- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Extra effort... I like it!
- alxdman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Albert Einsteins Birthday too
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I'm waiting for March 14th, 2015 @ 9:27am. :P
- umrgregg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14If you remember to post that here at that time, I'll give you a dollar. :)
- joebrodie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It is kind of funny, but where we work there are some "old school" programmers (back from the Fortran I days) that celebrate Pi day every 3/14. However, they buy a ton of pies (has something to do with Pi) and hand them out at 1:59.
I guess I get some pie today! - lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11That reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they discovered nerds excrete a pharamone that drives bullies to beat them up. To get all the nerds' attention in the auditorium, the jerry lewis scientist screamed, "Pi is equal to 3." The whole place went silent and he said, "I'm sorry it had to come to that."
- Konquest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Yup, that's it... No need to continue... Pi = 3
:) - ToadX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Thank you.
- Sparklehorse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If that was indeed from memory you either need to get a hobby or get laid.
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6in three years we get to have Square root day!!
3/3/09 - streakybacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6sweet, i was the 314th digg
- stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The internet will have sucked itself into a black hole of death and imploded by that time
- LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6If you're working in base pi, the area of a circle is simply r^2 (yes, I know you can't have an irrational base; it's a joke).
From memory:
3.14159265358979323846264338... er... eh I'm getting rusty. - LucasOman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Despite its infinite length, it's possible (though not probable) that there exists a date for which the digits do not appear in pi.
- kidblast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's also steak and BJ day. I guess you could have Pi for dessert.
- heymark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Well, that's what happens when robots are made of metal.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Remember... it's also another day:

:) - dmh2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5it's too late to celebrate PI day. The actual value of PI is 3.0. At least, that is what they wanted it to be in Indiana about 100 years ago when the state legislature almost decreed PI to be 3.0.
http://www.indianaskeptics.org/mt-archives/2001/01/_30.html
there are several urban legends about Alabama and other states but this is the real story. - dragonflight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4July 22nd (22/7/06) in Europe is Pi day (haha 22/7....)
Either way, an important day today as well - jamesezar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4today my math teacher goes, happy pi day everyone, everyone goes "were getting pie?" and hes like no, todays 3.14, he thinks hes funny
- Sparklehorse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+420 bucks says that he is standing outside his parents house and he has his room in the basement.
- CovardeAnonimo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3we'll have cubic root a year before that.
02/03/08
2 to the power of 3 is 8, got it ?
and we had other square root day just 2 years ago. 02/02/04 - PerlJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Some people's minds just work with numbers automagically. Have you ever been in an elevator where the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th floor buttons have been pushed? Or you see 19:39 for the time? And your mind automatically thinks "Fibonacci" or "Hitler/WWII"? Ok, so... I'm weird.
-pj - GTAcrimelord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sweet, where do I get my free pie? I'm starving!
- exaviger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everyone knows PI day is on the 22'nd of July -> 22/7
- Elleo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Try: google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi_day
(Had to remove http:// due to digg buggily linking it to http://digg.com/science/"google.com/etc...) - remo2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This guy loves Pi Day.
http://herbertmidgley.blogspot.com/2006/03/happy-pi-day.html - panicofficer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2...and they eat old people's medicine for fuel...
- Blizaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2any pics? I'd love to see it
- DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Expressed as a number 3142006 occurs at position 2,599,596 counting from the first digit after the decimal point. The significance of this fact is left to your imagination.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's very nice... and I like Pi as much as the next guy... but let's get our priorities straight here. Visit http://www.steakandablowjobday.com and tell me which holiday you'd rather.
- mojaam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, today in math class (which was also an unfortunate coincidence), the geeky teacher mentioned it. Also said he can remember only up to 50 digits and is challenging his sun who remember more than him. Now that's geeky. The number e is so jealous over all this pi fiasco hehe.
- allahmohammed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here are five fundamental constants tied up into one equation:
e^(i * pi) plus 1 = 0
where e is the natural base of logs and i is the square root of minus one
Also, another good use for pi is to remember that there are about pi times ten to the seventh seconds in a year. (Taught to me by Dr. Rob Knapp about thirty years ago.) - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Elleo: you can put in http:// links - the link will only be broken as long as your post can be edited.
Once it "solidifies," the link will be correct and work.
It's just a little digg bugg [sic] that needs to be fixed. - PerlJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Going back in time and posting this precisely on 3/14/1592 at 6:53:58 would be even better... -pj
- stlcadet11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha, our school's math department is celebrating Pi Day today. About a month ago there was a t-shirt design contest and I designed one in PS and won 30 bucks to Best Buy and a free shirt. Now almost everyone in the school is walking around with my shirt on today haha. :P
- desiv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Have your admin open up Wikipedia. There's no reason it should be blocked.
Going thru proxies or loopholes is asking for trouble, because if it's logged, you can get caught.
(Well, not for Wikipedia, but when someone starts using those, they never stop with safe sites. :-)
Signed - Your Network Admin (OK, not yours, I don't block Wikipedia.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yes, I bought lots of pie at school today, twas good
- Sell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was wondering why on my Nintendo DS this morning when I was playing The Sims 2 the NPC's were saying happy Pi day.
- XTCinOvaltine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2HAHA. My Precalc teacher, for extra credit, had us bring in half a pie (which in radians is pi) or wear a pi(nk) t-shirt. And for extra credit she gave us 3.14 or if we did both the pi and the t-shirt 3pi/2. Strange, but fun nonetheless.
- elias, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5digg cause i would of never thought of it
- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In order to fully celebrate this day you must first make a pi pie (a pie which has a radius equal to pi) cut into pi slices ingest then at 1:59 AM or PM (or both) scream at the top of your lungs "Pi!" for 26 seconds. You will most likely conclude your day with a special trip in a white van and a strait jacket.
- Philbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe it's a good day to watch the movie Pi
http://imdb.com/title/tt0138704/ - TheRappingShoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meh, I prefer Moles day (23rd October, celebrating Avogadro's constant).
But then I prefer real pie to both. Basically:
Pie > 6.02 x 10^23 > 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592*
*ish - etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1CONGRATS!
- antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Funny! My last name is "Pi" and everyone is teasing me with today. :( I am scared to know what will happen at 1:59 PM. :(
- ColdChilli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And Its my Birthday!
