On Thursdays we solve the energy crisis, and Fridays are reserved for XKCD. - ZeoFateX, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14Very cool!
- hantata, on 11/10/2008, -0/+14Good news. Lets hope it's success isn't limited to lab dishes...
- jeevesatvic, on 11/10/2008, -1/+15@insaincain02. If this doesn't reach the frontpage, you would always try resubmitting as:
OBAMA CURES AIDS (by possibly inspiring scientists) - inactive, on 11/10/2008, -1/+10If McCain cured AIDS, it would be burried :(
- jeevesatvic, on 11/10/2008, -1/+9If McCain cured AIDS diggers wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
It would be like telling a stauch advocate of both Organic food and Animal Rights that their meat can now be grown in a lab.
I have such a friend and I eagrely await that day. - ParanoydAndroid, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7There are some key differences though:
1.) AIDS is contagious, and so can pose a greater risk from an epidemic standpoint.
2.) I'm not sure of the numbers, but given that AIDS is incredibly prevalent in most of Africa (exceeding 50% infection rate in some localized instances), I think there's more world-wide AIDS sufferers.
Of course, funding should be spent on both anyway.
Last, gays do not have a powerful lobby - why else do you think DOMA got passed, and prop 8 recently as well? What about the huge number of states that have now explictly banned gay marriage in their constitutions? Evangelicals are an infinitely more powerful lobby than LGBT organizations. - Culero, on 11/10/2008, -0/+7*pictures HIV with thick rimmed glasses, big nose, and mustache*
- MiserableTruth, on 11/10/2008, -1/+7I wonder how long it will take before diggers stop relating every story to Obama?
Having said that, it does give me slightly more hope that a president such as Obama will support research like this more than our incumbent president did with his 8 years in office. Obama won't have to combat any conservative concerns with research like this, but hopefully he doesn't have a soft spot for animal testing. I'm not an advocate, nor participant of animal cruelty, but if a couple monkeys have to die to save 33 million humans currently infected with HIV/AIDS, then so be it I say. - Kiljoy001, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5What's God have to do with medical research ?
- spiderwing, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Gotta get my Yahtzee fix every week.
- ChromeGhost, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5Don't forget curing cancer and creating 99% efficient solar cells
- addiktion, on 11/10/2008, -0/+5I want to believe.. I mean honestly I really do!
- Pout, on 11/10/2008, -0/+3Do you not think Catch is the wrong word to use in the title? Slightly misleading.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2"What's God have to do with medical research ?"
Absolutely nothing. God has nothing to do with ANY form of science - SilverBlade2k, on 11/10/2008, -0/+2I'll mark this down as 'vapor-cure' until it actually becomes a reality.
- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -2/+3Erm....
...you forgot about the lolcats/cute animal pics..! - vivioke, on 11/28/2008, -0/+1thanks for your information : http://melilea-jakarta.blogspot.com/2008/10/penyeb ...
- PsychoBrat, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1Ditto. It was nice that the description cleared it up, but until then I got the exact opposite message of that intended.
- grimoren189, on 11/11/2008, -0/+1the title is somewhat misleading.
- fx666, on 11/12/2008, -0/+1It was a joke. Not everyone has a sense of humor.

- inactive, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1"I wonder how long it will take before diggers stop relating every story to Obama?"
8 years, cause you know he'll be re-elected - tflowholdings, on 11/10/2008, -0/+1YES!!! GOODBYE CONDOMS!
- fx666, on 11/12/2008, -1/+1This is what statistics shows -- the number of cancer patients worldwide exceeds the number of AIDS patients by the factor of 3, but the money spent on AIDS research exceeds the money spent on cancer research by the factor of 10.
"Last, gays do not have a powerful lobby - why else do you think DOMA got passed, and prop 8 recently as well? What about the huge number of states that have now explictly banned gay marriage in their constitutions?"
This is a different kind of lobbyists who do not donate money to political campaigns of the politicians who decide how much money to spend on AIDS research. Where do you think politicians like Barnie Frank get their money from? Evangelicals finance campaigns of the politicians who are opposed to gay marriage, but they do not oppose to spending excessive amounts of money on AIDS research. - shady8x, on 11/11/2008, -1/+1Sorry, you (ChayesFSS) can't be cured from that one... but maybe aids can be cured...
- ChayesFSS, on 11/10/2008, -5/+2I'll keep my hopes up that this will help the fight against gay fever
- fx666, on 11/10/2008, -5/+2There were "promising results" before but there is still no cure. Some say that "God is punishing homosexuals" but I say it is unfair to spend so much money on AIDS research and so little on cancer research considering the fact that the number of cancer patients far outweighs the number of AIDS patients. If God punishes someone, that would be cancer patients. Unfortunately, homosexuals have a very powerful lobby, but cancer sufferers have no one on their side. My ex-girlfriend almost died because of brain cancer, so I might be a little biased, but the numbers speak for themselves.
- Soundwave22, on 11/10/2008, -7/+1I knew the T-Virus was real!
Might wanna start stocking shotguns and ammo!
