- JayFyve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I heard an interview on CBC (Quirks and Quarks)about this years ago!
- evasivejay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0baaaaahahahahahaha shoot me.
- Filch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The spider-goat has been around for a long time. There's so many possibilities for this stuff
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0finally we have a way to increase the sex appeal of dying in war!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0my science teacher mentioned it to me last year and you'd think someone would of dugg this, but i guess not; so here it is....
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, great, now we have soldiers with bullet wounds that don't even have the bullet inside. NOW why will anyone joint the army?
- mad23dog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The possibilities for these kind of things are very interesting. It'd be nice to not have a bullet penetrate your skin, but you would come out with a good bruise and some broken ribs...
- bcdynamic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can just imagine our nation's soldiers wearing silk on the battlefield.
- 4z4z3l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0spiderman = happy
- monolith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the silk made it possible to pull the arrows out. The arrow still penetrated but the silk didn't break and thus the arrow could be more easily pulled out. Reduced the depth of the puncture as well. You sill got a hole in you though.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thnx, but ur comment is a dupe
- dotpage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0really old story...
- mason.parker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I seem to remember the silk also kept the wound cleaner. I'd back that up with facts but everyone knows how to google.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0would be good for war.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoops, I meant "join." Freudian slip?
Anyway, I believe silk was used in warfare a long time ago. It kept the arrows from penetrating your body. - CatSoup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So, if I may jump ahead, should I expect to see spiders hangin' around spinning bullet proof webs in the corners of my room? Remember the killer bee experiment - look where that led us.
- ciurana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This story is a couple of years old; interesting, but if you've been following it (or reading slashdot.org or plastic.com) this has been published and discussed to death.
How about more timely information in the future?
Cheers,
E - BETA7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ive seen this on discovery chanel a long time ago so it isnt all that good news btw search up firepaste on google you'll be amazed with the inventions that guys coming up and heres something i just remembered lol one of the key ingredients in the fireproof paste believe it or not is Coke
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did a report on this a few years back in school. Reads like old news.
- snapcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Really old news.
- Kman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It won't be long before somebody gets a sheet of this material and makes a "Bulletproof Ipod Case v2."
If this becomes commercially available, it would probably be very expensive so I would like to just buy underware made out of this so that in the event somebody shot my balls, I might stand a chance. Plus, c'mon, silk boxers! - kubedawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"BioSteel Goats" named Webster and Peter, the first goats confirmed to carry a single spider silk gene.
this is incredible!
i wonder if the goats themselves can be shot... - garretble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was in the National Geographic in early 2003, but it's still interesting nonetheless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"'would be good for war'
Except it was invented in Canada."
I don't think it matters at all what country it was invented it. - millmaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey infra172
beacuse it was invented in canada it will be used for our soldiers when they go clean up after americans like we are doing now in afghanastan, were the peacekeepers remember, not war mongers!
typical ignorant american probably still think edison invented the lightbulb all on his own! - infra172, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"would be good for war"
Except it was invented in Canada. - Killasta43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0millmaster, why did you take offense to his statement? Stay on topic. It is not a bad thing to not get involved in wars. You got ffended as if it were.
- pillfred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Chill' already. Anyhow silk boxers ride to easy.
- Killasta43, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0offended^ *sigh* We really need an edit feature here.
- Shadowe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""So, if I may jump ahead, should I expect to see spiders hangin' around spinning bullet proof webs in the corners of my room? Remember the killer bee experiment - look where that led us.""
Catsoup, it's fairly easy to derive from your comment that you didn't even read the article. The article is actually about Goats not spiders.
Shadowe - mackoid101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SO OLD!
- thefist_of_funk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Goat + spider =
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Attack of the Bloodsucking Spider Goats!
Seriously though, this talk of Edison stealing inventions made me think back to Sunday's Simpsons episode with Mr. Bell telling the other bloke claiming to have invented the telephone "whose name is on the patent, bitch?" I laughed so hard at that. - kejistan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wait... Edison didn't invent the lightbulb on his own? But he was an American, and we invented everything...
Anyways, I think that this whole thing would be much more useful in construction, rather than in war. While it is bulletproof as many have already said, you would end up with a nasty bruise. While in construction, its strength would help make lighter stronger, um.. well, things... - monolith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If they get the yield up it'll be used in LOTS and LOTS of crap. Hell it'll be squeezed sandwiched between sheets of epoxy for lighter stronger aircraft... scaled composites are you listening?
- RabidFurby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How about that...
- Doomhammer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0O_o
- Kman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0lol @ lollerskates: Freudian slip indeed =)
Now the gays will be able to blend in more easily with the rest of the army. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0umm i micheal this is genius and yes i do know u and yes i know u go to STM ive said to much and just to piss u off 24 biatch
- floejoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0

What is Digg?
