- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -22/+70Eh, I think I will read this article later...........
- shikaga, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26The reason is that it is always the people who read digg that are procrastinating. Including me. I should be revising.
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25Whats even funnier is how everyone who makes a "This comment has been done before comment" assumes that everyone else like them has nothing better to do than read every friggin article on digg.
- fallscrape, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11hmm, well I liked the article - I've seen plenty of articles on procrastination in the last few weeks but that's the first I've read. It was quite well written and nails down the reasons why I procrastinate which I hadn't noticed in myself - so Digg++
Now if I could get back to coding without constantly thinking about lunch... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9One thing I can't figure out is that why it never occured to me to seek out books on procrastination before. There are a lot of good ones out there. Procrastination is a common problem that has been studied and there are a variety of effective ways of dealing with it.
I recommend "Overcoming Procrastination" by Albert Ellis and literally the same title by Windy Dryden - bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Regardless of peoples feelings on procrastination (i.e. those saying "get off your ass"), it really is difficult for me to actually get out and do something, I do put things off saying another time will be better, and it can go on for extended periods of time. Its an actual problem for me, people have it to varying degrees. Any help is welcome in my book.
- boxomojo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9it's kind of ironic because most people reading this article, and others on digg, are reading it to avoid doing what they should be doing. isn't that what digg is all about?
- ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13Chill out Delphion.
- crapbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6digg is an important part of my procrastination process. (just in case you missed it, the unhealthy part that is)
- Haiyadragon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Digg, Slashdot, Gamespot, IMDB, Rottentomatoes, forums.
I'm doing it right now. I'm surprised my boss hasn't kicked my ass yet. I've been doing this forever. - Synoptic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Isn't it about time we added "procrastination" as a Digg category?
- lashray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3IMHO people confuse procrastination with prioritization. When priorities aren't clear, a lot of energy is consumed in deciding what to do and in the end maybe doing nothing. Deciding what is important enough to do immediately reflects what a person values. Being able to take decisive action is what divides doers and thinking-about-doers.
- enzomedici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use 80/20 thinking. Roughly 20% of your actions will lead to 80% of desired results, so the other 80% of the time you can relax, procrastinate or stare at the TV. The trick is to know which actions to ignore.
Using 80/20 thinking, you should always procrastinate on potential action that won't produce your desired outcome. Most of the things you do in your daily life are a waste of time. - Haiyadragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This guy knows everything about me.
I'm the worst kind. - eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9Is it ironic that its 4 am, I have a paper due in 4 hours, I'm barley started, and I'm reading digg?
- vetipc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is actually the first article I've read on this topic, and I found it interesting. And I must say that I read digg every day. I am sure there are still many people here who haven't heard about procrastination before, like me. So bringing up frequently this topic is not entirely meaningless.
- CannonBallGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Considering I just spent the time to read that and then post this comment, considering I have 3 hours of exams on Monday and have even looked at my books, I'd have to say I truly am a procrastinator.
- RIPtechtv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am the king of Procrastination. Like when I had to buy my vest for graduation I had to have the money in by 12:00 PM that day or I would not have been able to walk. I had the money for weeks but I decided to hold off tell about 10 minutes before (The people in the office are the type of people at 12:00 PM will close the window they are old and evil) .
- imiJnation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg category..? I thought procrastination was a Digg effect.
- Serendipity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've read it and I think this article was great because it gave me some new ideas on working large projects. Thanks!
- vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The hokies come into play because my ID is VA Tech Tigger. I love my school......
- dutter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Some people are just not built for action, says Timothy A. Pychyl, professor of psychology at Ottawa's Carleton University, where he runs the Procrastination Research Group."
I wonder how many group members are late for meetings... - Agret, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3" really briing the editorial quality of this site down."
I think you must have digg confused with Slashdot as digg doesn't have editors. - vatechtigger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4gobble gobble. :)
- jamelt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Where do the hokies come into play, but anyways GO HOKIES!!!

- scruffmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm a graduate PhD student. Graduate students are by definition procrastinators. Us poor souls.

- ripcrd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Too busy slackin' to read it.
- embraboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think it was Ellen Degeneres that said: "Procrastination is the future, but don't put it off, procrastinate today!"
- 3lite, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6yeah, some weeks ago I didn't know what "procrastination" means (english not being my mother language), now I'm already fed up with it.
