- Scaryclouds, on 10/11/2008, -0/+20I'm going on record, as far as 2D panel lighting technology goes, OLED is the end game. I don't see how it can be improved upon: Direct lightning means brighter displays, truer colors, including true black, highly power efficient, flexible, extremely thin, eventually extremely long lasting, and eventually OLEDs will be dirt cheap to produce.
Honestly how is any other technology going to beat that? I just don't see how it would be possible. - Colt4cm, on 10/11/2008, -1/+18I should be watching my oled TV sometime in the next 30 years, oh boy!
- benitojuarez, on 10/11/2008, -1/+15Refills are a bargain at $4,999.99 each, And their convienient anti refill eeprom chip will help you upgrade your home and pc by exploding when detecting an unauthorized refill!
- AndrewDB, on 10/11/2008, -0/+13I'm sensing some seriously cool billboard applications for an OLED printer.
- Culyt, on 10/11/2008, -0/+13There are plasma lights, they output enough light in a small led sized bulb to act as a street light and get twice the efficiency as a LED light (70lumens per watt for led, 140 for plasma, 15 for incandescent, 50-80 for CFL). I don't know if they can be scaled down for home usage or not. They last 20,000 hours (I think LEDs win at around 50,000). They also output light similar to sunlight.

There are also nanocrystal coated LEDs that get 300 lumens per watt:

☢ - johndi, on 10/11/2008, -0/+11That's what they said about electroluminescent lighting in the 50s. They work great for some things and are still around. I hope it's different this time. Anyways here is the direct link.

- divinediva, on 10/11/2008, -1/+7Nice home lighting
- Alias1431, on 10/11/2008, -0/+5Go-karts.
- Stuffburger, on 10/11/2008, -1/+5Hard light holograms that use no energy, maybe.
- CanadaKyle, on 10/11/2008, -0/+4This is going to be awesome!
- connieLingus, on 10/11/2008, -1/+3just what the world needs as it plunges into economic darkness.
- lookadeez, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2sounds waaaaay cool! I'm into it!

- drgruney, on 10/12/2008, -0/+2Is that where Master Chief shows up at your door to read you a telegram?
- Buckwyld, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Amazing. I have seen some OLED screens and they are just amazing.
- RipleyIsDead, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2WALLPAPER!
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2I don't know how any other technology can beat direct lightning.
- linksus, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2There was a Digg article with the same picture about a year ago about this.
This isnt new. Maybe they just need more funding? - hfswagon, on 10/11/2008, -0/+2Here are some of the machines that print OLED. I'm not sure if these are the ones GE is using but this company invented the technology:
http://litrex.com/ - jasonh1234, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1What's cooler? 3D Printing or OLED printing?
Call me when teleporters and matter replicators are invented. - gemlarin, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1I know it is just a prototype, but it appears from the picture that quite a few panels are malfunctioning (dead areas). Is this something I would have to worry about in my $4,999 OLED blinds?
- FLarsen, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1That's some great stuff there.
I like the effect when it's turned on. First starting to glow blue and then bright white. - Tichondrius74, on 10/11/2008, -0/+1Dugg.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1SCIENCE!
- John213, on 10/13/2008, -0/+1for crying out loud grow some back bone. The human race has been through worse situations than a downtown in the economy.
- jasonh1234, on 10/14/2008, -0/+1Like a giant Geisha eating in futuristic LA? or Immigration Ads on blimps for the Offworld Colonies?
- expert01, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1And I'll be browsing diggspace on my OLED monitor, next to my MemJet printer, on my super fast computer (thanks to the magnetic RAM) that has tons of space on the holographic hard drive.
- burjzyntski, on 10/11/2008, -0/+0yeah but the cartidges cost a fortune..
- AikoMiko, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1Flaming Lips don't trip. They are straight edge. The fans however...
I love the lips. - vsaint, on 10/11/2008, -2/+2I miss oled printers, where you tear the sides off of the sheets and make birthday banners in print shop. I like skulls.
- spaceman84, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1Buried for "regime change".
- SirFink, on 10/13/2008, -0/+0Didn't Sony do this two years ago?
- zerton, on 10/11/2008, -1/+1So cool. but a little Ray Bradbury
- inactive, on 10/11/2008, -1/+0So in the future we can go onto wal-marts website and print out our new TV? Freakin Sweet!
- platinumrod, on 10/11/2008, -6/+4If GE is still in business by 2010.............
- patho, on 10/11/2008, -3/+1sounds like a recipe for a house fire.
