemer's leads to Herpes? I hear they get it on a lot at the old folks homes these days.
- Trav1289, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2But what if i dont have them?
- michirican123, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2to my knowledge, good weed is the cure to everything, so
yes,
you are right - EddiePotato, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1You have herpes at had me.
- sgtbutterscotch, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2Like anterograde amnesia?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clive_Wearing - hereticoftruth, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Interesting. But I also heard that the risk of Alzheimer's increases with any prior brain damage. Maybe it is just that herpes causes more brain damage than we realize.
- D0m0kun, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1You're debilitated by Herpes? Damn, you got it bad.
- WatIsNotTaknYet, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2Even though I wasn't really being serious when I wrote that comment, I DO have to stand by my statement that weed is a great remedy for cold sores (at least for me). Just go to google and search anything weed and cold sore related. You'll definitely find lots of testimonials and some journals on the benefits of THC on herpes simplex 2.
- tehknotte, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2cool
- firebhaal, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2the gift that keeps on giving...
- iletumi, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2Stress can cause your immune system to weaken in turn causing the virus to pop up. It may not cure it but just as a glass of wine is recommended to relieve any stress, so too could one use pot to relieve any stress on your body that would cause your immune system to weaken.
- Duffalpha, on 10/27/2009, -1/+2You had me at "Have Herpes?"
- DP84, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Brain herpes - The terrifying result of *****.
- outfed, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1So you have herpes?
- GlassAgate, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Well, what about "kissing" your partner's gizmo?
- supertaliman, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1***** Man!!!
- TheRealMisterd, on 10/27/2009, -0/+1Meanwhile, if you've have Chickenpox, guess what it's the "varicella zoster virus" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varicella_zoster_viru ... which is HERPES.
which can come back when you are older as ZONA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herpes_zoster) - Leezus, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1Man, talk about adding insult to injury.
Except here, rather than an insult, it's a debilitating disease. - MacBandit, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1It might help if you read the article. Oh, and weed never helped my cold sores. Not even when used on a daily basis.
- blitzwing85, on 10/27/2009, -0/+0Lucky for me, I can't catch the herpes from masturbation.
- matticusf1nch, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1And teleportation. That is, if you take herpex
- tmanv, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1I can't remember if I have herpes...
- EddiePotato, on 10/27/2009, -1/+1Way to ruin a grand setup for subtle witticisms with that ham-fisted stinker, Chilean.