Seems that a lot of technologically inclined people are suffering from procrastination. - tjordan90, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Hmm
- raid517, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Man it is stuff like this that get's repeated over and over again on the digg front page that really briing the editorial quality of this site down.
- imnewtryme, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4GO HOKIES!
- BangoSkank, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I will read this later.
- usermac, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Wow, it really gives a possible solution to procrastination too - near the end ;)
- Haiyadragon, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Maybe you just don't understand. In fact I'm absolutely certain you don't. God I hate dumb people.
- Haiyadragon, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I know exactly how you feel right now. It would feel so good to just say ***** it, but there's no way tot do that.
- dnder, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3*****!! People just want to make themselves believe that they got some severe psychological disorder. Why do people always wanna be the victims.
- TheSource, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5Books? So people are going to procrastinate doing the work they should be doing in order to find books on how to "beat" procrastination?
How about not putting ***** off till the last minute. I think that would effectively solve any problems with procrastination... - aplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -22/+14After the last 8 procrastination articles, I think this joke is finally getting old.
- databasecowboy, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1Ode on Indolence
by John Keats
One morn before me were three figures seen,
I With bowed necks, and joined hands, side-faced;
And one behind the other stepp'd serene,
In placid sandals, and in white robes graced;
They pass'd, like figures on a marble urn,
When shifted round to see the other side;
They came again; as when the urn once more
Is shifted round, the first seen shades return;
And they were strange to me, as may betide
With vases, to one deep in Phidian lore.
How is it, Shadows! that I knew ye not?
How came ye muffled in so hush a masque?
Was it a silent deep-disguised plot
To steal away, and leave without a task
My idle days? Ripe was the drowsy hour;
The blissful cloud of summer-indolence
Benumb'd my eyes; my pulse grew less and less;
Pain had no sting, and pleasure's wreath no flower:
O, why did ye not melt, and leave my sense
Unhaunted quite of all but---nothingness?
A third time came they by;---alas! wherefore?
My sleep had been embroider'd with dim dreams;
My soul had been a lawn besprinkled o'er
With flowers, and stirring shades, and baffled beams:
The morn was clouded, but no shower fell,
Tho' in her lids hung the sweet tears of May;
The open casement press'd a new-leav'd vine,
Let in the budding warmth and throstle's lay;
O Shadows! 'twas a time to bid farewell!
Upon your skirts had fallen no tears of mine.
A third time pass'd they by, and, passing, turn'd
Each one the face a moment whiles to me;
Then faded, and to follow them I burn'd
And ached for wings, because I knew the three;
The first was a fair maid, and Love her name;
The second was Ambition, pale of cheek,
And ever watchful with fatigued eye;
The last, whom I love more, the more of blame
Is heap'd upon her, maiden most unmeek,---
I knew to be my demon Poesy.
They faded, and, forsooth! I wanted wings:
O folly! What is Love! and where is it?
And for that poor Ambition---it springs
From a man's little heart's short fever-fit;
For Poesy!---no,---she has not a joy,---
At least for me,---so sweet as drowsy noons,
And evenings steep'd in honied indolence;
O, for an age so shelter'd from annoy,
That I may never know how change the moons,
Or hear the voice of busy common-sense!
So, ye three Ghosts, adieu! Ye cannot raise
My head cool-bedded in the flowery grass;
For I would not be dieted with praise,
A pet-lamb in a sentimental farce!
Fade sofdy from my eyes, and be once more
In masque-like figures on the dreamy urn;
Farewell! I yet have visions for the night,
And for the day faint visions there is store;
Vanish, ye Phantoms! from my idle spright,
Into the clouds, and never more return! - fpsjeff, on 10/12/2007, -28/+15You are /so/ clever...
- dnder, on 10/12/2007, -19/+6Judging by the digg on comments, Digg users must have short term memory loss. It's been done to death already.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+12I really hate it when I make some corny joke and I discover that every one else in the world has already made it, twice. The "I'll procrastinate dealing with procrastination" theme has been done to death in similar threads and you will see this sophmoric joke played to death on almost every book review on Amazon having to do with procrastination.
- Delphion, on 10/12/2007, -28/+10jesus ***** christ, enough with these ***** "procrastination" articles.
next time i post something i'l just put "procrastionation" in it so it automatically gets dugg.
*****.
