- sergiodeathstar, on 07/03/2009, -1/+15Have climbed both of these! (Ngarahoe in the back ground.) It's not always snowy, in summer I climbed it in sneakers. (Though us New Zealanders are pretty tough.)
- eggzs, on 07/03/2009, -0/+10Tongariro Crossing is a must-do.
- Gareth321, on 07/03/2009, -0/+8It's cold this winter, but you're being dugg down for not understanding what "global warming" entails.
- superandy47, on 07/03/2009, -1/+8Some sweet snowboarding to be had here too.
- ldkronos, on 07/03/2009, -1/+8You realize the concept of global warming is about more than just your local weather. It takes a bit more study than just looking at your thermometer each day. You need to look at global temperatures, and trends over time. You may be colder, but on average, the rest of the world may be warmer. Or even if it's colder everywhere, and this turns out to be the coldest year of the decade, it might be warmer than the coldest years of previous decades.
I'm not saying global warming does or doesn't exist, but what you personally have observed is irrelevant to determining whether or not it does.
PS. Insulation works just as well to keep the house cool on hot days. - estate, on 07/03/2009, -0/+6A truly beautiful part of the world. And this is just the North Island, the South is much, much prettier.
- supertom, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Hellooo new wallpaper.
- lopla, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Tongariro crossing rules, made me question reality.. as in 'how can this be real'.
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+5Because it's called GLOBAL warming.
- sergiolopes, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4Google maps view: http://bit.ly/FnF8g

- IamDexx, on 07/03/2009, -0/+4Stuff like this makes me miss home.... Very cool picture. Chur
- SuperVepr308, on 07/03/2009, -1/+4Could all the "Climate Change" crows just hush up a minute and enjoy the view? It's gorgeous.
- gritta, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Can you swim in a volcano lake, or is it too hot or acidic or something?
- gazza27, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3Apparently "Global Warming" isn't the best term that could have been picked, as it's more of a "Global Weirding", that is, more extremes in temperature, including cold. I believe what we're observing in NZ this year is the start of some very cold winters, and very warm summers, which should be a GLOBAL trend.
- bit2spam, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3sweet as..
- Stormwern, on 07/03/2009, -0/+3The Pass of Caradras
- dosher199, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2The best view I've seen was at the smaller crater lakes.
- crowbarred, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Silly me, i forgot its July 4th and no-one has a sense of humour. oh well
- crowbarred, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Time to come home innit? Got some vogels and marmite for you. Just incase
- KZWings, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Misty Mountains?
- saminfused, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I miss the North Island and those high school agriculture and geography classes to Taranaki or Taupo, love seeing the mountains from the Desert Road, nothing like it. But that said, I'm not minding being able to see the southern alps from our house :P. And the Snow at the mo is amazing. Ahh
- sublimelbc, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2I've also hiked this area. It is too beautiful...did you know this area was used as Mordor from LOTR and the two mountains were used (with computer graphics) for Mount Doom?
- Mujokan, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2You *are* tough to do it pantsless.
- xsanctom, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Was down there boarding last weekend, Saturday was amazing, proud to see this on digg :)
- inactive, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2"I'm not saying global warming does or doesn't exist..."
Okay, then I'll say it. Global warming exists. - EdThomson, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Niiiiiiiice
- supertom, on 07/03/2009, -0/+2Aww no street view?
- deema1, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1That photograph reminds me of epileptic dogs.
I love dogs.
I love dogs with epilepsy. - specialbuddy1, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1take a good look. Next year all of that snow will be gone because of Global Warming...
- IamNOTmrT, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1That's a crater lake. When there's volcanic activity, the lake has been known to overflow and spill down the side of the mountain and into the nearby river. The last lahar there was only a couple of years ago.
- danshilcock, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1New Zealand = the world in HD
- crowbarred, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2This is my home ........ STAY AWAY FROM MY HOME! ..... or i release the gollum .... don't make me. It won't be pretty.
- FHMKHN, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2thats where i went for camping during highschool.
the 8 hours of going up and down mountains (with huge backpacks) was worth the view
(there is also a crater with a massive break in the middle that looks like a vagina)
its hidden from view tho - kiwi00man, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2Here is another reason to come to New Zealand: THE BARE ESSENTIALS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-Mq9HAE62Y - dawnraid101, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2What a coincidence if off tomorrow to spend a week and a half skiing at whakapapa ( the southern side) of Mt Ruapehu which just opened last week, I might even climb to the crater, weather / snow permitting!!!
- dosher199, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Strangely, our ski seasons have been getting better. Auckland has already had temperatures of -3 celcius this year, which is as low as i can remember.
- saminfused, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Christchurch has supermarkets dontchaknow.
- Mujokan, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1I can't believe people still make this kind of argument.
- Gravey9, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2A game of hockey on that ice would be epic.
- jonoxplor, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1People used to... many years ago.
- IamNOTmrT, on 07/03/2009, -1/+2That isn't ice. You Canadians have such one track minds
- Gravey9, on 07/03/2009, -0/+1Really what is it? I honestly thought it was ice.
- dawnraid101, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1You forgot July 4 has no significance outside of the US.
- cjh24, on 07/08/2009, -0/+1Actually, they've been pretty low for the last 3 years. (Summer averages).
- tradderjohn, on 07/04/2009, -0/+15 days to Queenstown skiing
